I think the person who paid £25K to have dinner with Michael Gove was actually Michael Gove. He bid on himself so its dinner for one!
I’ve seen it happen before: when at Uni there was a ‘bachelors’ auction fundraiser where 5 guys were auctioned off for a weekend (I was one), and we had our own wager as to who could get the highest bid, so this guy Myles cheated by placing flyers up saying he would pay for a night in a 5* hotel in Switzerland! But when the auction closed it turned out the highest bidder on him was *himself* , as he’d run the numbers and buying himself was a LOT cheaper than a hotel trip!
