Bang on . These are brilliant, i have one for home and when im being a bivvy tramp / carp feeder lol. Can store these canisters alot easier i think than the shorter fatter gas bottles
I agree. Great way to cook and boil water when the grid is down. Here in NZ we were hit by a cyclone on valentines day last year. We were without power for 7 days and no flush toilet for 10 days. Fortunately, we were well prepped with 3 of those camping stoves and lots of butane canisters, a composting toilet and a good emergency lighting system. We already had food and drinking water stocked so never really suffered at all. We were lucky though as there were some areas where flood water was over the roof of houses - 11 lives lost. Some homes, farms and orchards are still in disrepair. On the bright side it was a good test of our preps and showed us where any holes in our preps were. The biggest issue was not knowing what was going on in the outside world. No cellphone coverage, no power, no internet. The only news was via a wind-up radio. My group now has a network of UHF radios to keep in contact with. Lesson learned.
Only really scary stove fire I've had was one of these. There's no way to check that canister is really sealed to the stove and it's right next to the flame... Cheaply made as well. That's what happened, a small canister top leak ignited, causing a fire around the gas canister. Fortunately it happened in the open and I hit the canister release before running away, so it didn't explode. After that I'm a big Kelly Kettle fan, solid fuel won't blow up and you can get it in any hedge. Can't use those indoors though, so for that I really prefer something with a standard screw thread and valve, preferably with a pipe to place the gas away from the flame. Currently it's a Primus Omni fuel, more expensive and about as heavy but the ability to use kerosene (heating oil) or gasoline as well as gas could come in handy if the S should H the F.
That's insane about the stove fire touch wood in five years no problems but I guess you can never say never 👍 Now I'm personally not a fan of Kelly kettle I gave mine away now I get what your saying about getting a connected by hose one would obviously be better quality so agree there I also have small gas camping stoves with the foldaway head which are pretty neat but yes thanks for your comments and watching appreciated 👌
had one of these for near on 20 years, still going strong, family camping doesn't happen much these days so I keep it in the kitchen for when the power goes
You can get a 4 pack of the gas cannisters from Home Bargains for about £4.59 at the moment, they are normally around £9.99. I have two of these stoves as my village is prone to power cuts so I can cook and boil a kettle. I have a kelly kettle and also a trangia set. Can never have too many ways to cook.
Ya can get a gas leak detection spray that makes bubbles at the site of leaks, I use it to check connections on hoses on stoves with remote feed, anything from the simple knock-off msr boilers to tabletop duel hob and grill stoves, I fitted a coleman thread regulator to my twin hob as its easier for me to get the C500 canisters instead of 7kg butane bottles
They work okay for me, even use a camp stove heater attachment if it's cold in my flat during power failure (know how to connect a small power station to my gas combi boiler to keep it running but might draw attention like the one house with lights on in a blackout)
