Hey, what happened with the first time you posted this?
Little tip...right after you caulk the exposed nails on those cap shingles, get some fresh granules by rubbing two shingles together and sprinkle them onto the caulk to hide them 😉
Amazing job for your first time bro
As a former roofing contractor commercial and residential I was extremely impressed you took on this project. If I could add one recommendation, it would have been the ventilation. Ridge vents give the best and help cool the attic. But all and all you did a great job. Enjoyed the video.
I was surprised their was no ridge vent or turtle vents either... But i guess that's what vented soffit is for.
Round 2 of this video. Let’s go!!
brings back memories working with my dad, grandpa, brother, and great uncle doing numerous roofing jobs in high school and college years. We did it the old fashioned way, work by the hour, hand nailing every single shingle after labor on tear-offs. Definitely not as efficient as today's crews but they charge substantially more than we ever did even when it took longer to complete a job.
We have video after 13:12! Thank you for reuploading!
big respect. Roofing is one of the things I will not deal with as a DIYer. I feel your sleepless nights, I cross my fingers everything is sealed and you don't get any bad surprises.
Awesome job. To repel bees you can get a couple pots of mint, citronella, eucalyptus or cloves.
Brilliant work. It's not just the money that you have saved but it's a new skill that you've learnt. Well done.
Next time you do ridge caps. Lay one on one side mark the edge, lay another one on the other side mark the edge. Pop a line between marks. While installing the caps follow the line makes you ridge much straighter and its easy to stay on course.
this
Back to finish the video ☕️. Glad you got it fixed! House is looking good. Been following since you started your channel. You’re killing it, keep it up brother 💪🏼
Ive been a roofer. 35 years, you did a great job on the roof.
I'm actually genuinely happy for you that you were able to complete this project, because 3000 sqft of roofing is a lot of work. And I'm also happy that you found a pair of gloves 😆
In regards to the bee problem if they've got a hive on the property you could try reaching out to your local Beekeepers Association. Most cities have one and they could likely help safely remove the hive or recommend a local pest control specialist that does live captures.
It's easy to find locals to call, usually they have a facebook page or something if they don't have a website. We just had a specialty contractor pull a new honey bee hive out of the celling of our attached garage, sucked the whole hive up and patched the hole.
The yellow jacket nests get sprayed though.
@@TekedixXx Serves those yellow jacketed bastards of the animal kingdom right.
@@TekedixXxAre u by chance in the fraternity called TKE? They go by TEKEs is why I ask since ur name is so similar. Haha. Cheers.
This is the best advise
Great job Mr. Build It!!
I admire you for not being intimidated by the projects you take on. I guess the best way to learn is to jump in and do it yourself. I look forward to your videos!!
All the respect to the roofers out there.
Yess
I just learned the other day from This old house that they recommend drip edge to not be installed flat against facia but instead gapping it out a little bit to keep the water away from facia and soffit
After also doing my first (hopefully only) roof job in July, congratulations. I have a new found respect for roofers and what they do.
as soon as I saw you doing the closed cut I was 100% sure you would forget to clip the dog ears. very impressed you did a deep dive with your homework!
One of the best videos you've put out. Period. So much value added, great tips and really thorough. Well done! So pumped to see this series continue
I'm extremely proud of you. That looks soo good. My niece's husband has a roofing business, so I know how hard it can be out there. Great job! 😊
Great Job!!! Especially going out of your comfort zone, taking the time to learn what makes both a good and bad roof!
Another awesome video. I’m loving the progress and so impressed with what you’re able to tackle by yourself with just another set of hands. Killing it and stoked to see more!
Greatest sense of accomplishment is climbing out of your comfort zone and tackling a huge job. I’ve done it so many times on so many projects that now it just is a matter of starting anything I put my mind to. Greatest feeling!!! Great job!!!
Great work brother! Definitely shouldn’t doubt yourself. You do solid work! Can’t wait to see the rest of the project and what you do inside the house!
Respect - Enjoy a fresh cold one either be a beer or a tall glass of water you’ve earned it, keep this series going - should have also added a breakdown of if you were paying for your helper that you had can’t wait to see the next episode
Top job . Well done for taking it on.massive win. Keep up the good work . Loving this series.
W/ proper overhang, drip edge is not necessary, 1” past on rake edge, 2” overhang past gutter board🤙
Great channel man, love it.
@mrbuildit Great watch.
If they are bees, I would bet there's a local keeper that could come transfer the colony to a new contained hive and move them. If they are paper wasps which is what i usually see up in trees like that or under eaves, just spray em.
Paper wasps are smaller, more aggressive and the hives look like isolated clusters of combs that are dull grey and sinewy.
A bee drone also usually only stings once and leaves the stinger in you and dies typically. If they stinging multiple times and coming back for more, they ain't bees you're worried about saving to my knowledge.
As a roofer myself I have to say you did a pretty god job for a first time... one thing I noticed is that you missed the ice and water barrier your suppose to put on the bottom 3 foot of the roof. Other then that, nice job man!
Looks great man, props to all the roofers out there, especially in the south in the summer.
I used to work with a bee keeper. He recommended citrus oil on areas that bees and wasp keep building nest. It's a natural repellent. I have tried it and have had success with it.
About the bees, contact a local bee keeper. Many can relocate them
Mad respect for all you've done so far! Can't wait to see what's next. Rest up & stay safe👍😉
Mighty impressive work back breaking work too hope you’re getting those evening rub downs from wifey!!! Bring on the interior !!!
Great job!!! 🎉
Good for you!! That was a huge undertaking!
Should have chalked some lines to avoid getting wavy looking shingles
Just wanted to let you know you are awesome and inspiring. I love how you use any mistakes to learn from and never hide it from your audience.
Never give up. Love your work brother.
I'm interested to see how you do the flashing on the chimney!
I was thinking the same thing.
Solid work friend!
Great job. Roofing is a rough job.
A few things:
On old houses, run steel in the valley. Helps keep the valley straight and flat on mix and match roof decks. Then put ice and snow over it.
Ice and snow on the eaves. Protects the roof edges, especially if you are in snow country.
That underlayment can be stapled down in spite of what the manufacturer says. Just dont go crazy with them, only staple the top and bottom edges.
And now you understand why professionals get paid professional rates.
That is quite the project for a first time roofer. Props my dude. Not a bad job either. And yes bee's suck when your up on a roof. No you will never not have to deal with them when roofing lmao.
Great job!! Love the inspiration!!
wow, top job! hope the rest of the build goes smoothly
Another great one! Looking forward to the next!
Awesome job 🎉
Rock on Amigo. I did a concrete tile remove, new underlay and reset - I felt the same way - super proud of the work. I fixed a TON of things that a normal roofer would not have (trim, vents, etc)......but the entire job kicked my ass. I did save a ton of $$. High quality kneepads are a MUST.
For bees...call a local apiary. If they are honey bess...they are often happy to come get them and give the bees a good home.
I like this series. Keep them coming!
Respect. Can't wait to see what's next
Well done. My back hurt just watching this!
Looks great, keep up the amazing work brother.
So, something really big that comes out of this series: What is your own time worth to you? Brakes front and rear with rotors and pads on my car - $844 at the garage, parts $250 or so, savings of almost $600. Then it took me about 12 HOURS start to finish because even though I watched videos, I still needed to figure out how and to do the brake job. Same thing here, sweat equity is VERY worthwhile, but boy is it hard work!
Nice breakdown, greatly appreciated in the work you share and do! DIY with no where near as much help does take time for sure. To think there's roofing teams that complete it in about 8 hours on 2000sft homes etc!!
Like you said up north we use Ice and Water shield along the gutter edges and valleys. But we install the Ice and Water first and extend 2” onto the fascia and then install the drip edge. Also I have the guys then strip in the drip edge for a little more protection. You are also correct that Ice and Water shield is very expensive.
This has been the best video series you have done so far! Congratulations!
I found myself admiring the straight lines of the underlayment
Thanks for all the videos! Just bought a farm…. And I have a shit load of reno to do, you are my source of inspiration, thanks to you I am amble to get out of my confort zone and attack many projects in front of me! Keep up the good work!
It’s looking great!
Call a Beekeeper to relocate the hive. BTW, Nice Roof! You SHOULD be proud of yourself, not many can say they have shingled a roof and saved that much.
When I did my roof i also couldn’t justify one of those pneumatic cap nailers, so I went with a magnetic tip cap hammer. You put the cap on the tip and in one swing the cap is set. After a while it goes pretty fast and it’s one less process with a hose to trip on. As for the ridge cap, when you get to the end and have exposed nails, put some roofing sealant over the nails, rub two scraps of shingle and collect the granules and sprinkle them over the sealant and they will disappear.
Great job! You should be very proud. It looks great!
I like that your not scared to try something you haven't done with caution, teach your kids that and grandkids
Great work dude!
🙇🏽♀️Yay I love when you pop up on my newsfeed❤❤❤ great job enjoyed the video and yhe Bees🤦🏽♀️ 🤔the only advice I got on the Bees is💁🏽♀️ chop down that tree😂😂 no tree, no bees.🤷🏽♀️lJS
Half hour video? THANK YOU from all of us. Enjoy watching this.
Fair play. You worked your ass off on this. Be proud.
I am 56 and in the middle of my own house roofing project. Mine is 3800. They wanted 15,800. Like yourself, I said heck with that. Unlike yourself I have absolutely no one to help me. Lol Also wasn't able to get rooftop delivery. So it is carrying everything up a ladder. I have learned how out of shape I have gotten. Every day I get off the roof it is like some beat the tar out of me. Lol I am not going to get mine done before winter sets in. So I am looking for a stopping point. I did strip mine and re-roof in sections. Which is a little slower and a bigger pain, but does provide some security. I enjoyed your video. It is nice to know I am not the only insane individual, but I can assure you this is the last roof job I will ever do.
Wow great job
Nice work man!
Way more to this than I would have guessed! Great job.
If you have a bee hive in or near the house you can find a contact for your local beekeeper group and someone will come get them for you. I live in Southeast TN and I've removed 7 hives from houses just this summer.
I’m proud for you!!! What an undertaking! You should celebrate the WIN.
Awesome job man!
We own a 4 year old home that has plenty of issues caused by corners being cut during the build, so don't worry about what randoms do with their roofs while claiming to be professionals.
Wow this is a huge amount of work. You are amazing!
Beautiful work!
Watched the first one now the correct one after the blackout.
Awesome job. Hope the next project is the workshop garage so you’ll have your tools to work inside. Let’s go
Coffee! The bees hate the smell of burning ground coffee
Add a bead of tar under the valley cut or next time try the "California cut valley" Nice vid tried watching yesterday but didnt get far
Great job
Hola! 🖐Job well done! Literally one of the most backbreaking jobs in construction. I've done a few, from demo to the final ridgecap and it's very satisfying to see a finished roof. Good luck on the next phase and project. Take care and have a good one, Adios! 👊
you made the roofing job look easy... well, sort of. I would have hired a roofing company but this gives me confidence that it can be done fairly easy.... well, sort of.
I had a thousand Hornet and wasp nests when I moved in here, The foam Raid worked really good, Killed them all, And they haven't came back.
INCREDIBLE WORK MAN!! See all your videos and you're awesome, I enjoy every video that you upload.
Greetings from Spain!!
Yay fixed video thumbs up now!!!
LOOKS SO GOOD! You're a beast.
Looks good!
Look at you! You kicked ass and took names!! Bravo Sir!!
Curious - why didn't you use those metal shingles that look like asphalt shingles? They are supposed to be very price-competitive.
I tip my hat to youre perceverence. Thats a lot of work.
And the bees, call an Imker. He wel re-locate the nest and queen with all the bees. Dont let them near the house the will nest in it.
Best solution off top of head for bees is smoking them out and building them there own bee house 😅
25:00 you can get someone to come and smoke them out and take them to either a farm or relocate them
You worked hard to get the best result possible. Well done! You should be proud not easy work.
Awesome job!
I’m impressed. You did a good job and showed why roofers charge as much as they do. That was a lot of work.
Uaoooo... One man show. Very nice. Congrats.
