I bought the MS261-CM (20” bar) last year and have been quite happy with its performance. The 20” bar is perhaps a bit large for the 50cc engine, but otherwise it’s been a dream to use. And at 10.8 lbs is manageable to use all day. I went with this because of both weight and price. The 362 and 462 I’m sure are great, but if you’re on a budget the 261 CM is a solid choice (IMHO). Thanks for the great vid Mike, as always!

I'm torn between the MS 261 (18" bar) and the MS 362 (20" bar) for an acreage saw.

I use the 261 for clearing trees from the river with the 20 inch bar. Its a GREAT saw especially at 4hp at ten pounds. Its great for maneuvering and all day use. I got a 662cm and its great with the 36 and 32 inch bar but it is HEAVY and wears you out quickly. Especially on small stuff where a small saw is better.

Back when I used to do tree work, no one liked using the big saws. Weight is a huge issue as most of the day is spent with the saw in weird positions. You are almost never in a perfect squared off cutting position cutting rounds. Everyone fought over who got to use the 260s leaving the 460 sitting 99 percent of the time. Just some food for thought if you are considering any one of the pro saws.🙂 Great test btw👍

Mike....As always great job. Where the MS462 will eat the MS362's lunch is with 24" and up bars in big wood. I have a tuned (stops removed) 362 and a tuned 441. I have a hard time bogging the 441 with a 28" bar and full skip chain where I can bog the 362 with a 24" bar and full skip chain. As most will tell you (and it is true in cars also) there is no substitute for displacement all other things being equal. Send that 362 to Jack Beeler /Tree Monkey/Mastermind for their saw magic and watch it eat the stock 462 with a 28" bar! Keep the great videos coming. They are fun to watch and educational!!

I do a bit of trimming and felling on the side for people mostly residential stuff, but on occasion I’ve done some area clearing in forest land with some large specimens. I’ve been looking at a 462. Would it be worth it to look at 661?

Going on my 44th year in the woods running saws ,heating my home with wood etc. I've ran many ,many different saws over the years and owned a few along the way too. Last September I was able through my stihl dealer who is also a buddy of mine to get my hands on the only 500i in the area. May be more here now but if there is I havent seen or heard of any yet around here but I love mine. But out of all the saws I've ran the 362 is not much to brag on. Power to weight ratio isnt good it's not impressive at all in my book. That 462 though that's a nice machine.

Anyone that knows me, knows I'm a super bike guy. The crap Remington chainsaw I've been managing with for the past couple years is like riding and maintaining a 1979 HD (always a rough ride and always tools in the back pocket).
As soon as I started my new ms462, The first thought in my mind was, Damn I got me a Suzuki GSXR 1000 (It doesn't get any better than that).

Yes they do. A CZcams video compared a MS261 CM to a MS362CM. Both made two cuts on a large log and surprising they both averaged 14.3 secs./cut. Then both made 4 cuts on a smaller log and the 261CM averaged 10.7 secs./cut while the 362CM averaged 10.8.
      /cut.
That being said, one could assume that the MS 261CM should be faster than a regular carbed (non M-Tronic) MS 362.

@@haidenpeters1523 I heard that too. Might hold out for a 461 since I heard the price will also be dropping on them as well. Picked up a new Stihl catalog yesterday and the 461, 441 are not in it.

@@cumminstbd05 I'm not a huge fan of first year releases anyway. I've been waiting a couple years to get my hands on a 441. Love it

A 462 powerhead only will cost a grand. Then buy a Sugi Hara or Tsumura 25" light weight bar, either at about $90. Perfect balance, just perfect.

gt350 vs gt500 would be more analogous. Also the 462's $400 premium over the 362 makes the choice easier for some.

Lucky Saturday . 2 videos in 1 day . These kind of videos are good in comparing chain saws . Great for the person who's looking to up grade or get their first saw . How would anyone know what kind or size of saw to get with so many types and models on the market today .Many people say " I already have a good saw to use ". Well that's fine but not everyone is in that position . Now for the people that are saying Oh no another commercial . I don't look at it this way . It's called informing the public in helping a person in making a decision . Now if another manufacture is willing to spend the money and send Mike a few saws to try out he just might say yes to that and show case them in his videos . It's not as if he's showing a $200 bushcraft knife or flashlight which to me are a complete waste of money . Great video Mike . Not really a car guy . You can only go so fast on the highway . I'll take a big Dodge Ram with a 6.7 liter Cummins engine . I love trucks . LOL .

Hey Mike can you get ypur hands on a 261 CM? To do a test a side-by-side comparison with the 261 CM against a 362.

    • @ComfyBe
      @ComfyBe Před 5 lety

I've got a 261CM, and was told it's the 462CM's little brother (50.2cc, but same technology) I haven't used it yet, but seen a video on CZcams that compared it to a 362CM. Both made two cuts on the same log and surprising they both averaged 14.3 secs. Then both made 4 cuts on a smaller log and the 261CM averaged 10.7 secs. while the 362CM averaged 10.8.
That being said, one would assume that the MS 261CM should beat the carbed (non M-tronic) MS 362.
