- You know that friend of yours who loves to argue that Chicago-style pizza is not actually pizza? Well, they’re going to really hate this. But, only when it comes to the name. They, along with anyone else who tastes this, will love this refreshing combination of sweet, salty, and savory flavors. Enjoy!

Like I said in the intro.... There are 2 kinds of people..... Those that think this is crazy/stupid/wrong or some kind of joke.... and those that have tried it, and realize it's one of the most delicious things they've ever had. Which kind of person are you?
Sorry Chef John sensei I'm the first guy
You're awesome anything you make it's just delicious. My boyfriend and I enjoy all your videos. We love your sense of humor chef John.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
one of the healthiest pizza i seen 😉☺🍉🍕
None of those. I never tried this, or even imagined something like it, but I'm eager to try it: looks delicious.
Thank you for always encouraging us to go out of our cooking and eating comfort zones to try something new like this, Chef John!
CZcams: Watermelon pizza!
Me: Wtf, no.
CZcams: But it's chef john
Me: You sun of a gun I'm in
*queue watermelon heist music
got damn it you crazy son of a gun .... I'M IN!
Only John can get away with this
There once was a man with a melon
Who had an idea worth sellin’.
It took him some bravery,
But he made the thing savory
And got all the picky folks yellin’.
Ha that was great
So good!
Hahahaha...😂 😘
I stood up to applaud
😂🌺😅💐
I won't deny that my first thought was "but it's not April 1st"
Me too
Same m8
Lol same
Just eating some cubed watermelon with Feta and basil/mint is refreshing and delicious! You can just use a little salt. No olives required if they're not your jam.
Ehh... olives are more my tapenade.
Thank you for the affirmation! I cannot stand olives and was wondering if there was a good substitute, but you are so right - it will still be good with olives omitted!
I couldn't find a big watermelon. So I did a tossed salad. Delicious. Highly recommended.
"Intense flavor profile" was my nickname in High School.
Nice one Rhett
That's what the guys in gym class said. I'm guessing it was all the watermelon,...
Coincidence: It's my nickname on Facebook now.
Mine was Tripod...kids can be so cruel.😔
Was that your Showers locker room nick name ??😋😋🍼🍼
I'll be honest with you, chef John has so much credit with me that I am actually giving this a try soon. There is no other person or cooking channel that could make me think this is something good.
I'm egyptian, and in egypt it's pretty popular to eat a White cheese with watermelon. But we usually eat the cheese with bread, like taking a bite from White cheese on a peace of bread and a bite of watermelon.
That is a great way to eat watermelon!
Same in Turkey!
While people in USA are eating pizza with pineapple we people in Greece are eating watermelon with Feta
*everyone except for italy eating pizza with pineapple
Just watermelon and feta? Nothing else on it?
@@sc8307 nothing more nothing less
I put Watermelon in my salad with feta , roasted sunflower and Pumpkin seeds 🤷🏻♀️. When i worked at this hotel back home in germany our chef made watermelon soup in the summer it was served cold and so delicious and refreshing but i have no idea how they made it. They also made strawberry soup 😋😋.
Uhhhh balsamic glaze would top this pizza off very nice
“Older undeveloped 🧠 brain “. 😂. Brilliant
I'm getting "I am the Lord of my Gourd" printed on every shirt I own.
The World : Pineapple on pizza is evil
Chef John : I changed the dough for Watermelon
*Everyone liked that*
Me : wat
If you cut up the watermelon, this can be a salad honestly
pineapple on pizza is delicious for those with tongues developed enough to savor the sweetness of the fruit and tang of the sauce at the same time
People that don't like pineapple on pizza are the same people that don't like 1000 other things.
This is one of those easy “wow” dishes that I kind a wish doesn’t go viral so my friends will think I’m just a genius.
Same
After all, you are the Mona Lisa of your watermelon pizza.
I just ate it with my girlfriend for lunch and it was amazing!!!
The first bite was a bit confusing but once you get going its soo great. Really this cannot be done without the feta-melon-olive trinity. I think the mint should be added in small amounts and personally i like a bit more pepper, but thats personal.
Really if you are on the fence if you should try this do it! Its soo easy to make, only takes like 10minutes.
10/10 Chef, thanks!
Someone once said: "The worst part of a watermelon tastes like the best part of a cucumber." and while I disagree with the whole "best/worst part" thing, I kinda get the greek salad vibe this dish is going for.
Mark me down as skeptical, yet open-minded.
The worst part is the red part. I dont think it tases like cucumber.
I was skeptical but when you put it this way I kinda get it
People that say that the worst part of the watermelon tastes like the best part of a cucumber have no taste....
Nearly everyone: Pineapple on pizza? GROSS
Chef John: *Hold my beer*
He had me until I saw the olives
Pineapple on pizza, like tomato, is GREAT, especially with ham or Italian sausage! Don't diss it 'till you've tried it. Much better than watermellon!
*hold my cayenne
Before watching: You may have just lost me, Chef. Let’s see how this turns out.
After watching: Well it looks like I’m gonna have to try this out. Well played, Chef.
When someone comes up to me and say they can't cook, I'll show them this video
Quite honestly the feta and mint on the watermelon is all that is needed to make this a wonderful dish!
This is a dish for a turtle.
I am the cool kid from Germany making videos for the USA and the rest of the world. I will make your day so don't say nay to my videos today, dear sfm
@@AxxLAfriku shut. Up.
@@beckyweisfeld6977 then don't eat them becky
This is why people should give things a chance. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Watermelon and feta is pretty good
With feta, sure. But briny olives, sorry man. I guess I'm Chef John's "other" type of person.
Dafuq!? Why do I keep running into your channel?
Yeah but would you eat cheddar cheese in a cake? Because that's a thing
@@logicape yep. He really overdoes it.
Ooooh yes. I can smell this video! My twins are finally home from Germany, and my son Peter was THRILLED to watch Chef John again!! He missed you, CJ.
Wow....here 1 minute after posting, simply amazing!!! This looks beyond wonderful and delicious; how creative and healthy! YUM! Thank you Chef John!
Throwing watermellon on the grill would elevate this dish to a whole new level
I've made Watermelon/Olives/Feta/Avocado salad before, and it really does taste good.
@Ich Dien Not much really. I used a bit of olive oil and squeezed a lemon over it (I replace most of my vinegar with lemon juice, I just think it gives salad a nice fresh taste), though I think balsamic vinegar might also work.
@Ich Dien You're welcome! Hope you enjoy 🙂
I was wondering from the thumbnail how the hell you were going to make an 11 minute video out of this... Your integrity humbles me. Bravo, Sir!!! Bravo!
John you've been doing this for well over a decade and I really appreciate seeing you bring so many new flavor ideas to the table. God forbid you step out of the comfort zone of some people for a video or two after 14 years of content!
excuse me wtf
Edit: it sounds good tbh. I have opened my eyes to the light of the savory watermelon
This looks...really good. I personally would go for the balsamic instead of rice vinegar. But, I'm a bariatric patient and can't have a lot of sugar. Sad face.
I was a mediocre 27 y.o. Cook aficionado A couple of weeks ago but thanks to chef John I’m becoming a great cook. Thank you so much, chef. You make it simple, tasty n fun.
Chef John, I just now tried an alternative version of this with pre-cut watermelon instead, and I'm blown away by the flavor combos! Thanks so much for introducing it to me!
If Gene Rayburn’s Match Game was still on TV, Chef John would be the most fantastic panelist.
I'm trying this tomorrow, we got hella mint in our garden
How'd you like it? 😎
Me and my girlfriend watched this together, she loved the lord of gourds bit so much. You intentionally gave a title to her next druid dnd character.
Gonna try this for sure!
I absolutely love watermelon 🍉 and this is a fabulous vegetarian 🌱 take on “pizza”-the salty, sweet, juicy and briney must be amazing! Thank you for this!
Just when you thought 2020 couldn't get any worse
Dear chef John, thank you. You carried me through one of the most stressful times in my life. I wish I could repay you but I'll just leave a comment on one of your videos.
That looks like a dish of pure yum. My Mom used to make this in a chunky salad form. Same exact ingredients...and my old grandpa turned me onto salt on apples and watermelon near 50 years ago. God rest both their wonderful souls...and Bless You for making me think of them both in that childhood taste/smell sort of way. sensory memories are special.
“... but I agree ...” therein lies the secret to a long, happy marriage! 😀
So Chef John partakes in the whacky tabacky. Who would've thunk.
Organic, of course
Probably mixed up his oregano with "oregano"
why not? its actually very healing...it knocked cancer out of me!

This recipe checks all of the boxes: easy to prepare, visually stunning, and most importantly, absolutely delicious.
Tried this one Christmas with just a Danish blue cheese and a little light balsamic. FABULOUS! Everyone love it.
When served in this fashion (basically a watermelon salad), the watermelon takes on the role of a sweet red cucumber. It's delightful; just try it

what's really good with milk is sweet cornbread! however, my mom always used buttermilk, ugh. haven't gotten that old yet.
Awesome idea.
My birthday coming up and I will try do this dish. Thank Sheff for great idea.
Brilliant, Chef John! Looks so delicious that I’m going to try it tomorrow night. Salty, sweet and healthy!
Very hot here in the UK and this would be just marvellous. Can you send me some please? You are, after all, the Lyle Van De Groot of delivery topped-fruit.
Get some halloumi and eat it uncooked with some olives and watermelon, it's great.
Start a movement to get A/C in your country!
This condused the hell out of me as a dutchy. Groot doesnt ryhme with fruit for us XD
Don't try to buy watermelon in the UK, trust me. Treat yourself to a plane ticket to Greece and try a real one.
AhimSaah I immediately sent a message to a foodie friend in southern Spain
I'm liking this because it's chef john but holy heck! Watermelon pizza? Dang. Always enjoy the creativity though.
I happen to have the ingredients to this in my fridge. So excited to try it. Also, I’ve always sprinkled salt in my watermelon.
We have 100 degree weather and i cant imagine heating up the stove to make pizza, this sounds like the perfect alternative. The idea alone is blowing my mind. I love all those things seperately, now i have to try them combined. Thank you for giving me this excelent idea. Time to go shopping.
There are two kinds of people. Ones that throw the word "pizza" around willy nilly and ones that get annoyed with the other group.
Totally. This, if it was cubes and served with greens is my mom's fruit salad from the 70s
where the ole tapatap
Someone made this once at work, and I was completely put off by the idea, but honestly it was one of the biggest surprises for me, food wise. Really amazing combination that no one expects when they hear about it.
This looks wonderful! Everything my favorites. Trying tonight. Thanks for video😘
Lebanese eat something similar, with just cheese, watermelon and pita bread.
Mmmm yeah that’s called a cheese melt. This has *WATERMELON* tho!
@Lampadas Horde No, it's not a cheese melt...we eat watermelon with cheese and pita bread..we dont melt anything!!!
"dinged our melon" - sounds kinda dirty frankly.
Isn’t that the title of a food porn video starring Honey Dijon & Rod Salami?

A terrific and unique summer side dish! Thank you!
We have been eating this combo for years, and man it is GOOD!!! 🍉
Gordon Ramsay: *"IT'S RAW"*
and then smashes two watermelon slices on your face, you idiot sandwich... 😂
I don’t know who started this trend but I hope it ends soon 😂😂😂
I tried watermelon with salt for the first time and now I'm fanatical about how good it is.
This just upped the game.
This looks amazing. I trust in Chef John!
I love you man, but I'd never look you in the eye ever again if you served me this and called it pizza.
Perhaps this dish is, er, ripe for rebranding ...
Haha, come over bro, it's pizza and cards night. Can you just bring over some kalamatas?
*dies in Italian*
This is yummy I made this a few days ago as a starter and it was delicious
A recipe I never thought I would see on this channel, kudos. Mayb I'll try it someday.
Some instant downvotes from people who literally couldn't have seen the video yet. Hrmm.
Tried this tonight with some old family friends, and it was ACE. Used white wine vinegar, fresh mint from the garden, and Kalamata olives. It was a treat, and it's now a recipe logged forever in the big recipe book in my head. (I think that recipe book is bigger than my brain, these days...)
sooo good I love it!
Watermelon and feta sound as good as apricots and gorgonzola, my favorite summer appetizer. I'm going to try this as soon as I can!
My lord. You never cease to amaze me chef John.
I've salted my watermelon since I was a very young child. I never known anyone else to do it. This looks fabulous. I also salt my cantaloupe, my grapefruit, strawberries, and and most fruits I eat plain. Thank you for this idea. I've made a watermelon salad before which contains feta and blueberries for the Fourth of July (red, white, and blue). It was really good, too.
So MINDBLOWN!
This is just crazy enough to work, I hope I remember to try this.
I just know this is delicious, I’ve been putting watermelon in salads and it always great, this is very clever though and I’ll try soon!
Watermelon and feta cheese is a delicious combination. Every summer, when it gets too hot to eat cooked stuff (like right now) we make a salad from watermelon cubes with spring onion (sliced in fine rings), feta, sunflower seeds, olive oil, salt and pepper. Super, super fresh and yummy.
Thanks John
This is why I love this guy!
I just added the ingredients to my shopping list! Thanks!
i make something similar. watermelon chunks with feta, red onion and balsamic vinegrette. a lovely summer salad.
I remember a similar recipe by chef john like 10 years ago. Nice to see an update and upgrade to an old classic
Mind-blowing!
As a Greek with my whole family and friends eating watermelon with feta for afternoon snack, this surprises me. Thanks for this!
Athens Greece checking in! My grandmother used to eat this every summer 😋 as the rest of the family. Great combination with peppermint or basil and green Kalamata olives!!
I have had watermelon and feta cheese and loved it! Will try with olives as well at some point!!!
This reminds me of summer lunches that my mother gave us; it was a thick slice of good cheese, bread and watermelon. Cheese and watermelon goes well together.
Chef John you are the man
I have never had this but my mouth was watering like crazy while watching this video
Looks yummy!
I'd give it a try... just because it's you Chef John!
I've had something very similar to this in salad form, with the watermelon cut into cubes, and crumbled goat cheese (if I remember correctly). It was so delicious, I couldn't believe it! I'm definitely trying this because it looks even better.
Yours in creativity, Chef John! We already love this in a salad. Why not?
One snack i've been eating since i was a kid was watermelon with peanut butter! Always loved it and highly recommend if this feta/olive approach is too intimating to tackle but you are still curious about salty sweet watermelon pairings
Awesome. Just tried this. Thank you Chef John!
I have to say the magical ingredient was the fresh mint.
I grew up in the Balkans eating watermelon with feta aaaallll the time !!! Bless you Chef John for making this video.
We cubed the watermelon into bite size pieces and mixed it in bowls with all the other ingredients. Delicious! I don't know if I will ever eat watermelon any other way again.
Persians have been eating watermelon with feta cheese in lavash bread for many many many years!
It's called noon o panir (bread and cheese). We eat it with various things, one of them is watermelon! It also works with cantaloupe too!!
Ouaou! I will definately make this. Here in Greece is common to eat watermelon or grapes with cheese and/or bread but to put olives and mint and olive oil is something I have never thought. Thank you. I am sure it will be unique and delicious. Great snack for summer.
