    I have had a Milwaukee 3/4 hp corded router for 15-20 years now. It's a beast of a router I use in my shop. I've been taking a small craftsman corded router on my truck but it died the other day and I just found this video so I'll be adding to my M18 FUEL collection. Thanks for the video.

    Hey Vince, Brandon here from Maryland. Love your videos! I took the plunge and quit my sales management job a few months ago after a random opportunity to power wash a very large home. The owner was so impressed he hired me to manage 3 very large local residential properties as they travel constantly and have homes all over the world. I’ve always done my own work around my own large home and my father was a contractor and built 150+ homes when I was a kid. Anyway, business has taken off and in the past 3 months have done everything from building custom closets to right now redoing 2 large carved mahogany doors to marine standards and products. I randomly bought a Milwaukee M12 drill/driver set before getting into the business full-time honestly because I was sick of borrowing my step-father’s old, big DeWalt every time I needed a drill. I loved the drill so much from day 1, I started learning more and more about Milwaukee. For example, many of my clients are huge supporters of Israel and Israeli relations. The packout system I just got the other day happens to be made in Israel and is amazing. Before that I had 2 of the same Husky bags you have in your tool bag video and it was honestly a pain having to dig through stuff, especially unpacking and packing every day during a recent renovation I did with many subs in and out. I have one “small” issue with the packout system that may or may not be a concern to some people. The handle for the main box does not go fully down, making it not fit in the trunk of my car. My truck is in the shop and I’ve been taking my Audi S5 to jobs. The packout is amazing as I can fold the rear seats, roll the packout to the car, take 2 boxes off at a time and put it back together at the job site. However, the handle on the base unit does not fully collapse to the same height as the box as for example the Husky bag does. This prevents my trunk lid from closing. I have to sit the base box in the passenger seat and that is where I have all of my heavy tools. Other than that and having to collapse the handle to open a box, I love it. Oh, and the latches not quite clearing enough to open multiple boxes without disassembling the system. It’s doable but the latches are clearly not meant to do it as their regular organizers of theirs I have

    • @tothelimit1042
      @tothelimit1042 Před 4 lety

      do. But, once I get my truck back, these really won’t be concerns. I met with the Milwaukee rep after loving the drill so much and deciding to go all wireless and bought the M12 hardshell heated jacket, a bunch of Milwaukee gloves, 6 M12 batteries (2 compact and rest largest), the 14” Redstick digital level (which is unbelievable. I just used it for a handicap ramp to measure exact angle and also for some flagstone mortar repair), 3” cutoff tool, M12 Rocket Tower Light, M18 Fuel chainsaw, M12 soldering iron, M18 7-1/4” circular saw, 360 degree pocket level, M18 Fuel Super Sawzall, M18 finish nailer 15ga, M18/M12 Rapid Charger (one at each client’s house), 4 M18 batteries in each size, M18 4-1/2” Grinder, M18 random orbit sander, M18 wet/dry vac (my new favorite tool), M18/M12 jobsite speaker (so pissed it doesn’t charge batteries but sound is great!), right angle adapter, complete shockwave drivers and drill bits, hardhats, safety goggles and sunglasses, knives, 3 Ticks, and some other stuff I’m sure I haven’t logged yet lol. So yeah, safe to say I’m a full-blown Milwaukee guy now. My buddy just dropped like $50k on Festool products, so we are looking forward to a comparison. Oh, and I got the M18 leaf blower the other day and I used to hate doing leaves. One thing I gladly subbed out. Now I can’t put the thing down. One home I manage is wooded and every day I do a quick blow to stay on top of the leaves when I get there. It even blew piles of soaking wet leaves the other day so well I was in shock while using it. Another client has another landscaper who happened to come same day to do leaves with 6 guys with gas backpack blowers and a truck with a huge vacuum hose. I got out the M18 blower, popped a 12Ah battery on it, and decided to compare it with the gas. The landscapers went from laughing to speechless real quick. Anyway, I know this is extremely long, but just wanted to say hi and thanks for the videos and enabling my Milwaukee purchases. Speaking of which, my latest project is refinishing mahogany doors I needed a “dremel” for to get the old gunk and stain out of the carvings. Of course I haven’t gotten the Milwaukee rotary yet and had to break out the extension cord for the first time in awhile. I forgot how annoying cords are. Anyway, picking up the Milwaukee rotary tool bright and early then starting on a 32’ Riva mahogany boat build I’m sure will need some more Milwaukee tools lol. Anyway, my only complaints with the M12 system are 1, there is no battery level indication display on some devices and 2, the batteries are a pain to get in and out compared to the M18 and other systems. That would be fine and good if it meant a rock solid fit. However, of course while hanging a $100k chandelier the other day, I had the battery pack fall right out of my drill and into the chandelier, one snap broke off. Thankfully, no damage to the chandelier. However, this is unacceptable. There is a remote chance I didn’t slam the pack in hard enough, but I’m a competitive shooter, so instinctually I bang in a magazine or battery. I’m considering an M18 drill for this reason. I’ve never wanted for power with the M12, even drilling a 3/4” hole through a brick exterior wall using a very long bit. So yeah, that’s all I have for now. Excited to try out the rotary tomorrow!

    A bought one a while back and love it. I do laminate countertops for Habitat for Humanity and got tired of fighting with the cord on my earlier trim router. A fellow worker just bought this too after seeing mine. His router holds a 1/2" flush trim bit with a 5/8" bearing to cut off most of the waste and I follow behind with the 1/2" flush trim. We often don't have reliable electrical outlets available with running an extension cord during construction. The quick bit stop is one of my favorite features.

    Enjoyed the video. My first router so it was a big help. While watching it I did notice a large amount of dust even though you were using a vacuum and you even commented about it. My tools are hooked up to my rigid shop vac and I had practically no dust. I think that back pack vac you were using was the problem. I like the idea of the mobility it provides but the suction doesn’t compare. My first choice for dust collection was the compact battery powered Milwaukee shop vac but I returned it when I saw the suction quality. Thanks again!

    I love mine. I bought it for adding soffit vents to my house. I made a template for cutting 8x16 soffit vents and on a 5.0 I was able to cut 25 new vents (about 100 feet) and only used a 1/4 charge. It was the tool for the job. I cut all 25 overhead on a ladder in less than an hour. It has its place. I wish it came with a case or bag.

    I love the Cordless tools. I'm not a production shop just a hobbyist woodworker the Cordless tools get all my jobs done and create a safer environment. I never run out of charge except on the DeWalt Cordless table saw but I have three batteries dedicated to the tool so I already have one. The only corded tools I own are a big Bosch router, a planer, jointer, and the dust vac. I'm using DeWalt and Milwaukee they're awesome! And I almost never trip my breakers which would have been an issue for me in my situation.

    Pretty bloody good, especially for a trimmer sized router. With 'Wood Machinist' as one of my 2 trades. I would do a back pass first that goes roughly 1/3 the depth of your cut and then forwards for your last pass. You will find it should be a quicker cut overall and even less strain on the trimmer, even though it did extremely well...
    I may just buy one, even though my corded one has done me proud for over 2 decades. I'm trying to switch all of my tools to cordless...

    When mine arrived I had to tighten the QR just a tad because it wouldn’t clamp properly. I did some 2.0 testing and it just pulls them too fast 💨 I thought it would because you can feel it in the shaft. They tried to boost the power without being as large as the DeWALT. It blows the Makita away as far as power but isn’t as smooth as either the Makita or the DeWALT. I like all three, but didn’t like the micro adjustment on the Makita. However I still like the Makita switch the best and it’s slimmer base but I can’t say one is the best, because there is a better use for each. I think if I would have to choose only one it would be the Milwaukee. Just a lot to say, but I’m in a hurry and still have to smash the like button lol 😂

      @Abdul Rahman Most of my battery powered tools are Makita. I love Milwaukee too though. I've lost count on how many batteries I have lol, so it's not the biggest issue, but for some things, it sure would be nice to know you can keep going without being interrupted.

    • @floobertuber
      @floobertuber Před 4 lety +3

      The cordless tool manufacturers are REALLY missing a revenue opportunity here. It should be very low effort to develop an accessory like that.

    • @roccoreid2842
      @roccoreid2842 Před 4 lety +6

      @@floobertuber I agree. I have to assume that they think it will gouge into their profits on battery sales, but I'm not convinced that it would. I still prefer no cords and so I will buy the same number of batteries as I do now to keep myself cordless. But sometimes things happen on the job or we might forget a battery, or whatever. In fact, how many people might look at a product line like Milwaukee and think, "I don't want to spend that much on batteries." Those people aren't going to be buying their batteries AND won't buy the tools either. But maybe, if there was the option to go with a cable while their one battery is charging, they might be more inclined to buy the tool. And hey, get them to buy even one tool and you're a lot closer to getting them to buy another and another. And once they're hooked, they won't care how much the batteries are, they'll just start buying those too.

    • @roccoreid2842
      @roccoreid2842 Před 4 lety +5

      @Abdul Rahman Exactly! I think we're making a case here. How about this scenario too?... You're using your miter saw, it's eating up batteries, and you're trying to do a ton of repetitive stuff and you're going to be at the saw for awhile, and there is a socket right there. Now one could say no big deal and just keep switching out batteries, but here's something that I don't see a lot of people talking about... You're in a groove and kicking butt on getting your stuff done, and then BAM!!!... battery dead. It might not seem like much, but the danger here (if maybe your other battery is charging a little further away, maybe plugged in before you realized there was a socket next to the saw), and now you have to go get the battery. You just broke your concentration and your groove. And any number of things can distract you on the way to the battery and back again. Especially if you have teammates that see you on the move and want something from you (pencil, tool, your attention, just to talk, etc. etc). Anything that takes us off of what we're immediately working on puts our productivity at risk. That sounds pretty freakin important. And if a cord can keep that from happening, that's huge.

    • @evexotics
      @evexotics Před 4 lety +2

      Definitely agree for larger tools (like the Milwaukee miter and table saws - or they're 2 gal vac for that matter). I think it would be tough to implement an elegant solution on something this small though.

    A little late to the party here, but just picked this one up recently and I must say I'm pretty floored. It certainly beats the pants off the 25 year old corded router I'm accustomed to. I agree with the notes on the 2.0ah battery though. It just doesn't have the oomph to do serious work for longer than a few moments. If I put my 8.0ah on though it really chews through the material and does so for quite some time. Definitely enough for any of the projects I've been using it on.
    Also on another note, I've seen a Mailwaukee M18 guy use the Makita cordless router with his m18 batteries. There are Mailwaukee to Makita battery adapters on Amazon and it honestly seemed to work really well, except for the extra height that it added to the unit

    I had been waiting for a router from milwaukee as I have all milwaukee tools. However I still have my older tools that I retired which include a porter cable nicad 19.2 cordless router and like with all the other makes, I made a battery adapter to be able to use my milwaukee batteries with them. No multiple batteries necessary. In fact that porter cable cordless router is more of a full size than a trim router but it is what is considered a 1 1/2 amp corded equivalent and physically the same as their corded version. Heavy, durable, powerful and it uses the same bases so I have the plunge base for it. It will use all of the accessories that the porter cable corded routers do. Of course this is from when porter cable was really porter cable and not the cheaper company they became after dewalt bought them and cheapened them. One heck of a machine and I can use my milwaukee m18 batteries with it so that has been my router until now and maybe still will be going forward. I do not do much routing anyway.

    I have the Milwaukee Trim router and love it, the only gripe I have is the crappy fence you get with it. I ended up getting the base to allow you to use it as a plunge router, and guess what it comes with a fence system that actually works and is good. I don't know why they couldn't have done this with the router itself. The stock fence attatches to the router with a single screw and has play in it.

    The purpose of the 2 wrenches is when you une this router on a cnc, you never want to tight the bit with one wrench and the red button because you risk to desalign the Z axe. Always use 2 wrenches for tightening.

    I picked one up this week to do some projects at home. I'm just getting into small project wood working and this seemed like a fairly inexpensive way to snag a router that should do everything I need it to. I won't be running it all day, so battery life isn't a huge concern for me. So far I like it, but I've only used it on a few test pieces.

    Just got a new one free with the 5.0 Ah battery kit. Question - the small pack of knobs has a washer and lock washer that aren't shown in the assembly instructions. Anyone know what they are for? This is my second one of these routers, and I love the first one. I use it in the Veritas trim router table - great combination. The dust collection is very good. I'm a woodworker - I've never has an issue with running out of battery, but my usage tend to be less demanding that way.

    I was thinking 250' didn't seem like a lot either but 95% of the time i'm doing window sills or shorter pieces like that and I have 4 or more batteries charging all the time so it's a non issue. I'd like to go back to a single platform, but I love the Makita track saw, so I started carrying those batteries and then got a few of their routers before Milwaukee came out with theirs. First world problems I guess haha.

    Hi Vince
    First, I love you channel. Really enjoy all the energy you put in each video ! I agree even a 6amp or 8amp battery could be quickly limited in runtime with such tool. And I think it is not unusual to have more than a couple of pieces to trim. An excellent option would be milwaukee offers the capability to plug this tool to wall plug, and so become a corded version (I know ... we have cord and we want to remove them .... and when we don't have it, we want some !). For some tools it could make sense for lasting longer. It sounds feasible, the channel Harrison Hobbies did it and it works on Mitter saw. So a genuine verison from Milwaukee would be great. Do you know if Milwaukee has it in mind or if there is any technical limitation for such adapter ? As Milwaukee's ambassador, maybe you can get some feedback from them or even suggest the idea !
    Keep going for all those good videos ! Thumbs up from France

      Do Milwaukee make an attachment that could clip into the battery mount which has a cord? That way, any M18 tool could become corded in an emergency.. ?

    The 6.0 and 8.0 Batteries are already advancing in Technology like the XC 3.0 Pack to the now available XC 6.0 Pack. I can't wait till they develop cells that could potentially give us an XC 10.0

    I use the button to screw down the collet by hand and then tighten it with both wrenches! The nut looks massive but the clamping thing inside the collet of my makita router is so damn short that it happend to me that my flush trim bit sliped out when i just use the button and one wrench.
    The clamp on my bigger bosh is twice as deep and completly different in shape so it needs much less force to get better clamping allthough the nut is smaller

    Hi Vince,
    Hey if you have to use the 12ah battery for this router then it will be cool if milwaukee can come out with a router table for it. Or see if you can attach it to any style router table.
    I would like to have a box then a bag for this tool.
    Also maybe milwaukee should make a compact 5.0 with 21700 cell.
    I will use this router for small trim project.
    Just my thought.
