One Thousand Cranes was written by Robert Sheldon in honour of Charlie Quarmby, a mentor, friend and teacher to Sheldon and other band directors in Florida. According to an ancient Japanese legend, folding 1,000 origami cranes will make your wish come true. This piece was conducted by Evan Penn and performed by Durham University Concert Band at their 40th Anniversary Celebration concert, on the 8th of March at Durham Town Hall.
