- OK guys well its time to do another DIY improvement for the Project MK7. Here we are changing the MK7's 6.5 inch headunit to the new MK7.5 8 inch headunit from Eurozone Tuning!

Instead of disconnecting the battery and having the car forget about itself, freaking out with warnings and having to recalibrate itself after the battery is reconnected - simply pull fuse #10 from the fuse box behind the cubby by your left knee on the dash. This removes power from the unit, put fuse back when you have done the upgrade.

That large trim piece is such a PITA to remove! I wound up removing mine TWICE since I did some rewiring for my ham radio projects. The trim piece had a few small bits crack. So, they have Household GOOP on them to keep everything together now. I hope I NEVER have to remove that again! HAHA! I went with the older-style Mk7 8-inch screen with carbon-look trim. I like it! Keep up the good work!
Yeah I'm leaning towards the older carbon fiber trim version as well, which is a bummer since this screen is better quality. The glass black looks a little out of place with the rest of the GTIs trim so that would bother me for sure haha
cool didnt know u can do this switch. I like the mk7 unit. It has that matt finish which stops finger prints from being to visible. Also not really watching a movie on it so its all good. New unit looks good tho.

@@JR14Channel hey man, I just installed the headunit, looks really good. But now I'm getting an airbag error. I double checked the hazard switch and it's connected right. Did you get the same error after you installed it??

@@masonswindler7063 I think is because I turned on the car while de hazard switch was disconnected 🤦🏻

could u have just fitted the old vents to the new bezel? found a headunit on ebay with the bezel but it does not come with new vents.

did you have to do any reprogramming with vcds or is that if you swap the brain unit out ?

@JR14Channel hey man really dope vid! Off topic but how did you wire your radar detector? Did you run it down the a pillar to the fuse box or tap in above in the light console ?

Thank you bro I went with Pinalloy Auto Accessories brand here is the link for it. I did the install myself. It’s not difficult to do it just take patience.

will the carplay work with my mk7? It has the weird proprietary connector so I don't know if it'll work.
So in your case, in order for this to work you would also need to switch out the unit that it’s in your glove box

So this headunit doesn’t need a full in depth review. It has the same functionality as the OEM one. It’s just a bigger screen with higher resolution

How does the gloss black look with the rest of the trim being faux carbon fiber? From what you can see in the video, it looks a bit out of place?
Well eventually I’m going to rewrapping all of the trims in the GTI. The old head unit use to have the same wrap as the rest of the trim but I just haven’t ordered it yet for the new one. Trust me you are right about the trim piece but it only temporary.
I have a mk7 gti SE 2017..without navigation. Can I purchase the navigation one and still work? The non navigation is out of stock..will it come back in stock?

How hard is it to replace the mib1 and install an mib2? Can I just put an used one?
That I’m not sure but it can be a little more labor intensive because I believe that you would have to remove part of the glove box to actually successfully get the MIB brain out of the car. Also I’m not sure if there is any coding involved once that unit is swapped out

No None of the MK7's or MK7.5's came with wireless CarPlay. However, the MK8's have them

Yea it does suck that they didn’t have any other options for trim colors or designs but that’s why we have vinyl wrap!!!
Is the OEM unit a bit more money than an aftermarket unit?
Yes but it work like an OEM unit which means the quality is top notch and it always worked
Did you have to buy the MIB2 unit?
If you have a 2015 model year then yes but if you have a 2016-2017 model year then you don’t have to purchase MIBII unit. My car was a 2017 so I just had to only purchase the screen itself and install it in the car

Why not just get the European discover pro? Is this cheaper and better?
The European Discover pro wasn’t available for me to purchase at the time and plus this make the MK7 more modern in my opinion
