  • Why did Fujifilm make the X-S10, and who did they make it for? I'll talk about that in my review of what might be the least "Fuji-esque" X-Series camera from Fujifilm.

    Why is it not for professional users ? 10 years ago a lot of people were still shooting with a Canon 5D MK II which is much "worse" compared to the XS-10. It has more Megapxiels, better low light performance (even as an aps-c) better video resolution, faster shutter, better autofocus, almost everything on this camra is superior compared to an old canon 5D mark II. Just not waether seaked and not being full-frame are the only downsides to this camera.

    • @SebastianDavidPB
      @SebastianDavidPB Před rokem +2

      For professional work there are some drawbacks. No dual card slots means if the card gets corrupted you'll be screwed, no weather sealing means no shooting in bad weather, the 8bit 4k internal recording will give you limited editing capabilities in post... The XT5 is out now so the price should drop on the XT4 which is better in my opinion and has the same exact sensor as the XS10

    • @Baumtaler
      @Baumtaler Před 11 měsíci +2

      @@SebastianDavidPB youre facts are correct, but a 5D MK II could only film in 1080p 30 fps and had only 1 cf card slot aswell. But yeah xt4 and xt5 are better expecially the weather sealing part..

    Pretty nice video!
    Just one addition: The unlabeled dials, the pop-up mechanism, the discrete record buttons and many more can also be found on the X-T100 and X-T200. These don't have the X-Trans sensor though. So I see the X-S10 as a combination of higher-end features with the modern user interface so far only available on the lower-end models.

      @GraysonCarr Před 3 lety +1

      Too bad they didn't include the larger, higher resolution screen from the X-T200. It's a bit odd that it has the best screen on any Fuji camera even though it's an entry level model.

    For travel photography!!! I have an X-H1, excellent camera that stays home most of the time since I got x-s10. I completely customized x-s10, so now both blank dials do the same thing as traditional fujifilm layout. Learning curve was fast and easy. But paired with incredible small, light and sharp Sigma 18-50mm my setup is light, unbelievably light. When travel, this set in a small bag is a huge relief on my shoulders. More fun, more pictures. Absolutely no complaints on quality.

    I've been watching and reading reviews for 3 days straight now and I think I'll go for it. In germany the X-S10 goes for 1299€ in the kit with the 18-55mm objective which is supposed to be pretty good and should suit my needs quite well. Such a pain in the A figuring out what to buy at a certain price point, at least in the camera market things don't move nearly as fast as in other tech segments.

    Thanks for the review. Even as an amateur I would prefer the layout of the X-T4. I like and use the X-A7 enough though. I haven't used a viewfinder in many years due to macular degeneration of my right eye. I preordered the X-S10 for use specifally with my Rokinon 12 and 35mm manual focus lenses, and, of course, expanded film simulations and IBIS. These qualities, along with the relatively small size of the Rokinon lenses, trump control layout. I expect to use the Acros sim to great effect.

    Hello ^^. Nice presentation, but you failed to mention a number of features this camera has, in order to keep the video short, I understand. I hope this will help people who still have doubts about the X-S10.
    - First of all, X-S10 can shoot bursts up to 20fps (without cropping) with the electronic shutter and up to 30fps with the same shutter type, albeit with 1.25x crop. Mechanical shutter is limited to 8fps, like you said.
    - Only few dedicated buttons and dials exist on the camera. Appart from the exposure compensation dial, most other buttons can be remaped to do almost anything you'd like them to do, nevermind the markings. For example, top left dial can be set to change the ISO (which is what I personally prefer) or a number of things. ISO, AEL, AF ON, EVF and record button can also be remaped.
    - IBIS system inside this camera can do 6 stops of image stabilization.
    - There's a diopter wheel on the EVF, so you can set it to your liking.
    - The grip is deep and comfy enough for the camera not to feel too dwarfed by larger lenses. If so, I'd recommend an L shaped grip, which will help in that regard. They're cheap and can provide some additional leverage.
    Just some additional info from a Fuji user.
    Fuji models like X-T1, X-T100, X-T200, X-A5 and X-A10 also have a record button. There are few others, but none come to mind atm.

    I can operate this camera with a single hand. I saw you taking pictures with the XT4 and having to move your eye off the EVF to adjust shutter speed and ISO. I can operate the XS10 way faster than my friend's XT3. The tradicional DSLR configuration is designed for speed, I don't think that Fuji's more analogue configuration is more "pro", I find it more enjoyable, but pro cameras use the standard dslr layout in which like the XS10 all the main parameters can be adjusted without taking your eye off the EVF.

  • @anstef1485
    @anstef1485 Před 3 lety +2

    My friend, you nailed it.
    I am a non professional advanced photographer and what attracted me to the X-S10 is exactly the fact that I can get great IQ, the film simulations, etc. but do not need super speed, double card redundancy, mega battery life, etc. In fact I have those in my M43 G9... but want to enter the innovative Fujifilm system.
    Before M43, I have been burned in the past by Canon, its cameras with planned obsolescence and bodies with a "castrated" feature set; no more. With Fuji, I will be able to use my Canon mount lenses on a great APS-C sensor.

    That camera looks so similar to a Nikon Z50. Loved the Z50 (specially the ergonomics/grip) but there are no Z DX lenses. So the Fuji would be the better choice for beginners.
    Also the IBIS is an advantage.
    I bought a X-H1 instead of the Z50, I think the X-S10 would be a little bit too small for the 16-80 and 55-200 lens.

    • @romvil
      @romvil Před 3 lety +4

      I have the XF18-55 f2.8-4 paired with an X-T200. Quite a step up from the XC15-45. Definitely "elevated" the X-T200.
      The XF18-55 f2.8-4 is not weather sealed and the lens extends when zooming so it could be troublesome with gimbal use. Love the f2.8 aperture though so that would be the one thing I'd miss compared to the XF16-80 f4. I have a Sony A6400 with the SEL18105 f4 lens (does not extend when zooming). I prefer the XF18-55 primarily because images appear sharper and it has the higher aperture.
      I only wish Fuji has Sony's Clear Image Zoom - that way I can zoom even with a prime lens (with minimal degradation - can't tell unless you pixel-peep). With this feature, I can double the telephoto reach of any lens.

      Hey, I’m in the exact same dilemma as you. I have done my research & people have recommended me to go for the 16-80mm simply because it gives better versatility. First it’s weather resistant, it has a more wide angle, more telephoto, “better” stabilization, they say its a better lense overall. The only con may be the low light performance but they say it’s not bad either. Tbh I’m more inclined to getting it with the 16-80 bc the 3 people that I’ve asked (CZcams camera reviewers) have all recommended me the 16-80. Also I have to mention my priority is video shooting.

    • @CheapCharlieChronicles

      @@calebweaver7110 that is interesting on the Fuji spec sheet for the Xt3 it says 200 mbs for 1080p 60 frames per second and 30 frames per second. This is my most important factor in buying this camera as I want a strong bit rate 1080p as most cameras on the market offer very poor 1080p (50 mbs or less). 100 mbs a second would be acceptable however or I could just buy the Xt3 which is the same price.

      Shorter focal lengths will have more depth of field because the aperture opening will have lesser diameter, meaning lesser divergence of the rays falling on the sensor.

      I thought Olympus had died somewhere, haven't heard from them in a while, no seems to even consider them as any sort of valid option in 2020, back in the day when I was getting my X-T1 I was choosing between Olympus and Fuji, but these days it seems to be a no brainer.

    • @honestview
      @honestview Před 3 lety

      By the way, Olympus sold it's company to "Japan Industrial Partners" because they couldn't crack it anymore, let's see if this new ownership can revive the dying company, but I wouldn't bet on it. besides Fuji often releases some amazing firmware updates which make your camera better over time. doubt that will happen with Olympus.
      And finally: The X-T4 is a fliping Amazing camera!!! I wouldn't change it for anything on the market at the moment.

    This is the first Fuji that I have considered buying. Fuji made this for me. I have always respected what Fuji did but unlike many Fuji owners I don't want a relic hanging from my neck. No offense Fujistas! Fuji knows what they're doing and they know they're basically in last place for market share. They need to reach outside of their very narrow range of customers. That is what this is. Now I hope they make a chopped down compact version much in the same vein as the Canon M6 but since the mount flange size is smaller it could in theory be smaller than the M6 Mark II. I'd buy that.

      the xt3 doesn't have IBIS (in body image stabilization). on the flagship models the IBIS only started from the xt4 onwards. The Xs 10 has the IBIS. And that's makes a hugeeeee difference. IBIS is a must have to nail photos that would otherwise be blurred.

This is one of the most helpful videos I have seen so far, but id like to ask if you'd recommend this specifically for travel vlogging. I like bright colors, good stabilization, decent wide frame, and auto-focus. I am in between Fuji Xs10 or Sony ZV-E10 . HELP :(
