Everyone in this episode had tremendous on screen chemistry.
Totally agree, it was marvelous ❤️
Tedious chemistry
Thank you, Ren. I knew I wasn't crazy. My first thought upon seeing UNIT headquarters..."That's Avengers Tower."
I'm glad I'm not the only one 😅
Kate was asking the president of Earth for permission to fire the Canon
Honestly, I completely forgot he's the president of earth 🤣🌎
@renrants many people do to lol
Neil Patrick Harris was fantastic every interaction with everyone was great
He's such a tour de force, just a joy to have on screen
I felt the set up of the UNIT HQ, meeting the staff, Donna being offered a job was all a prelude to a spinoff, without Tenant but Donna and Mel for sure, and Donna's daughter. It's similar to how RTD set up Rose and her family in the first season. It worked well. It is the Whoniverse now, after all.
I kind of hope so, I wanna see more of her 🥺
I do love the fact that the Toymaker won't cheat at a game.
Yeah that's an interesting place for a murderer to draw the line 😅
Ah, the Christmas special. To kinda quote the last Buffer Time...🎵I'm ready🎵
I'm so excited!
7:16 The Doctor is President of Earth during times of crisis. This was established in the 12th Doctor's era.
This was absolutely my favorite of the three. NPH and Ncuti were phenomenal and i really want to see NPH again.
I also love how RTD wrote himself a blank check to keep as well as discard any of Chibnall's stuff that he might want. The Toymaker "making a jigsaw of the Doctor's history" is a great way to explain away the worst inconsistencies inflicted on us by the Timeless Child, and even the 8th doctor being "half-human", without simply pretending it never happened!
Yeah, it was honestly brilliant! It really does give the writers so many options in terms of which direction to go
blank check to destroy all that was good
@@renrants
That could be one hell of an anniversary special. Theres such comedy potential in looking at the convoluted history and figuring out what is/isn’t true.
NPH seems to have been typecast as "wacky with an edge."
He does it so well though 😅🤣
THAT'S TOTALLY MATT SMITH'S FACE ON THE KING OF HEARTS!!!
I thought it was the Toymaker but it honestly resembles either of them 😅
If Tennant had gone out on "Allons-y"...yes, a bit cheesy. But I might've cried.
Omg that would have been so good 😭😭
I loved all of the specials so much, felt like a classic return to form in a beautiful way. Ncuti Gatwa solidified his performance as The Doctor and captured his own essence and vibe while remaining true to himself and his new incarnation. Crazy it wasn't even a full episode of Ncuti and it already feels like "Doctor Who" again, and without pants no less! The future is bright indeed!
One question though, since when was Davros ever being viewed as a wheelchair user? I thought the point of his evil nature was that he was a mad scientist who experimented on himself as well as The Daleks who hated their own true form? Davros hated his fleshy body, and he found comfort in beind part cyborg as it related him to his Dalek robot creations. As for the TARDIS finally being wheehchair accessable though? ABOUT TIME! That behind the scenes look nearly made me almost cry the first time I saw it. So happy for the future of Doctor Who and the many new fans it'll bring in with levels of inclusion like that. 💛
I typed a response but it looks like it didn't post
Totally agree the specials were wonderful! They really exceeded my expectations.
With Davros, while he isn't explicitly a wheelchair user, it's more that his support unit resembles one, in combination with his facial scarring and seeming lack of mobility, it's more about the optics than how the character is written, if that makes sense.
I also got emotional about the accessible Tardis design, it made me so, so happy
such drivel
@@renrants much love!!! 💛🫶🏻💛
Back at you! ❤️🥺
Hey, a couple Doctors ago, the Doctor became President of Earth. Maybe that statute still stands.
(Also, saying "a couple Doctors ago" is very funny to me.)
I totally forgot about that 😅
Also his speal about how the human race is, would be 13s personal beliefs on humans they are awesome but also can be the monsters. Shows how 10 and 14 are very different characters.
But of course the Toymaker couldn't reference Tennant's companions...because they all SURVIVED.
True 🤣 it's wild what a spate of dead companions we had for awhile there
My issue with bigeneration is it’s either pointless (they ignore tenant and continue with Ncuti) or a distraction (they split time between the two)
Yes other doctors can come back because timey wimey but they’re not the “current” doctor. We now have two current doctors.
This isn’t a problem but I love the thought that there is a point in time where the human race GB in particular is bombarded with subliminal laughs from the Toymaker and the Masters drum
Edit: the only thing I have an actual problem with is the duplication of the Tardis. Sure bigeneration fine regeneration can do weird stuff. But smacking an extra Tardis into existence is fanfiction nonsense
I was worried about Tennant overshadowing Gatwa, but it seems like his doctor is completely retired, so we are just going to continue with Fifteen.
I agree the extra Tardis was a little silly, but it's not the first time there have been new Tardises for a character so I'm mostly okay with it and the explanation they gave was passable, imo
Nautical gatwa will be awesome
Those first few minutes blew me away.
@@renrants same
I can’t wait for more from Russel t davis
Me too, he really knows how to write the show so perfectly
Love me some NPH.
He's such a delight! And so much fun here, he was born for roles like these
Loved this episode... even though I had bigger issues with it than the 2nd.... well, maybe more like things I didn't fully buy into!
I love NPH and he did an amazing job on the character! He just felt out of place for me on Doctor Who, don't know why, other than being an American actor... my issue alone, need to get over that and take a more global view!
Really, cut the deck and ball are the games? I'm into modern hobby board games... there's lots of other choices... however, I suppose at least they didn't go with mass market game and cut and especially ball were done in a Doctor Whovian appropriate way, I thought.
Bi-generation... didn't really do it for me, but I'll gladly sit back and enjoy for what it is and what it can become as the franchise evolves!
I really like the introduction of Ncuti Gatwah! Enjoyed his character in Sex Education and look forward to his portrayal of the 15th Doctor! I've never been more excited for a new Doctor than I was for Jodi Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwah! Loved the dalek 13th Doctor Christmas special, look forward to the 15th Doctor Christmas special!
Thanks for the video!
I'm so excited for Christmas! Those first few minutes with the Fifteenth Doctor were marvelous, such a wonderful introduction!
@@renrants Oh, and the possibilities for a UNIT spinoff some people have talked about, with the 14th Doctor maybe(?), is pretty cool to think of too!
How did i not find your page sooner?
Glad you found it now :)
3;08 Wilf is Wilfred Mott, I guess. The health issues mentioned clued me.
Yes indeed. What a darling old man 😭
Neil Patrick Harris nailed it. Every time he was on screen the other characters fell to the background.
He was such a joy to watch!
The bizarre fake German accent absolutely killed me, it was so silly but juxtaposed so well with his scarier moments
The clips seem to show people often speaking as if the words were shot from their mouths. More dramatic than heart felt. Thank you for an interesting review. There is an interesting Chinese drama. The Hope. Brilliant unconventional teacher bargains to establish a special class of 5 students that he and a co-teacher will get into the top university in China.. Thank you. See you on the next two reviews. Been busy, sorry.
Thank you for your kind words!
That sounds interesting for sure
That "WELL THAT'S ALRIGHT THEN!" meme is already getting overdone on Facebook, thank you Star Trek Sh*tposting...
I still love it though, haha 🤣🤣
Seriously, who's reviving the Master?
I gots to know!!
Someone with red fingernail polish.
You're very perceptive! You picked up on plenty that I never noticed.
Thank you! I definitely had to watch through a couple times and there's still so much more I wish I'd talked about, it's such a detailed show!
Will 14 live to see his companions grow old and wither? That would be very sad as he lets go of the last one.
Oh that's true 🥺 but he'll also get all those years with them too
I don't mind the bi-generation, however I was a bit more "concerned" when I saw the comments from RTD behind the scenes about ALL Doctors still existing to some extent. I have several explanations in my head that work for me. I'm fine with it all, but it will all come down to the follow-up and execution.
Yes. Too much galactic or universe ending stuff in...well all sci-fi currently TBH. Star Trek needs to cut it out too. Haha
Yeah, I just don't love big action plots in general and it's such a frustrating trend in scifi
I do wonder what hell do with this new lore, it could either the super fun, or go horribly off the rails 😂
I hated the change in regeneration so I gave it a 7 out of 10. :) But the revamped Toymaker is a wonderful villain! I'm sure everyone needs to go back to the Spice Girls segment and watch it again. I of course loved seeing Mel. She was so cute in her time as a companion back in classic Doctor Who. I'm not sure but I still like Star Beast the best. The family time at the end of The Giggle was nice. Who was the female with the red fingernails who picked up the gold tooth? I'll give the Christmas Special a fair shot but I have doubts that I'll like it. There's also Percy Jackson coming out of Disney plus and What If season 2 also On Disney plus.
I'm personally extremely excited, especially after rewatching the episodes I grew up with
It feels fresh again, and like a bit of a return of the whimsy without as much of the stuff that bogged down Moffat and Chibnall's writing
If we look at this bigeneration as a one off made possible by the toymaker's involvement in the regeneration process - which is more or less stated "you did this" - then I am ok with it. But if it happens again outside of this very unique plot contrivance (which feels earned based on the Toymaker's place in the lore and obvious overpowered villian status) then I feel like will have lost some of the core idenity of the show. When it is Ncuti's time to regenerate, he needs to say goodbye and make way. But to have the rehab therapy concurrently going on while Tennant's doc takes the time to heal and process via timey wimey goodness - I am strangely ok with it.
Yeah, I wouldn't want it every time and I'm both tentatively excited and a little leery of the idea of older doctors popping up all over the place, because it could definitely go horribly awry
Here I thought it was really beautiful though, and the scenes with Gatwa and Tennant together were some of my favorites in the specials overall
transgeneration uggh
@@techniqueswithtodd you just revealed a lot more about yourself than you did about the show.
Here is a full review with an episode summary of Dr Who The Giggle episode: czcams.com/video/rKsKG5ivQuk/video.htmlsi=UCd9x-OZlZRDHwTp
That's what this video is though 😅
Such a crap ep. The 50th was so great and this is what we get for 60th? Panderverse? uggh. Lame.
I mean the 50th was also great (I think I reviewed it positively on this channel at some point,) but that one also pandered a whole bunch to nostalgia etc.
the big specials are supposed to pander to nostalgia though, that's the point? They are meant to bring decades of lore/story together. sadly, the 60th barely did any of that at all. Remember how funny both doctors were in the 50th? The dialogue was amazing, the script was top notch it managed to be funny and have great narrative impact all at once. Then we get the toy maker losing a game of catch? That's the end of the big bad? What a huge let down. Having both doctors on screen like the 50th is tough to be beat for sure. I just had such high hopes for this and it just fell so flat. :( @@renrants
I agree the Toymaker ultimately ended up being anti climactic, but it was still a beautiful culmination to a version of Tennant's doctor that I found quite moving, even if the overall episode was rough around the edges
This special was absolute a masterclass........
In garbage writing.
Totally disagree, but to each their own.
@@renrants well it was garbage writing russell t davies made the doctor a joke in his own special meant to be a celebration instead of defamation
I simply don't see it that way, the quality of the writing is a matter of opinion. Personally I thought it was a wonderful way to revisit Donna and Tennant's Doctor while introducing us to Gatwa's Doctor and giving Davies flexibility to pick and choose what he wants to keep from Chibnall and Moffat's eras where the lore has gotten quite bogged down.
@@renrants yeah but all he did was add even more confusing lore between clear woke propaganda and racism
