Something always irks me about you promoting gambling. I think you can do better.
@@radesaul to be fair he put a disclaimer in the description about gambling
How much does fear affect striking? Alex does not appear at all to be scared of getting hit and this makes me think it allows him to stay in the pocket when necessary or better set up counter strikes. Like how Conor will just stick his chin out there and let them get oh so close or even Aldo absolutely nailed him but he was content with that to land his more effective counter strike. I know when I box I hate getting hit so much I seem to dwell on it then get lit up lol
@@JLPPRODUCTIONS-ql4ur I hear ya,
The last guy who said that Poatan only has the left hook was Jason Wilnes who ended up losing after a kick to the head and a knee. in a Middleweight Title match on Glory
I think I remember that. Didn't Pereira say before the fight that he was going to make sure NOT to K.O him with the left hook?
didn’t jason wilnes say that alex wasn’t a complete kickboxer and just a boxer because of his background, i don’t remember him saying anything specific about the left hook
@@swanny3184 Yeah, he said that, but everyone knew he was talking about left hook and straight right hand
@@swanny3184 Pereira is well-known by the left hook but he knocked out a lot of people with straights and knees. I think Pereira is one of the best or the best striker currently in UFC. if he is in a good day Saturday it will be a long night for Jiri.
Short* night
Alex is the definition of fearing a man who practiced the same kick 10,000 times
BINGO!!! Better to practice ONE kick 1000 times than 1000 different kicks ONLY one time..
@@mohamb3785d Watch literally any top muay thai striker throughout history. Lerdsila, Saenchai, Tawanchai in One Championship. MMA is the best combat sport but as far as skill it's nothing compared to elite muay thai or kickboxing
Paulo Costa landed two head kicks against Romero and Whittaker with all his strength and they didn't go down or go down
If we talk about the variety of leg kicks, maybe Paulo Costa has more, maybe
And that doesn't mean anything. Efficiency yes
Poatan's style is a style to be efficient, not plastic.
@@ByproductRebelMindJust practice 1000 kicks 1000 times
Forgot to mention leg kicks? There’s no telegraph due to his squared stance, and this was crucial in his dismantling of Izzy. I believe it will prove vital in his fight against Jiri as well if he can time Jiri’s stance changes with low kicks.
I definitely think his loss to Izzy definitely made him more patient once he has his cornered opponent, example being his last fight with Jan, rather than immediately going for the kill which cost him.
i really want pereira to ko jiri to silence the critics, they really think jiri will finish pereira😂
right on the money! wish it wasn’t an early stoppage tho
Vim do futuro para dizer que você estava certo!
@@AirLanceron the money, alex was a patient killer last night
his low kicks is the baddest, watch closely him vs Izzy and Jan how he dismantles 2 of the ufc best leg kickers ever has, unreal
The fact Izzy trained a lot to defend them in their second UFC fight and still couldn't deal with it is pretty insane
Jan spent the whole first round holding a body triangle, his legs were completely gassed. he started to defend them a lot better in the third round
Jan use technique with wrapping ankle and make it easier. Maybe good for UFC standard but for kickboxing standard or Muay Thai not impressive.
Best way to defend a leg kick is to counter with a straight. Jiris got speed so let’s if he can do it
@@narellano4726no he cant. First leg kick droped Jiri
You gave a lower note because he doesn't switches stances, while he destroyed Jiri legs **because** he was timing perfectly Jiri's stances switches.
While he does have a minimalist arsenal, he keeps managing to land the leg kicks and left hook in every single fight. It's time to stop ranking strikers by variety of strikes, efficient use of strikes are way more important than diversifying for the sake of diversity.
this was before that jiri fight

@@definitelynosebreatherspecially tonight after Thompson getting finished 😂
You forgot to mention his energy maintenance: he really picks his shots and doesnt waste much energy.
Izzy sold Pereira the possum play, Poatan thought Izzy was hurt like in the first fight and felt comfortable with hands low. Only way Izzy was going to win that and he did it. However, you can't fool Pereira again like that.
Por isso o Izzy não luta com ele novamente
They’re not in the same weight class
They both amazing fighters but izzy was winning their first UFC fight. Izzy sold his own fight by allowing him to pressure him to the fence
Well he already won 3x against the dude... Obviously his brain probably was too comfortable but like you said... Alex is way more careful now. We saw that specially against Blachowicz he got him wobble a little bit in the end of round 2 and he didn't get crazy trying to finish
Love how Kickboxers are taking UFC by storm. Poatan, Izzy, and obviously Wonderboy. Always been a big fan of Kickboxing, especially the elite of the elite!
They really need to stay having muay Thai fights like one... I absolutely love pure muay Thai fights and I know the ufc audience would probably be skeptical at first but give them a few good bangers and everyone will be on board.

Many kickboxer helped improve MMA striking level as coach as well, Ernesto hoost even helped Fedor Emelianenko to prepare crocop fight .
Poatan gets hate because people think his only claim to fame is an Izzy win or two. But really Poatan is beautiful to watch and really likeable too when you start watching more of the content he makes himself

The grading seems harsh for a kickboxing double champ. But I am no expert and excelling in distance management is probably enough with that huge frame and explosive power. Plus as you said perfect form on the techniques he uses.
i hope pereira shows his grappling skills against jiri to silence the critics, pereira is definitely well rounded for a striker
Punching power makes up for a lot. Just think of Ngannou, the baddest combat sports athlete in the world.

Zip it up when youre done
I was lucky enough to train with Poatan in Argentina, and I have a very close friend who helped him in his preparation for UFC 295.
His advantage is power, his entire fighting system, let's say, works because of his powerful punch.
The constant pressure he has on the enemy is terrible, and it's simple... he works on simple things and with power he sets the trap for you.
It is not the best footwork but with the combination of timing in your hands it is brutal....
It's unique
Hes long, hes lean, hes powerful, he knows his body and has developed his own style around it. My favorite fighter, and i think its awesome your homie helped him prepare.

Wanna see Poatan's distance management and timing? Watch every time he stops moving backwards in order to leg kick Strickland at the exact moment Strickland's left leg is about to touch the octagon
WonderGlue deliberately ignores that
What a treat getting a high level analysis like this!
these breakdowns are pure gold content!
He just seemed to go up a level in this one. I feel like he’s just settling in to UFC and what he’ll work on and focus on. People forget about that little kick he does. That thing is an axe chopping at your leg. Every person has stumbled when that thing connects and he does it right way to F with your brain. He uses that big bone on the side of foot to do it. He does t use top of foot much and doesn’t have to roll hip over to do the kick which doesn’t give it away that it’s coming. It’s so fast and painful-you can see everyone be surprised and nervous. He must have a serious rock hard callous built up on that and has mastered shooting it sideways so it digs in and he gets to keep his balance when he throws it that way. That thing is a major game changer for him. Seriously watch any fight in 1st round when he lets everyone know he has it and you can see their face change instantly and you almost can’t escape it because there’s no tel for it coming. Mike Tyson says -everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. But everyone has a plan until they get an axe kick to the leg. Not sure the name of that kick but the back side of an axe or hatchet sounds about right with the way it looks when you see ppls faces. In my experience these guys built like him are very hard at close distance. He has very tight rigid muscle and ligaments tendons. He’s very tight and stiff so punching him is like hitting a wall and because it’s all stiff he can generate power up close. I disagree it’s all at the end of his shot. That does refer to Conor who was loose and needed you at the end of the shot but Alex is tight and those close shots are quick snappy power shots too. I’d bet that anyone his size would say his short close punches are stronger than anyone. I mean even that leg shot he does is short and tight and he does more damage with those over his long kicks. I really thought he’d start having trouble by this fight but i saw a guy that has changed some things up and is now more confident-he definitely figured out something in his game he was missing and this is a different Alex then even the last fight. Him staying in Connecticut with Glover is paying off.
Love ya Wonderboy!! Thanks for the breakdown
Everyone talks about the left hook. No one talks about the calf kicks.
Times are tough for Wonderboy, he's even wearing old ripped shirts. I'm praying for you man.

I think u r missing the knee KO in the timing analysis. Also in the footwork, who has better footwork, the one that switch stances, move in and out and circles, or the one that with one single move put him in a position for KOing people?
I have some points about the way Wonderboy breaks this down in those factors too. At the most basic level, fighting is about imposing your own game while nullifying the opponents'. And just breaking it down in footwork / timing / variety / distance management doesn't give a fair assessment of how dangerous Pereira is. Charles Oliveira, for instance, has some visible holes in his game and does get hit a lot, but - apart from Islam - he was able to impose his chaotic style in every single opponent in the last few years, and has an insane win rate over top level fighters.
jiri is so overrated, i can't believe people thinks he gotta chance. his stand is terrible
This is the video I been waiting for !!
Solid breakdown as always Wonderboy, Alex Pereira striking skill is unmatched 👏👏👏

Coach was tellin me about my chin last night lol. Dude I can’t wait to see your next fight!
I think you should include power in your criteria. The fact that something like that goes unmeasured with a guy like Alex is crazy. Other than that I think the criteria is pretty thorough.
Power isn't a metric for skill so no point
@@raptorclaw6994 Really? That’s an interesting and very shallow attempt at invalidating my argument. Is there no skill in powerlifting? Is there no skill in explosive motion like high jump, sprinting etc? Skill can aid in a strike being delivered with more power. Yes some people are naturally gifted and have more power than others, but to pretend there is no skill in an explosive/athletic movement is crazy.
Awesome breakdown! Thank you
Great analysis. Especially the part about disrupting breathing

Wonderboy is the man
Alex "Putting You To Sleep" Pereira 😆
Wonderboy has the best breakdowns
I think it's almost safe to say that Alex has the best stand up game in the ufc.
His punches are incredible AND his leg kicks are insane! He generates speed and power that is almost unparalleled.
Only way to beat him is take him down.
Wait till he loose...you wil tell the same for some other fighter 😂
I’d say on a technical standpoint guys like o malley , sandhagen topuira and gane are better but pereiras jack of all trades master on none in the striking plus his earth shattering power puts him up there tho his boxing defence his past 3 fights has looked very spotty so he can definitely be beaten on the feet.
@@christophermorrison2626 Yeah I mean there's more well rounded fighters.
But Alex pretty much can break anyone down with just his perfect leg kicks and then his power left hook. It's a pretty mean combo!

@@PoatanCombatSportGOATwhat's so funny?
The most important component of Alex’s fight style is his tough chin, I’m glad you said it out, just watch Pereira vs Vahkitov, Pereira is very tough
I agree on the defence stat. All of the fights I’ve seen him in he’s been rocked - although most of the time he weathers the storm and throws back, I feel if he’s got his chin a little lower his jaw is covered a bit by his guard and shoulders.
Besides the constent Draft kkng adds WB has by far the best CZcams channels
I know we're talking about fractions, but I'd put his footwork at B- or even a B. When he needs to move, usually he moves (minus the last izzy fight)
i think a b is too high B- at most
He's started Kickboxing at 22..how crazy is that?
Are you moving up a weight division? That would be crazy cool 🔥
You are one of the best striker in UFC history nhga
Strickland thinking he could stand straight up right in front of Pereira and box with him is insanity
I disagree in the timing section, Poatan is also great with countering, though he prefers to be the agressor
B+ for timming is an injustice! rsrs
Guys one of the most accomplished kickboxers ever with his unique style that works perfectly for him
Idk about best striker but holy crap is that left hook nuclear💀
I love your videos
Poatan is the best what we can watch in MMA. Anyone that talk in opposite direction is delirium. His left hook is so powerful that destroy all opponents. Definitely, he's the best in UFC nowadays!
You should do a video on Alex periera secret calf kick and how to implent to other peoples game
His POWER(also leg kicks)..makes him probably makes him the most dangerous
My GOAT Wonderboy so busy training for Shavkat he doesnt have time to buy a new shirt! lol
What do I gotta do to get a training session w you Stephen?
In the variety section, where are the switch knees, the round house kick, question mark kick, wheel kick, teep kick? He's utilized all these throughout his career. Few of them in the UFC as well.
Poatan, The best of The best. 👊👊
6:27 I thought that was my dogs playing with a toy. Had to rewatch it like 5 times til I realized it's his. 😂
no doubt your best in striking
Nah, C+ for footwork after the masterclass in footwork he presented against Strickland isn't fair. Alex made sure to circle the whole fight while pumping out strikes and maintaining the right range in order to basically never allow Strickland to get his offense going.
Woooonnnder Boooyyyyyy 🎶
This is my hope: WB demolishes Shavkat (fingers crossed), and Colby (whom I actually like) loses. Then WB gets the title shot against Leon which will also be the battle of the best strikers in the UFC!
Wonderboy vs Rocky would be a sick fight but I doubt Wonderboy will demolish Shavkat. Rakmanov is a monster . It will be a though fight.

While is Izzy is like a unknown gender anime character.

If I'm in Poatan's camp, I'm focused on his defense. No low hands vs Jiri, he throws some wild stuff.
Jiri should be doing the same thing, both of thses guys have incredible power
This video aged so well like fine wine 🍷 😂
I would love to watch Stephen vs Pereira in kick boxing match
Do one for Pavlovich haha ... or Jiri I suppose for balance.
Do one for jiri too
I think a better explanation is he has scary speed and power but not great defense its hard because how do we call someone a good striker? Flashy techniques? Or knockout power?
Stephen really trying to make me hot and bothered with that tear in his shirt ahahah... its working i couldnt take my eyes off it the entire video had to get in the icebath after this one
Can we just give Wonderboy the Title already? We all want it. Wish the UFC would cater to him like they do these others.
Not good enough to get it
I would like to know the pros of a low guard (low hands). He's a end boss in striking so I refuse to think he's doing wrong a such a basic / fundamental stuff as "keep your hands up". But he's also not keeping hands as down as (let's say) Jiri, with the big advantage of hiding the hand strikes. Pereira blocks with elbows and shoulders sometimes but still I think I miss something.
Hands low helps takedown defense.
Low hands are in position to get underhooks and stuff a takedown attempt.
Jones vs Alex? 🔥
Those two need to meet up and train
Does Aleax keep his chin high to give the illusion of being further away as he leans back a little or something? Is it to entice the opponent to draw the counter? I cant for the life of me figure out how such an experienced striker would do this.
It’s part of his stance, when he throws he rarely leans into a strike which is why he usually is so accurate opponents can’t really get a read off his hip motion before the strikes come out and also I think that’s why his punches and kicks are so stiff but clean
Yeah it is an invitation so he can counter, earlier in his career he had a more typical kickboxing guard.
Like Alex said back then it's a trap because he always keeps his range... Also in UFC, different from Glory, he can better defend low strikes and submission attempts
Wonderboy advising Alex Pereira who is 7x times champ in Glory and double division champ + Middleweight Champ in UFC fighting 4 former champions and winning... How many UFC titles does Wonderboy has? 😅
any type of constructive criticism is valuable, especially when you are getting it from an experienced striker like wonderboy
@@lightning5261 Valuable for who? That's subjective. Pereira having all those titles in Glory (8x), being Anderson Silva sparring partner, beating Adesanya, Blachowicz, Sean Strickland, being middleweight Champion (something that wonderboy never accomplished)... Don't you think he already know that? Don't you think it's just Wonderboy (with all the respect) who won nothing against anyone really relevant is just trying to look cool? Don't you think is a bit of arrogant from someone who (wonderboy) is also a kickboxer and never accomplished anything very significant in that department trying to diminish Pereira's value/image as a fighter.
