- Alex Pereira went viral on social media with a unique technique that is rarely seen in practice. Sweet T and I break that technique down as well as give you 2 more unique ways to check kicks! One technique I picked up from the great Anderson Silva!

Joe Rogan voice "OH! he got him with the discount double check DC!" "Nice use of the Booty Check on that one"
Has even AP himself ever actually pulled this off in a fight? I doubt it
Bro Stephen so strong he had to make sure he ain’t spiderman
For Real, he looks to tall which will probably help him even more💯
That was his fingering technique
You gotta make sure my boi
Check out how Jose Aldo checks low kicks. Best I’ve seen, rarely talked about.
Great idea!
Brings his heel to his butt, Charles olives checks kicks similarly too!
That leg check is in the movie Ong-Bak (2003)
That move was performed by Tony Jaa.
If im not mistaken I saw that check In the late 80s early 90s martial arts movies
And funny enough he also uses the butt check on the same scene
Yo the movie actually did both of the pereira's and booty check in the same sequence.
Damn these copy cat mma fighters!!!
Jason Statham also does this in "The Transporter"
@@napsolo3453uh probably because its a wing chun technique that people have used in many films
Chama 🔥 🗿

That Anderson Silva technique and sound effect got me laughing so hard !
I've been waiting on your thoughts ... thanks Coach!
You inspired me to start my Karate game Stephen!!!!!! I did bjj for 2 years, cant wait wait to work on footwork and jabs. Speedy recovery, much love from LA!
Speedy recovery Stephen!
Looking forward to more techniques! 😊
Your a great influence dude, One of the best character's in the UFC. Were pulling for ya bro. keep it up!
These two blokes work well together. A natural co-hosting dynamic.
Quick Feedback: Alex foot would be back down before or about the same time as the opponent kicking leg (no chance to advance attack)because the kick would help move Alex leg back into position or he could stick the Jab with same motion he's using to create the "check" because with his power the jab is a ko punch lol.
I have one block thats "similar" but is a... High risk high reward i usually do when i can read my partner, basically you sufficate the kick with a " low weird front kick" and from that you go mid or high with a round kick.
This is an old school karate move, I think Ashihara guys do these a lot
Great stuff as always! Sweet Tea adds that "extra" he always does that gets me laughing and learning at the same time! LOL
this video gave me some very interesting new ways to use techniques I already do, which is what I tend to look for when I look at other styles
Absolutely remarkable technique, thank you so much for sharing. I hope the doctor releases you 💯
Thanks for being awesome Wonderboy! Have a good day! 🎉
On a recent episode of JRE, Joe talked about how Pereira had explained his standard leg checking technique to Joe and DC. Joe made a really big deal about how it differs from other techniques, and how it fits into a larger system. Joe explained that him and DC both agreed that they would not talk about this technique or system as they both felt it would be giving away a legitimate secret/advantage.
When hearing Joe talk about this, I didn’t get the impression that he was being hyperbolic… Gassing Pereira up.
Personally, I’d love to hear your break down on just what is so special about this. Thanks guys
See, I don't think he genuinely checks like this(only does it training)... I think Joe was maybe talking about something else. But I guess we'll see
Someone is a birthday boy on Sunday!! Happy early birthday WB!!
Another thing alex does is he lifts his lead leg like a hinge to dogs kicks. Jose Aldo originally use to do this a lot.
i was looking this up a few days ago and didnt found anything about it, and then there you are uploading this vid, like reading my thoughts
Awesome bro!
Like the friday fight tips
One of my favorite personality’s always vibrant in positivity
Wonder boy you the goat of capoeira and craziness
Cool topic,,,,and not one many wud consider,,,big sparring,,is bunch small things..thanks for great show..
You boys and your dad have the best hair genetics I've ever seen
Great stuff.
Nice info Brothers
That curl check is dope.
The secret to life, more Sweet T
Hallo wonderboy!!!! We are some of your fans all the way from South Africa!! What is the chances if we buy some wonderboy merchandise that it can come with your autograph? That would be so awesome!!
When we're smashing lowkicks in Muay Thai, pad holders will often do this to take the sting out of the blow and spread the impact. Ofc in a genuine bout its not better than a standard check.
There's place for each technique. In fighting there's little space for "always" and "never".
Ooo gonna try that
YEP! @@umbrellastation25
Could you do some more blocks and counters for leg kick from a karate stance?
Wondering if and when you would use a front kick to disrupt a leg kick, or sweeping out the support leg.
Also, since it's awkward to do Thai style check for a leg kick from karate stance, what do you think of side kicking with the lead leg toward the midsection?
@WonderboyMMA
I think the discount double check (as you guys say 😂) is a really cool technique. Have you ever used that in a fight? It would be awesome to see that.
Love the content, I appreciate the work you guys do.
Love this move! I saw it quite a few times, not exactly sure where, but I think it was asian martial arts movies from some or all of these actors: Bruce Lee, Jet Li, Jackie Chan, Tony Jaa
My favorite way of checking the leg kick is to throw a teep to the shin. Basically using the curve of your foot to perfectly cup the shin
This man is too nice
Nice!
Advance Happy Birthday Champ!
We love You to.
Please do hacky sack or footbag video🙏
Have seen it in Muay Thai in Thailand.
Used after high kick, when opponent pulls and counter with low kick.
So if high kick with right, blocking will be with left foot.
Also, if you have good wrestling and ground game, when you catch the leg in the bladed stance, you could turn it into a takedown.
Waiting for WB vs. MVP 💥 🔥
Sweet T looking more and more like Jiri
i do this all the time in sparring and im squared up.
you dont have to check the kick so far out, you can make it basically on impact point. it stops the shin from penetrating.
i wouldnt do it in a fight but its fun in class
Happy & Healthy Birthday
if your going to pull a movie for an example it was actually done first in Return of the Dragon in the fight scene with Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris. It's classic. That move has been around forever.
The rabona check works, super fun.
I do that check all the time. I recommend resting the instep along your leg. The foot can take an impact better than bare leg… even with hard kick
hey brother, I use my lead leg the same way as well (when my weight is shifted back), using a little lift and "aiming" that same knee inward to make the impact the heel, give it a try.
PS tell your father I said hello. Cheers!
Royal Nelson Thompson is cool too.
I was thought this technique in a Muay Thai seminar.
But he also taught a low calf/ankle kick and a sweep as a counter to that leg check.
It's a quick check, but the risk of having your lead leg be the only one planted can be exploited.
It works, just like everything else, but there are always counters.
Yeah its advantage is higher if your opponent throws after a shift. Or if they feint kick every so often. And you are having issues reading what side he will kick on.
My trick is i use it on guys who throw after the shift. That way when i see the switch i can focus on punches. And just autopilot a double sided check.
Defs puts you out of position for a takedown. But if you are standing that bladed in MMA then something tells me the guy wont be shooting on you or grappling
Do you think I can sometimes use it in muay thai/mma competitions just to switch up your defense or is it too risky?
I asked my coach and he said it was too risky if the other guy threw a powerful leg kick because I would be off balance
A thought occurs, checking with the heel could be an effective way to actually hurt or break your opponent's foot. If they kick full force, and the top of their foot hits your heel, there is no way it doesn't hurt and make them rethink doing it again.
Ngl I’m impressed wonder boy pulled out “gorgeous” when talking bout Jackie Chan films. That’s a deep cut Forreals that no one really talks about.
the last one... so, I watched this super freak athlete on Warren Ave superman chest push to check kicks... to follow it up with a double leg... not sure how effective this would be in the pros, but, it sure seemed like a good technique for those athletic enough who could time the kick perfectly...
I believe McGregor did this same move but in Cage Warriors back in the day.
That was an attack not a check
Ye, rabonara football kick.
@@samknightley4173 yeah he stole it from Anderson Silvas Cage Rage days though.
Not saying Anderson did it first. But he definitely was the first to do it on National T.V. and its intend was a demoralising, pointless strike. That kept them guessing
Anderson said somewhere. when he did that he was trying to do a Eddie gordo move from Tekken 3...
The technique is an old, traditional Muay technique. Seen in Muay Korat, Muay Thai etc. Somebody else mentioned that Tony Jaa has demonstrated it.
Try some of black gokus interesting moves! He does stuff I rlly never seen before be nice to see u do some with him black goku streetbeefs
Check the Club Fight scene In Tony Jaa's Ong Bak. He performs the "foot block" and the "bum block" one after the other against the guy with the crazy hair :D, and that's a movie from 2003 :D.
As a Brazilian and WB fan i'd love to see you guys training with Pereira. The guy is always willing to spar with any UFC fighter why don't you guys try to reach out? If you need some Brazilian Portuguese assistance to talk to him, count me in!
Could you perhaps use it to hide a step in for a side kick?
Seems to apply a common football technique (soccer), as a modified check
Anderson Silva, stuck out his lead leg as Izzy threw a leg kick and instead of impact, Izzy’s leg slid up Anderson leg. Dominique Cruz commented on it. It was pretty cool!
The booty check happens often in the game of capoeira - which was in Silva's arsenal as well.
Part of me ALSO wonders if it’s aimed to connect the heel to the bases of the toes, giving good leverage on all the bones in your feet possibly hurting them. Then again I know karate uses the tip of the foot while striking so I could be WAY off😂
I saw thumbnail thought I guess this non fighter is gonna tell us if it is then I realized it was Mr Wonderboy
Michael Jai White does that same check in Never Back Down 3
Wb leg kick catch is frickin insane
I do not have any social media platforms please forgive me so I hope you read this comment Wonderboy of course I am not anywhere near your level however I am a lifelong martial artist and the way I used to check leg kicks was using a simple teep and in some cases a front snap kick maybe you will want to give it a try in sparring I hope it helps you or anybody else reading these comments much respect thank you also using enough force you can lock your pony off balance with either check I have mentioned
Seen it on never back down 3 first
Wonderboy gaining weight + Poatan cutting weight, a fight in the 84kg category would be a very interesting fight marriage to watch
It was also a shame we never got to see Wonderboy vs Adesanya, it would be extremely interesting too
Gain weight bro, the top category has almost no wrestlers, it would be very good for you
Quick question:
When you say he has to wait to put his foot down to get back to striking, doesn’t the same apply to the one who throws the kick? (I mean he is also on one leg only)
4:10 "Which in Pereira's case is almost everybody" Fcking true hahaahah
Wonderboy looks better than ever. You’d never think he had a broken foot 2 months ago
Steroids
James Bond reference was strong lol
This isn't a "new" thing but still cool for people who don't know about it. It has its risks/rewards like anything else
Talking about "High Risk, High Reward" and "weird techniques" (someone mentioned it below). 🙏
There's a "relatively easy and fast way" to deal with low kicks that can deter the opponent from doing it excessively (or at all) at the risk of injury upon "persistence".🧠
☝️Executed properly, you don't even need much speed or strength to perform it well enough.
Food for the brain!🧠
🙏
I once saw Jackie Chan squat into a leg kick in one of his movies where he fights the TKD guy, I tried it once and added a scoop with my leg and managed to pull the guy (with my leg) into a straight don't know if I explained it right lol it was kind of on accident, haven't tried it again might start drilling it.
Pancake on a wall?? 😂😂
Its a ⚽️ football technique..being Brazilian your seeing some culture in his fighting style.. Aldo as well in many ways with his lethal kicks
it's cool.
Better stability to just use a quick oblique kick from the front though, right?
Wonderboy I seen this check that he did and I even showed it to my dad and I was like dude I’ve never seen somebody check a kick like this. This is crazy that’s too funny that you made a video about this. I seen it the title of the video and I seen like check and I was like he’s gotta be talking about that behind the leg check that is so crazy. I’ve never seen anybody do it before and I guess you’d be better to ask anybody do you think this would actually work if someone was kicking at at least like 80% power, or would it just slap your foot right back and just hit your leg anyways?
Spinning elbow works perfectly with the booty check.
Alex poatan Pereira is really legendary who is two division lengendary kick boxing champion as wel as two division ufc champion he is real goat fighter
I know a guy who did wushu kung fu and his leg check technique was different he does a question mark kick/hook kick and kicks their leg as they're trying to kick yours and it results in a type of sweep
Let us not forget that in 2004 Ryo Chonan beat Anderson Silva because Anderson Silva liked to do the booty check with his legs together ! Ryo was the much smaller opponent and was losing the fight against Anderson but being a VERY experienced and smart fighter he took advantage of the booty check and leaped in feet first to secure the coolest leg lock ever done.
As someone whos well versed in bullshido, wouldn't this suck more if you think they're throwing a high hamstring hit but then come to the calf? You're balanced on one leg and that leg is about to be disabled and no back leg to stand on.
I've only been in one fight, I'm only asking, I have no experience.
Gray hair giving me Omniman vibes 💯
Kung fu technique I learned 20 years ago!
Think first saw Icy mike or someone do that foot check in a training video ages ago…??
Manel Kape uses it as a strike in the octogon
it can work but its unreliable, its to be seen if he can pull those blocks off consistently in a match, that will determine if its viable or not.
Sweet T is if Wonderboy and Sensei Seth had a kid
Joined a Muay femuer gym and they taught me the check in the thumbnail on my first day. Hurt my knee though, and leaves my right side completely off balanced. Doesn’t make sense to block with a bent knee unless u absolutely had to, also I have flat feet so it jolted my foot quite a bit. I think it’s a bit silly, a sometimes not always technique
I tried it this morning. It was weird but I'm slow this way and the orthodox way 😂
HAPPY BIRTHDAY WB!!! Have you ever considered inviting Pereira to train with you?
Lmao this video contains some crazy technology, gonna try this out
