  • In this video, I swap out the old 6.5" Stock head unit to the new 8" Discover found in the new VW models. (2018 and newer). For those who are interested, this is a plug and play modification that is straight forward swap IF you have a 2016 and newer GTI / Golf R. If you have a 2015 Golf, you have the older MIB 1 and need to retrofit the MIB 2 inside your glovebox as well.

    Fantastic demonstration of how to get out the media screen. My Discover Pro was switching on and off with every bump and the dealer wanted to take apart the entire dash to find the problem. Turns out the main connector on the back of the screen was just loose (which the dealer assured me was NOT the problem . . . because they checked).

    Thank you very much for this video! I have a 17' VW Golf R, and the screen was honestly my only complaint. I order the screen and bezel from my local VW dealer and had it in 1 day. I followed the video in detail and had the new unit in and completed in 20 mins. The one thing I did differently was I didn't disconnect the battery, and I had zero faults. CHEERS!

      @ilimit  Před 2 lety +1

      Your 2017 should have the MIB2 in the glovebox so it should be a plug and play install with the faceplate. However you will need the gps module to run nav. I would highly suggest contacting PeterDNA on IG bc he is the ultimate guru at this and will gladly answer any questions.

    • @ilimit

      I believe so. There's a really good chance it is just plug and play - and whichever button you have to select hybrid functions - I think one of the buttons on the face plate will go ahead and access the information. However it won't be specifically marked hybrid, obviously. I wish you could luck in your search!

    hello, on this retrofit, do i have also to change the headunit? or is it ok only the display?

    • @ilimit
      @ilimit  Před 4 lety

      Since I have a 2017 vehicle in the states, I can just swap the face (display only). Any 2016+ GTI/R in the US should already have the MIB2 brains from factory. So for that, it is a plug and play solution (as show in this video). However if you have a 2015 GTI/R - you will need to also swap your MIB1 to MIB 2 which is found inside your glovebox, and that is more involved.
