Hi, I'm watching #619 on my TV. You just put corrected header up and Melissa has biked out with her new gloves, and you just confessed to the new nail gun. Melissa is on the steps, holding the other end of the siding board, the camera right on her, I was admiring, you somehow knew what I was thinking because you said, "how's your end look?" I laughed and said out loud, "pretty darn good, Mike!" You are blessed in so many ways, having a beautiful, loving, helpful wife is one of them! Having such a healthy body with a beautiful shape after carrying and giving birth 4 times is amazing! I'm just going back, watching your older videos. Enjoying each one all over again! Thanks for sharing!❤

Mike, You're so good at giving us tricks and tips I'd like to give you one. When you open a gallon of bar oil, leave the foil seal on and take the screwdriver end of you chain saw wrench and just punch a hole in the edge away from the handle. Then you can position the smaller hole over your filler hole and just squeeze it in. You have more control over filling your oil and it won't make a mess.

    • @obxkoastie8170
      @obxkoastie8170 Před 5 lety

HR Shaw....I was taught that "trick" years ago and it really does make filling a saw's oil tank much easier and a whole lot less messy! Works even better with Echo/Husky bottles of oil. The square Stihl are a little harder to squeeze. Hope more people read your post!

@@obxkoastie8170 Thanks, I used to work for Asplundh Tree and the deck on the crane was steel so if you spilled any oil on the deck it was very slippery. That's where I was schooled in the art of filling a saw with no overfills.

We just had a new record set for the wettest February in Tn., broke the old 1890 record for over 12.5 inches... Locally we had 14 inches of rain the past 7 days, 11 inches of that 14 in just the past 48 hours in 2 waves with a 10 break in between down pours... Luckily the creek in behind the house handled it and no major flooding, so Thank You for the "good luck" wishes 2 vids back.... But the rain this winter down this way has been "Maddening", driving folks crazy. We all are soooo ready for some sun and DRY weather.... Had the same thing happen to me about 15 years ago with an Owl 'fly by' while up in a tree stand, could've reach up and touched him, no squirrel, but the erie, low hum sound of the wind over it's wings while gliding by is a sound I'll never forget. That's how close of an encounter it was. Starteld the crap out of me, but Very Cool stuff indeed.👍

Mike just watched your video after spending the day cutting firewood on my property and im totally exhausted but found it quite relaxing watching you work. I cut down the largest tree I've ever cut today. It was a dead standing stringy bark 68 metres tall and 1.7 metres diameter at the bottom . Used my Stihl ms311 with 20 inch bar. Blocked it up to 170 rounds with 5 tanks of fuel and 3 sharpens of the chain. Will begin to split it up tomorrow with the hydraulic splitter. We also have owls on the property and I lay in bed some nights with the window open and listen to the Boobook owls talking to each other and drift off to sleep. Looking forward to see what that splitter can do in an hour.

From my perspective, that looks like exceptionally great weather! You're out in the woods with a 4 wheeled machine, you can walk around, cut just about anything you want...lets see how you fare with snow right up to your port hole; and I'm not talking about the one on your chainsaw! An owl landed on a branch right above my head one time and took right off again so I know what prey hears just before it's lights out. It's pretty noisy actually but if you hear one, it's probably too late! It was at least as big as a bald eagle too.

We have a family of Screech Owls nearby and always enjoy hearing them hooting. Back when I was 16 I was deer hunting in the Big Thicket in East Texas. The night before my Dad and his buddy had been telling me stories about Bigfoot. The next morning I was about 30 feet up in a deer stand. I hear something crashing through the branches coming right at me. I turned my head just in time to see a Great Horned Owl land on a branch right beside me. Their wings are so quiet you don't even hear them flapping.

  • @thebradleysoncatbirdhill6849

    Mike:
Those are likely great horned owls. We have a pair that have been on our property for quite a while now. Once they pair up, their typical territory is about a square mile. So, they are helping to keep the rodents down in your woods! Beautiful birds, and so critical in the food chain. Most consider them the most fearless Hunter of anything with wings! Nice job on the woodcutting. Can't wait to see what that splitter will do with three people. Have a great weekend.

Those owls aren't dumb....they know every time you're in the woods with tractors or cutting up wood, there's going to be easy dinner pickin's. Squirrels, mice, chipmunks.....you name it.... will all be beating feet and those owls move in and wait for the buffet to come to them. Where I live, there are thousands of buzzards....sometimes a hundred or so hanging out in a single tree or close trees. No matter where you are, if you fire a gun, there WILL be a couple buzzards show up within minutes. They know the sound of a gunshot will likely lead to an easy gut pile, a dead armadillo, or something similar.

That saw really made firewood quick. Aah the joy of a sharp chain. I was in a tree stand once and noticed a hawk in a tree about 50 yds away. Suddenly it was nearly in my face. I ducked and it flew back to its tree. If I had not moved it may have landed on my shoulder or possibly my head. I have also had tweety birds land on my bow and once one land on my shoulder. I guess my military BDUs were working pretty good. Did you have any trouble getting back up the hill with the load. I noticed you were slipping around a little getting in there.

Since we only got to see the new ms 462 in one video, what's your final thoughts on it?

What did you use to mark the log? That works pretty slick.

AD...We also cut 16" lengths. What I've done is mark my bar with black permanent marker (paint marker would also work) 16" from the lower tip of my spikes and then just lay the bar with the spike tip at the cut and sight down the line on the bar for my next cut. It is always with me, cost nothing, and is extremely accurate. Just have to touch it up occasionally.

Love the video's and the owls are great. Do you know the type of owls in your area as we have Barn owls and Screech out here in Colorado!! Enjoy your weekend!

We have Barn Owls here, however the ones hooting in this video were two big Great Horned Owls, they get real big. Some over 4.5' wingspan

Hey Mike , love your vids but I am curious, where do you get your music from? You seem to have a knack for the perfect music to overlay in your videos. Are these groups you know of or is there a site for overlay music you use?

Several online sources like epidemic sound is one of them, I pay a monthly fee for it and it's copyright free music to use

I'm sure there must be a good reason.
Why do you put your Stihl in the scabbard in a way that appears to be upside down?

Have you considered heating your house with wood, seems like it would be a win win

Hey Mike, can you please tell me what the name is of the pouring spout on your fuel tank. I'm not sure if we have them here in Australia.
