I like the concept of considering stores as museums.. I can appreciate beautiful things without having to buy and own them
Yes, exactly like a museum!🙌🏻
Oh I like that! Never thought of it that way-stores as museums. Thanks!
My great-grandparents lived on a remote farm back in the old days. Whenever they needed something they coulnd´t buy in one of the villages or small towns in their area, they had to actually walk to the next bigger city. It was 40 k one way. So whenever I think "I need this", I ask myself: Would I walk 80 k for this? It heals me from a ton of needs and wants.
Wow, that’s a great question to ask!
Can you make a video on digital minimalism? the time I spend in front of a screen is starting to overwhelm, despite doing my best to decluttering my digital load. Things like the average time you spend on your phone/computer during the day, what apps you use and don't use and whether you struggle with it at all. I'd really appreciate it x
Thanks for the suggestion!
Ditto! Would love if you have any insights. It’s especially overwhelming as I age. It’s overwhelming the amount of time I spend on just basic online life management. It didn’t used to be this way!
@@SN-sz7kwI agree, it would be most helpful . ❤
Cal Newport has a great book about it if you re interested
"Learn to enjoy things without owning them." That's such a good thought!
So happy you found something that might come in useful to you in the video!
Bonus is meditating with you!
❤
He was, and it was so sweet!
I was just doing my bedroom. It’s the last room in the house to be done. Money is tight now. I decided to save a while longer to get nice carpet rather than making do with a cheaper one. I’ve made do my whole life. I realised if I didn’t get a weekly take away for six weeks it would mean £90 saved. I cut back on a few other bits too. Bought a lovely plant for the dining table instead of weekly flowers. £30 saved. It all adds up. When these are short term I find it easy to do knowing I’m doing it for a reason. I don’t want to have to replace it again too soon so it makes sense to get better quality and wait. It’s the inconvenience of replacing it too. Such a hassle. It’s made me realise how much I’ll enjoy the takeaway and flowers when I get them back as well😊. Sometimes it’s best to wait for what you want. I agree.
Thanks so much for sharing!
If I see something on Amazon I think I need to buy I always wait 30 days to see if I really need that item, very useful for saving money 😊
That's a great strategy!
Bonus is being such a good kitty while you meditate, just calmly watching you. 🥰
He may have poked me. Just a little.🤣
I love how your window is at the foot of your bed. I have a sloped ceiling so it makes it difficult to want to sleep under a slope. Your furniture placement ideas are great.
Great tips! I like to ask myself how many hours do I have to work to pay for an item. It stops me everytime! 😂
That’s a GOOD one!
My grandmother taught me this one when I was little. Such a good one!
1:13 I wanted to buy those gorgeous green speckled cups as soon as they popped up on screen. Yes, I can see the irony lol. Pls send help.
Haha, you need to follow the 9 step program😂
Loved the scene of Bonus 🐈⬛ sitting meditating beside you on the settee!! Xx
I just visited my sister in South Carolina and my niece wanted to look in the Coach store. I came so close to buying a bag on sale but then used some of the tips you mentioned and walked away from it. I was relieved because I knew I’d have buyers remorse if I had bought it.
Yay for you!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hay una frase en mi país que dice...No es más feliz quien más tiene, sino quien menos necesita.
Gracias Benita ,saludos.

Not morbid at all! Actually, it's one of the more effective ways for me to curb my impulse buying. Thank you also, for reminding me to cancel catalogs. I've gotten my mail down to almost nothing, but there is a company that sends a mountain of the same catalogs weekly. They go straight in the bin, but I need to stop them. Fab video! 🌻
I’m so glad you use that tip! And those catalogs😠
I do the ‘put it in the basket’ and carry it around. You’re correct, 9 times out of 10, I put it back. I love to walk as well for stress and cleaning/organizing really helps with my mind set. Great tips Benita!
Great minds think alike 😉
The visuals from the swedish stores and your day-to-day life are amazing, I especially appreciate the beautiful aesthetic in the stores since we don't see similar items here in USA. I can imagine how hard it would be to resist purchasing anything in there :) but curating your own home and having the things around you be calming and supporting you is better.
What keeps me from spending on "want items" these days is a trip to the gas station or the grocery store.
I like how you think!
I’ve got 2 statements that I say “maybe later” and “I’ll think about it.” These statements have been helpful to keep me from doing impulse shopping and I walk out of the store without the items.
Both great ways to approach it!
Such good advice, as usual. I’m glad you and Bonus are finding peace together. 🙏 🙂🐈⬛
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
The "take a walk" or "go for a run" helps me every time I´m stuck in online stores!
Such a great way to get your mind off that stuff!
One of my 'strategies' is to think about the hours or days/weeks I had to work to earn the money to afford this item/stuff and ask myself, if it is really worth the money. (and in the end my lifetime)
Also hold items on the shopping card helps a lot and unsubscribe advertisment/newsletters too.
And if an item don't get oit if my head over weeks (like the Muista Chair) I force myself to make a decision to get it out of my head finally. . (my Muista moved in this week *haha*)
Bravo, Benita! Big agreement that walking, meditation, and other meaningful activities feels much better than putting items in a shopping cart. (And how endearing to see Bonus by your side during meditation. 😺) The power of a pause is indeed useful when considering whether to buy something IRL or online. There's much to be said for acquiring experiences rather than items.
Love your videos Benita.
Yay, that makes me so happy to hear!
I agree with your practical tips, but there is so much more to impulse buying. It seems that buying items, especially in brick-and-mortar shops, makes the buyer feel powerful and successful. It's like a different persona. It would be interesting to see a video about that too: What lies deeper? What lies behind the spendthrift? Why do we do it? Almost everyone does, at least once in a while...
I always have items in my online carts and usually forget about them :)
Haha, I love that!
I am to broke to impulse buy because I know if I don't get exactly what I want and good quality I'll be stuck with the chairs. If I wait no matter how long it takes and I get exactly what I want and good quality then I don't have to buy them again or I won't cringe every time I look at them so it's definitely worth the wait. If I had a lot of disposable income then I'd probably figure well if I don't like them I'll just get rid of them and buy more but I don't. Much better to wait for my mental health.
Yes, definitely worth the wait!
Really good advice that I will definately try to remember. I particularly like the concept of limiting items to a given space, such as shoes. Unfortunately, I've just fitted another drawer for shoes in my wardrobe so I'm clearly not quite there yet! PS - I love to see a cat meditating 🤣
Glad you found some advice you can use!
And holding out for the perfect chairs will come at the right time and it will be even MORE exciting when that happens. It's always worth the wait.
Yes, when I do find them I’ll be 💃🏻!
I started as a little one with yoga. It makes my head empty of all the noise. After years of practice, it works the moment I need it. Moving made me a minimalist. Enter the kids, being hamsters, collecting all. I promised myself that I would empty all their stuff the moment they got a place for themselves, and in came the housing crisis. Oh well. Their houses are too tiny to contain all they collected. One day, I promise myself. 🤣 I am a minimalist but for the garden, somehow I always end up with 88 pots with plants I love 😉
Yoga is a great self care habit! And as for the plants, I get that 😅
I stopped myself tonight from buying something by telling myself I would think on it! Identifying triggers is SO spot on with me. Feeling bored or anxious or just feeling sorry for myself will make me buy something then I end up feeling worse! Before Ebay had the Watch it feature I bought way too much stuff there.
I love your relaxing videos❤
One thing I ask myself is “how will I dispose of this when the time comes?” Oddly, this often makes me realise I’m buying something as a temporary measure. It’s also a bit sobering about how much trash I’ll be contributing to. Usually I end up not buying it.
That’s a great question to ask!
Love your videos!
Yay, so happy to hear that!
Yay, the video I needed this spring 😆
Thank you!
I'm so happy if it's useful to you!
Great advice! Thank you:)

This is in depth and BRILLIANT!! ❤❤
So glad you enjoyed!
Hi. Watching your videos and enjoy them a lot. They are both inspirational and smart. Inspire by you I'm using now my dish washer as dish dryer. It is two of us and we are living in a tiny flat in South London. Really tiny. I have now more space in the kitchen. This moment I'm cleaning my washing machine and I'm mad. Why companies making so complicated all those plastic things. Does anybody of them ever clean washing machine or fridge? Maybe you can give us tips and advices how to clean it the best way. Especially container fir all this liquids in washing machine. Or maybe you already did it so tell me where I can find it. Thank you very much for all you doing. You are my the best inspiration for tidy my home and my life ❤❤❤
Another great video. Thank you.❤
Thanks so much for watching it!
Great advices, thank you!❤

Thank you for sharing another great video. I find being conscious of 'not putting too much on my plate' is definitely helpful.
YES. just yes!
Thanks so much!
Always good advice ...

Very helpful! Thanks for sharing❤
Very helpful and what a good idea for a video as we generally are in need of this especially with the constant fads and trends and ads that are out there.
Happy if it’s helpful!
Good suggestions😊
Glad you think so!
Thank you Benita! 💛 Such a wonderful and useful video. Love the hej då! at the end. 😁
Glad you enjoyed it!
Those Artek stools were my very first "house" purchase way back in 1985. They were SO expensive at a time when I needed almost everything for the house.... but several houses and apartments later, I still have them although used as side tables now. Quality wins every time. Maybe the version with a comfortable curved back would work for you...... and match the beautiful table.
I've been eying them so maybe!
I needed this - I had this mindset and veered off over the past few years. Great tips that I will be implementing.
Very happy if you found it useful!
Thanks for the great advice, I really appreciate it. Aww so sweet you and Bonus meditating, and matching colours. He’s adorable, such a loving relationship. ❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, my lovely friend, always watching and appreciating your work. Greetings from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤ I always say to myself when looking at all the stuff stores hold how much of that stuff will end at some charity shop or even landfills.
Yeah, that really needs to stop, right?

Such good tips! I love that you and Bonus meditate together! That store however would be so full of temptation for me! 🤩
It is to me too! I basically want one of each in there. Instead I pop in when I pass and just enjoy browsing and very rarely buy anything.
Great advice Benita.. Hope you find your perfect dining chairs one day soon. cheers..
I think I've narrowed it down to what I want so fingers crossed!
While watching this video an email notification came through from Ikea ... 'What's next for your home?' 🙂I look but do not spend unless it is absolutely necessary. Recently I have been looking at purchasing a wooden cutting board again, and doing away with the plastic as I believe they are not good for our health. I had always had wood in the past but when a son moved out of home he asked if he could have the wood one which was really a bit too big and heavy for me. When grocery shopping I go to a stand alone supermarket close to me and that way avoid the large shopping centre unless I am replacing items that have worn out.
Merci beaucoup Benita pour tous ces conseils que me seront très utiles.👌😊 J'aime beaucoup tes vidéos. 🥰Belle fin de journée et à bientôt😘 🌼🌷
So happy if you find them useful!
Merci pour pouvoir partager vos inspirations, chère madame Benita! J´en suis ravie... M.
I'm so happy you enjoyed it! Merci!
I always call items in my basket the consideration pile. 🤣👍🏻❤️
That's a great name for them!
Loved this video❤ can you make one on to do lists... I find them so useful to be organized and more mindful on what I want or already have ect
I already made that! You can watch it here: czcams.com/video/OIF7Scq6ijs/video.html
I love this topic because I can be very impulsive. Thank you for posting this
Thanks so much for watching!
I love your kitchen stool coverings. My small dinette set is hard as a rock and round like your chairs. I will keep my eye out for lil round mats like you did. I do make sure I am making conscious purchases the last year or so. Cutting down drastically and make more intentional purchases unless it was on my ‘to get’ list at a later date. 🇨🇦🙌🏾
You’re on the right path!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Wise
✏️ Leaving in basket and putting back works but also if you go to stores with an online presence, you can save it online and wait for enough coupons or discounts. Then purchase it based on your budget.
Dear Benita! What a beautiful frame you and Bonus meditating in the beginning of the video and at the end! I also can highly recommend Headspace using it since 2014, it was actually my lifesafer through rough times and I love the it❤️ it’s really worth the money! Your tips are again very useful, thank you so much! Have a good week and I hope spring is now coming to Sweden, Too! Cheers from Iris from southwest Germany! 🤗🤩🙋♀️🌷🪻🥰
So good to hear that it helped you so much! I’ve really enjoyed it so far!
@@BenitaLarsson I love the cute animation videos, they are lovingly done🤩
I love this idea. I notice that I shop when I am bored, stressed out, or emotional. I do most of what you mention on here. I started to create a wish list on the platforms that I shop at the most, so if someone wants to get the gift, they can just go to that website and order it from there. I am attempting a no spend month but with some expectations such as birthdays, etc... Thank you for sharing these tips. I also no longer settle for things just
because I need something.
Happy if the video is helpful to you!
Gracias por los consejos Benita algunos ya los sabemos pero nunca esta de más que nos los recuerden 😅 Un saludo desde España 🇪🇸🍀
Thanks so much for watching!
I take pics of things in stores and review the photos before leaving the store - having them in my shopping cart would be too much temptation, plus it saves the time of returning them. Sometimes I even enjoy seeing the items months later when scrolling through my photos! For me the main perk of saving money is the satisfaction of living within my means and enjoying a clean, minimalist home.
Taking photos sounds like a great way to curb the shopping bug!
Love this list! I’m working on not impulse buying something that is almost like what I really want
So glad you like the tips!
What perfect timing. My partner and I just moved into a new house and have been wanting certain pieces of furniture but can't afford them right now. Good reminder to wait and save for the pieces we really want. Thank you. ❤
Congrats on the move! Exciting times!
Great tips, I have a running food shopping list on my phone but to keep lists of other ideas is genius.
You made me smile when you said ‘keeping up with Jones’s’ My mum would say this all the time. I thought it was a quintessential English saying 😂😂
Have a great week 🌿
Haha, food shopping is the one list I still do on a pad!
Interesting! 👍🏻
Thanks so much for watching!
my tip is that I don't go into anything but thrift shops - however its becoming more and more difficult to find things at a reasonable price anymore because everyone has hopped on the "thrift for resale" bandwagon....if I stay out of full cost stores there is no temptation to buy,....and frankly I just don't want anything anymore....best thing of all
That’s a great strategy!
Great tips! One of my favorites is to pick up the item and put it in my cart and carry it around with me while I finish my shopping and, you’re right, nine out of 10 times I put it back realizing I don’t really need it.
So glad you also feel it works!
I like to use a Fiskars kitchen scissors to cut pizza into smaller diamond shapes. I don't have to remove it from the pizza pan and less chance of pizza burn when the first bite isn't from the center of a large slice.
I’ve aksoy used scissors! Works well!
I absolutely love each and every one of your videos. Wondering if you could tell me what IRL is in your latest video. Thank you.
It means In Real Life!
@@BenitaLarsson Thank you, Benita.
These are great tips for a fantastic question.
I have wondered why you stopped using the white chairs you had at your dining table at your last house (not the prior apartment, I think you'd already eschewed them by then). Did you decide your needs changed, or were they a rushed purchase you changed your mind on?
Those chairs were really heavy and also the white was a very cold white so when I decided to move and had other things being picked up I thought it was a good time to part with them. I knew just could use the stools.
I cut my pizza with my scissors😂
I've done that too! 🤣✂️🍕
I appreciate this topic something I can struggle with but trying to improve- I do find that I will put items in my cart and they will sit there for several days or even a week and I can decide if I really need them or if I can find the item at a lower price somewhere else. I do make sure I can fully return and get a refund if the item does not work for me when received.
Yes, checking return policy is important!
Ha, the ad at the start was YSL. Luckily I don’t like high end designer gear. Both of you looking fine 😊.
Haha, I never know what will pop up there but that's pretty funny!
I do have a weakness for my "potions and lotions" I get so overwhelmed visually when I go into a makeup/skincare store, I end up spending way more time there and impulse because of confusion. Tt's actually less overwhelming to target-browse online than in store.
Meant to ask - why didn’t you keep the Emeco (?silver ones) chairs you had in your previous apartment?
They were really heavy and a cool white so when I decided to move and had a company come to take other things to sell, I decided they should go as well.
Hello, you mentioned not do budget, can you make a video about this topic? Thank you and greetings from Prague😊
Since I don’t budget it would be a difficult one to make so I probably won’t 😅
I understand:) ...just a tip for you, because a lot of minimalist make this type of videos (but from the opposite side of "how important to make a budget"). And for us - your followers - this sight about "no budgeting" might be interesting. So I'll hope you change your mind🍀
Something I always do when shopping in store is ask myself, “If there is a massive queue at the checkout will I wait to buy this?” Usually the answer is no so even if there isn’t a queue I saved myself the purchase.
I love that question!
12:05 😻
I know you are not yourself so interested in colour but there were lovely colours in the shop where you picked up the blanket. Green majolica style leaf bowl and the glowing navy/royal blue of a blanket and soft but vivid apple green of a jug. I wish we had that shop here. On the other hand, I suppose I'm enjoying them without owning them - as you say! 😊 PS Your beanie and sunnies look is very cool.
Haha, yes! And I love everything in that shop, colors and all, but I would tire if them if I had them around me 24/7. I prefer to add color with fresh flowers once in a while😅
I used to be an impulse buyer years ago, not anymore. For ex. I have a couch at home that's pretty old and a little bit loose on the armrests but I'm not gonna get another one any time soon. First cause the couch I'm looking for it's really pricey and should order it from abroad, second I'm not even sure I'll ever have another one when I get rid of this one. My goal is to have close to no furniture in the future.
There's a bunch of things I should replace at home but I simply don't wanna do it as long as they're not destroyed and are still functional. Same goes for clothing, shoes, and everything else. I really don't care about what other people think, I love not owning stuff and enjoy what I already "have", even if old and discoloured.
Stuff is just stuff, not worth the hustle and the stress 😊
If I am undecided, I will ask myself if someone offered me $30 (price of item) for this, would I sell it to them? I need to think if I really want this item and not that I just like it. It helps put true value on the item I am debating over.
Hi Benita, has your morning routine changed since you moved to this apartment? I remember your video from 2022. Also how is the heating/cooling in your apartment compared to your previous place? Thanks
Stay tuned for the next video! This apartment is cooler but I’m never cold.
❤
That is the reasin I like doing as personal assistance to my partner or my sister. I fulfill my "need" of buying, I help them and I do not spend my money 😅
Haha, I also shop for others occasionally 😆
I delay Amazon purchases by putting the item on a wishlist. When a few days or longer have passed often the impulse to buy has worn off and you can review your urge or need to buy the item.
That’s a great strategy!
