      Same. It's tiring seeing the opposite side throwing the argument on how other said it gets good after a set amount of hours trying to defend him. I like him, but if he does want to be a respectable reviewer, he needs to get professional and stop comparing games to one he refused to play more to give an actual opinion and not be half-assed. Just because this one is of the same source, doesn't mean he can without playing more of the main game. People need to think logically for once and stop defending him cause they think they will be his best friend. Again, doesn't make him a bad person in the slightest, but did lose respect to him as a reviewer a tad bit. I haven't played either version, so people can put down their idiotic comments of me being a fanboy towards Xenoblade 2.

Well, one thing is for sure still not subbing back and leaving a dislike for the same uniformed "button mashing" non-review. Again, if you don't want to review stuff, don't. Well, I guess that XC2 non-reviewXreview worked out for him in the end. It got views. I judt don't know if it's worth losing subscribers. Lost credibility then, still do now. Well, at least 8-bit Eric had the decency to not dip his hands on the prequel because... oh boy! you guys make an "amazing" XC2 reviewing tandem.

      @@amolsol I don't think he's a professional reviewer, just a dude giving his opinion. You need to beat the game for a solid review, but you only need so many hours for a solid opinion. He shouldn't have to beat a game to share his in a video. Not defending HIM, defending the idea of sharing your honest thoughts without having to be "professional". Haven't played any Xenoblade so his opinion might not do the game Justice, but if it's how he feels he doesn't owe anyone anything.

      @@MattMatrixJohnson At this point, he is growing his channel and making money off the videos in different ways, he is becoming a professional at what he does. He doesn't need to be in a company to be one. Thing is, he is still reviewing games and showcasing them to an audience. Do not excuse him. He still keeps saying bad things of a game he didn't play much of and comparing. He shouldn't do that at all. Again, and have already said it many times, he doesn't need to love the game or play it completely, only long enough to make his opinion actually valid. Cause he has played long RPGs before, the length isn't the problem at all. Other reviewers that hate the game have played it a better length, too. He should have just leave it that he does not want to review the game, but always making a joke on different videos. Truly becoming annoying. He is still a reviewer, he is making money off this since he even says is his job now, so he better act serious upon it. Cause many others do, regardless of working for a review company or not. Like it or not, Torna is much more approachable and faster paced than Xenoblade 2.
    I love both games, though I like the base game considerably more. I actually like the slow build. It allows for great character moments and it helps you get attached to the story. However, I greatly appreciate what Torna did by expanding the lore though. Or, not expanding, just giving you the chance to play through everything that led up to Xenoblade 2. And the nuanced combat system is really great as well.
    Thanks for giving Torna a chance, glad it was more up your alley. And sorry Xenoblade 2 wasn't fast enough for you. I can understand that, though I cannot fathom myself feeling that way about it.
    Also, I absolutely adore the English dub in both games. No joke. I tried playing it with Japanese audio, but it felt so wrong. I just love how wacky and over-the-top it is, while at the same time being full of heart. Nia, Morag, and Pyra/Mythra were my favorite voices in the base game, and Lora, Addam, and Mythra were great in Torna, in my opinion.

They wanted to make it easier for newcomers because in the last xenoblade games many players dropped the game because there where overwhelmed by the battle system. Xenoblade 2 is certainly not a game for everyone, but I think people who say the game sucks are people who shouldn't be playing JRPGs in the first place. If you don't like stories, don't like the battle system, go play another game. This game is not for you. For the demographic Xenoblade 2 does target, it does its job as a JRPG very well, and I know most JRPG fans really enjoyed the game. Most RPGs start real slow and Xenoblade 1 was just as guilty on that front, yet you hear nobody complain about that game's battle system. If anything, Xenoblade 1's battle system is very clunky and outdated, yet everyone still thinks it's a masterpiece. In most RPGs, you can't do more than a few things during battle when you start off. The game rewards you greatly for grinding and exploring and makes the combat way more fun and smooth when you put in the efford to do that. If you don't like doing that, then the game is not for you. Do I think the game could have started off faster? Yes, definitely, and Torna Golden Country proves as much. I personally like both battle systems but I agree TGC starts off much faster and feels more refined. There is room for improvement, but from my subjective standpoint, Xenoblade 2 is a good game with a few flaws.

      It's, like, the exact same pacing. It's just proportional to the overall playtime. It took 10 hours to get to the main part of the combat in xc2, a 100 hour game, so it takes 4 hours to get the the main part of torna, a 40 hour game. I've seen your replies to a lot of different comments, and it seems more and more like you're just a fanboy of his who is just regurgitating his opinion without making your own. XC2 was my goty 2017, but that doesn't mean I don't recognize that the voice actor for Rex was rather annoying and that there were too many customization options for me to be willing to take advantage of them. With Torna, the game's quick pace is at the detriment of the story, character building, and world building. You really have not said anything of substance in almost any of your comments, it's almost pathetic. Make your own opinions and compare them with other peoples opinions, don't just latch on to someone else's thoughts and say that they're your own without backing them up at all.

      @jesus barrera the pacing in this game was due to complaints from Xenoblade X of having to many systems thrown at once. So in this game, they use ch 1 for introducing basic auto attacks and arts. Ch 2 they introduce blade combos along with coordinating with ai along with blade switching. Ch 3 they introduce driver combos and chain attacks. And special mechanics are added throughout the game. Xenoblade X condensed it into less chapters but a lot of casuals felt lost and overwhelmed.

Everyone kept telling him to play more and it gets good but if he’s not even feeling it in the slightest after 20 hours then what’s the point? JRPGS are long games I would know myself, I’v played many and it does take time to hit that peak but from my knowledge all of my favorites I can for sure say I was into them within 20+ hours. So for him to say in all that time he didn’t like it at all? Let him be.

    • @Nuvendil
      @Nuvendil Před 5 lety +18

      @@aleph7056 do you mean how can you not auto your way through the game? Simple, the game continuously ramps up challenge over the course of the game and a ton of bosses, field bosses, and even just normal enemies have extremely dangerous arts, unique abilities that can be very problematic, and when they reach their rage state they will absolutely destroy you if you aren't careful. Using arts wisely, setting up special combos quickly, using those special combos to seal enemy abilities, and reaching a Full Burst chain attack quickly become very important. The game gives you time to learn all of this in a safer environment before dumping all of this on you. And in the base game there are also no fixed roles. Each character can be any class or blend of classes and that also effects how you play.
      All of this is in Torna, but in a different way. The best way to look at it is that Torna is more reactionary, it's about making snap decisions. The base game is about strategizing ahead, it requires more forethought. Both have their charms but in NEITHER game can you auto attack your way to victory for much of the game. Torna, however, is much shorter - around one third the time needed to beat the base game - and thus is forced to teach faster.

    Wow, we are the complete opposite when it comes to the characters. I loved all the characters in the base game so much, which is why this is the only game that made me cry at the end and legit start shaking at the final cutscenes. While In Torna I didn't like the characters as much because I was so used to my fav's

      It's incredible until you realize your blade is not being honest with you, still cares deeply for her past driver, and wants to die. The game's story could have been so much better. Pyra and Mythra deserved a much better ending that that!! Much better! It pisses me off how we can't decide what ending we want ourselves and are shackled to the game's auto-plot!

    I like the overall improvements in Torna for the most part. It's mostly what is missing that I dislike. I feel like combat is a struggle unless I'm stronger than the enemy and that is precisely for one reason. The Attacker/Healer/Tank mechanic is gone. Haze is the only healer and the AI constantly switches the vanguard or swaps blades and you have no way of controlling it. If you want a healer you are forced to control Haze. A couple people have a Art with draw aggro but that's it. There is no dedicated Tank. I was forced to grind on weak enemies and spam all the sidequests asap so I wouldn't wipe out everytime on the bosses because of it. It's these two things that ruined Torna's combat for me.

    The criticisms of the base game are fair, Torna is a lot better at introducing its combat system quickly.
    However even with XC2’s slow introduction once the game kicks off around Chapter 3 it becomes one of the most rewarding game play experiences I’ve had on the Switch. Also having the experience of the base game makes Torna hit like a truck.

    I felt the same way @BeatEmUps did, though I actually played the game for 100 hours despite not really enjoying it.
    What I find funny about this video though is, 90% of what was discussed about what made the combat interesting is just late-game combat from the original base game. So, when people said "it gets good 40 hours in", yeah, what you get in Torna is mostly what you got when you put the time into the base game.
    I'm probably going to avoid Torna myself though. I didn't enjoy the base game after 100 hours, so it's pretty hard for me to believe that I would enjoy Torna that much more.

      @@lpsoldin3162What makes Xenoblade amazing Is the story, I think If the person cant enjoy the story It Is better playing another game. I played 60 hours of Xenoblade 2 and I love It, there are some things I dont like about the gameplay, like how the game makes you use Field Skills to keep moving on in the Story, or some Bosses at the end that are a few overleveld and I had to grind. It Is not like If I dont like the gameplay, I like walking in the titans, feel the atmosphere, fighting against some enemies, kill the Unique enemies and etc, but what really make me love this game is its story, Zelda Botw is a game I love because of its gameplay. Xenoblade makes the mistake of forcing you to battle countless enemies to get XP or taking away the immersion with the game by forcing you to use field skills when it's a game wanting to tell a story, but I think Xenoblade 3 fixed that, It Is what people say, I havent played but I hope It Is true.
      Next time I'll play Ng+ and most of my issues will be gone I think, I will can enjoy the story while I can enjoy the world too and only fight when I want, Although I will be overleveld in most of the Titans, If I could manipulate my levels...

    When designing a game, its common to try to make the first level the best, most interesting level that you can because it sets the player's expectation for the rest of the game (some games like metroidvanias invert this to surprise the player later). But when an rpg starts out as tedious, uninteresting, limited, and unfair, it really doesnt make you want to keep playing.

    • @randomd00d19

      That's always has been a major problem with jrpgs and mmorpgs.
      You get few skills and systems. And after at least a dozen hours, THEN they dump the rest of the gameplay loop on you.
      If you ain't into the story they are presenting, then it's gonna be a bad time.

  • @paetolus
    @paetolus Před 5 lety +2

    A lot of the combat stuff gets added to the base game as you play through it, the dlc assumes you've already played it and introduces it way early, and it is much shorter so they have to. Not really disagreeing, but it is a pacing problem for sure, the combat system was already there though, only new mechanic is playing as blades.

    Thanks for giving the expansion a second go. The slow beginning of the base game has been what I tell people who want to play to watch out for. The game is pretty slow for 20 hours, but the game has hundreds of hours of content so they wanted to take their time. Combat definitely is very complex that even after a couple hundred hours you still learn something new.

    I've said this already in his last video but I'll say it again.
    To say, "it gets better at ____" when you have been playing for 15 hours is not a good argument. Especially for players who like to/only play in small sessions or play for quick immediate fun. If a game is not to your liking at 15 hours in then it is clearly not a game for you. Many people aren't going to be spending hours on end on their console, in fact a large group of people don't, and so 15+ hours is a long time to "wait until chapter 5". This argument does not apply to every context.
    I mean just imagine that in a different context. "You don't like the book? But that's just the first book. The third book in the series and onwards is when it really get better." You know what your response would be right? If you didn't like it first hand, why on earth would you push yourself through something you know you will dislike just to get to a point where you may or may not like it?
    And really, by the time he had gotten to the point people were so adamant on him getting to, he wouldn't have been so enthusiastic about the game, which would have ultimately negatively affected his enjoyment and thus lead to a negative review on the game as a whole (something fans in the comments clearly do not want).

      It's funny. I agree with this statement even though when I first started playing the game, I was meh with it. Really the only reason I continued was because I just sank $60 into it, and I'm not rich. I kept playing it hoping I would get into more as the plot continued, and by the end, I loved it. If you're the kinda person who hates slow starts to games, this is a horrible game for you and I wouldn't recommend it unless the concept sounds interesting to you. I dont blame people who say they hated it for that reason.
