Anyone else like to curl up on the sofa with the puppy on Sunday afternoon and binge watch Jennifer Maker videos? Great way to plan my crafting time for the week.
Yes, especially when I have a sleepless night. 5:15am and still awake.
Awww, I'm happy you enjoy watching my videos! Thank you!
That’s exactly hat I’m doing right now! How funny? 😉
Has anyone used the iron flask tumblers? I have tried different ones and I am very unsuccessful and don't know what I am doing wrong.
You are amazing. You are calm and your talking is not too fast. I’m learning to use my Cricut maker but have language disorder from accident so I don’t understand like before. You make it easier. Thank you ❤
Love this! I will be making a sign for my garden tomorrow! Thank you for the inspiration you provide with every episode!
Thank you, Jennifer. I etched my first tumbler using your terrific, detailed instructions . . . it turned out great!
Glad to hear that!
That was great! A lot of very useful information and tips. I love the tip of using a lint brush to hold the cup in place! I will definitely be using that tip!
Glad it was helpful!
This seems pretty easy and I like the fact that they look professional done!
They do look amazing, don't they? Love these!!
Jennifer you are awesome! Thank you for your inspiration.
Thank you so much Jennifer for really going into detail about each step. I'm excited about trying this project.
Hope you enjoy it! 💕
Yes laying on the couch watching Jennifer sounds great but right now I am in a tub watching Jennifer recovering from a cold. Keep up the good work love all your videos
Oh, I'm sorry you have a cold. But love the tub idea -- I lovelovelove my bathtub and am usually reading or watching something in it too. :)
Omg what a thorough and super informational video!!! When I was formulating a question you would already be answering it!!! Thank you so much!
Wow! Thank you!
This is a good video. I was curious how to make tumblers with etching. These are really HUGH seller at craft fairs. After watching video, I definitely
am going to try this!!!!😍
Thank you! I literally just bought tumblers to customize for an upcoming trip but didn’t know where to start. This was right on time.
Glad it was helpful! 😊🌻
You are so awesome! Thank you so much for inspiring my creativity everytime I watch your videos! You ROCK!😊
Thanks so much! 😃
Thank you Jennifer! Great video!
Thank you for talking about safety in your videos! I feel like so many creating videos (especially epoxy vids) leave this info out. So important. Love your how-tos!
You are so welcome! 😊🌻
I cannot wait.
Can’t wait to try it out ❤
Yay! Please let us know how it goes!
I used the Citristrip method and it worked great! Thank you!

You are amazing! I've learned so much from you! Thank you!
I'm so glad! Thank you for watching! 💗
Nice etching, Thanks Jennifer!
Thanks for watching!
I am a very new person to cricuting an d you have helped me so so much
Love this
FYI (for newbies): It is much easier to use a needle to weed with the smaller/thinner tip than most purchased weeders have. Simply empty the led from a mechanical pencil. Push a needle up into the opening while pressing the top (or whatever “button” your precise mechanical pencil has that releases the led) and once inserted, release the “button.” Some I’ve had to hot glue just a tiny amount to keep the needle in place.
Now you have a “weeder” that cost under $1 to make & bonus- the eraser side is great for picking up tiny scrap pieces on the table
That's a great tip!
I love your Studio ❤
Thank you so much! 😊🌻
Thanks for the information
My pleasure -- always happy to help!
Makes me want to upgrade my machine to the Maker 3!
Me too!
Very cool! Thank you!
You bet!
They look Awesome Jennifer!!! Looks quick and easy maybe give it a try be greeat for Christmas or Birthday gift! Thank you for teaching us how to do this!!! Hugs Liz.😊
Your welcome! ❤️
You are so welcome! I hope you make some and share a photo with me!
@@JenniferMaker Thank you! 💕

Im waiting 🥰🥰
I like your tutorial.
Glad to hear that! 💗
I found using a dry sponge makes the paint come off so much easier!
Good idea!
Thank you ❤😊

Hello from Clemson, SC
What about those gamecocks yesterday. Pretty impressive
Just her voice is enough! ASMR!
You like my voice? :) Thank you. Like most people, I've always been rather sensitive about my voice. It is very soft. I am grateful for volume controls when recording audio. :)
I find the magic eraser works well on on these projects. Doesn't scratch and you can scrub if needed. :) I use a heat gun for both kinds of tumblers but didn't have one I could set to a particular temperature until recently. I will try your setting next time I make one!
Thank you for sharing this tip!!
@@JenniferMaker Always glad to help! Thanks for always making great tutorials! Been struggling with my card mat recently. It stopped in the middle of cutting out the last of the project and ejected it. I was so upset. I tried to put it back in, just letting it pretend to do the pen parts again to get to the cutting but it died before the cutting twice before I gave up. *sigh*
2 questions: 1. Have you ever tried etching with ferric acid?
2. Would a hair dryer work the same as a heat gun but just heat it up longer? Thank you for your detailed videos!! Always love them
Here is the link to one of my etching tutorials, jennifermaker.com/etched-stainless-steel-tumbler/ and I haven't tried a hair dryer so I can't say for sure that would produce enough heat 💗
Love ❤ 😍
Thank you!
Yay
Thanks!
Is this technique temperature sensitive..like for example can I work outside in the cold winter months? I don’t have a safe space in my small house where I’m away from kids and pets but it gets very cold here in the winter months
Great video! Have you tried Citristrip on other matte tumbler brands; i.e. from Walmart?
No, I have not -- definitely worth a try though!
Have you tried the Brumate tumblers? I have a matte navy one I think would look great etched! (Also- thank you for your detailed instructions!!)
I have not tried that brand. You are so welcome!
I did a brumate, it turned out awesome
Hi, I'm about to try a glossy tumbler and have all necessary items you spoke about. But I did not hear you mention the time frame to keep citristrip on before using heat gun. It seemed like you used it immediately after wrapping in foil and heated for a minute. Did I miss if you need to let it sit for 50 minutes or so before heating or can I heat right away? Thanks! Love your videos. They are so helpful ❤
Hi! All of the step by step detailed directions are at this link for you, jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/ 💗
I tried to do this, but I think it bled a little… you can kinda see a square around the name where I put the tape… do you have any recommendations on how I can remove that?
Hi Jennifer, thank you for your tutorials. They are always very informative. I have some RTIC tumblers and tried this method on them. You mentioned not to leave the citristripe on longer than 1.5 hours as the vinyl wrinkled. However, I had to leave the citristrip on these tumblers for about 2.5 hours. I used Oracle 651 vinyl and it really held up well. I tried the method using the heat gun and unfortunately, the vinyl almost melted and I had a real mess on my hands. I think I got the tin foil that was on top to hot and it melted the vinyl. Are there tumblers that you can recommend that won't take 2.5 hours to etch? TIA
I think it's just trial and error in finding the ones that work best in your specific conditions🥰
Thank you for this video, does the cup brand has a difference? ❤❤I left my cup too long (over night) and it didn't came quite perfect.
We used a few brands and had overall the same results. 😊🌻
Is it okay to use Cricut Smart Vinyl? I've been waiting for this video so I can try it. I have several I need to make for our family party. Thanks for the video.
Yes you can! Just make sure it's the permanent vinyl, not removable.
Do we need to discard the plate and the foam brush after each project? Or it can be washed and used again in the future for another citristrip project? Thanks
You can reuse it for another citristrip project.
Do you have tips or a tutorial for doing an all over design, like cheetah print?
We don't, but the same technique would be used. 😊🌻
A friend was kind enough to bring me some Citristrip when she came to visit us in Toronto. There is some other brand here and no way of knowing if it would work. I got great results with the Citristrip . I need some advice. The design I did on one side is a huge stylized firefly. I put rhinestones on the glowing abdomen part and I’m wondering does anyone think it will look unfinished if I leave most of it including the wings just the plain etched out look with the glowing butt part all glittery rhinestones with some that glow in the dark?
Can you do a different paint stripper video for these cups please
You can request that here. jennifermaker.com/projectrequests/
When applying stencils on both sides, design on one side, name on the other, do you do it at the same time or one at a time?
Do it at the same time. :)
Can you recommend the best way to remove any remaining small pieces of vinyl (such as from inside letters) without damaging or accidentally pulling off the remaining small areas of powder coat underneath? Fingernails, weeding tool, something else? Thank you!
Tweezers would likely be useful. 😊🌻
Have you tested this on any Contigo brand travel mugs? If so, how did it go? Thanks!
We have not. 😊🌻
Hi! Such a great tutorial! I noticed for the "cold nose warm heart" tumbler it looks like you are using a "simplemodern" brand tumbler. Am I seeing that right? I Ask because thats what i have to etch on right now, but i dont see it listed in your products listing for this project. Not all tumblers are created equal and it turned out so well for you so if it is a SM tumber it gives me hope!
We list all the materials used in the tutorial, linked above. 😊🌻
I like the ctristrip etching method n really like the results. I had tried 2 other brands prior to citristrip and let's just say that the results were not as impressive n they tended to melt the vinyl stencil :(. [ also have tried the citristrip etching on few of my own spraypainted cups just as experiments. My question for u is...If I ad other decals to customize the tumbler further will the etching be ruined if I epoxy, BT (brite tone) or GF (grand finale) the tumbler???
Enjoyed the video & tips, keep them coming!!! Til next tyme...keep those cre8ive juices abrewing!!!
For the best results follow my methodology. The etching is permanent, so nothing with alter the appearance after.
You can do other things to the tumbler after you etch. Folks have been using Citristrip for years to strip their tumblers of all powder coating so they can paint or glitter or epoxy them, for example. :)
I’ve used the citristrip the only problem I had was small pieces of vinyl moving or coming off like
In a letter & it did take a while for it to lift powder coating
Yes, it does take a while for sure!
Do you have to throw
Out your brush and sponge after your done or can you rinse them and reuse?
You're always welcome to upcycle 😊🌻
Great Video! Thank you. Do you have a link to your silicon heat mat?

@@JenniferMaker thank you!
When removing the vinyl stencil did anyone pull up some color with it? The only was I can think to describe it is like speckled pieces of color came up leaving silver looking kinda like sprinkles of salt. Sorry not sure how to describe it.
Anyone have the Citristrip bleed under your stencil? I've done it twice on a test tumbler (wrap in foil with heat gun method) and it bled both times. I cleaned with rubbing alcohol, used Cricut vinyl, and made sure I pressed the stencil down around every edge. I really want this to work. What am I doing wrong?
After the cups are done, I noticed you said not quite dishwasher safe. With hand washing and good care, how long should the designs on the tumblers last? Will the powder coating continue to come off from around the design after awhile of use?
With hand washing it should last for years.
Hello, can you tell me the name of the font you used for "Cold Nose, Warm Heart"?
Kite script from font bundles. fontbundles.net/twicolabs-fontdation/6607-kite-script?ref=mnGwRS
Does anyone know if etching the handle on a yeti mugs a bad idea or if there’s a specific way to do it I can’t find a single video about etching handles on mugs or any sort of handle action on mugs. Love watching Jennifer‘s videos even if I’m not doing a project. It’s very Stepford wives but in a comforting way.
You can ask in the group for help with this. facebook.com/groups/cricutcraftersandmakers/
what sponges are best? you said green ones are not good but I didnt catch the brand
The supplies are listed in the material list. (Affiliate) jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
I have a roll of stencil vinyl. Would that work just as good for this project as permanent vinyl?
You can try it but the permanent vinyl is more sticky and makes a good seal.
My vinyl has bubbled up both times when I have tried this any tips on how to prevent that? i’m using cricut permanent vinyl. Thanks so much
You can see more information on the techniques here. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
I want to etch a Yeti for my DIL, but I’m super scared that I’ll mess it up. It’s the limited edition breast cancer awareness 30 oz rambler. Cost me a penny. Im going to do mine first to practice. What font did you use for Jennifer? Btw, great video as always.
Good idea to test first. The fonts can be found on the post. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
Do you always need permanent vinyl or can you use regular stencil?
Permanent vinyl worked best for us, it's thin and the cream doesn't get under the edge as easily. 😊🌻
Gm Jennifer
Hello!
Hi jennifer love your youtube videos, wonder if you can help as the web is very confusing. I live in the uk and all our card is graded in gsm not pounds like the USA, can you please tell me what 65lb card is in gsm, I want to make your Christmas Angel, but think my card is to thick. I think there must be many crafters out there that would love a conversion chart. many thanks kate
Just want Karen says -- go to Google and type in gsm to lbs and you'll get calculators you can use!
I followed this method and did a test patch on the bottom of a tumbler. I allowed the citrstrip to sit on this test patch for 50 minutes and the paint came right off the tumbler. So I cut my actual template and applied it to the face of the tumbler and let the citristrip sit for 50 minutes. At that point, the paint wouldn't come off, so I allowed the citristrip to sit for 10 more minutes, but still the paint wouldn't come off. What do you do in this case? Let it sit longer or just give up and try another tumbler? Once I peeled off my template, the paint was slightly etched looking, but it still wouldn't come off. So I was left with a tumbler that had a tone-on-tone effect.
This can be a lot of trial and error. You can ask in the group for more feedback. facebook.com/groups/cricutcraftersandmakers/
How do you know if a tumbler is powder coated or would this work on any tumbler?
The labeling generally notes it's powder coated. 😊🌻
What font was used for "cold nose warm heart"?
All the fonts used should be listed at the bottom of the written tutorial, the link is in the description above. 😊🌻
Her husband is a lucky man. What a sweetheart.
♥️
We don’t have Citristrip in Australia, is there an equivalent that we might have here?
I do not know what is available in Australia.
I can see that you're following Adrienne Reisinger m2c1 Designs technique. She was the one who discovered this method with the Citristrip !
I have seen other citristrip videos, and they mention m2c1 Designs because is Her method.
Yes! Thank you!
Do you need to seal it after it’s finished stripping the powder coating?
Nope
No need for sealing!
Not sure if this was covered as I can't watch this now, but I just tried this basic project and the cricut vinyl is all curled up at the edges. What should I have used for vinyl? Thanks.
I used permanent vinyl. You can see the affiliate links in the materials list. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
@@JenniferMaker I followed directions using products listed here. I have now trashed two tumblers because the citristrip gets under the stencil and wrecks everything. I secured the stencil as best I could and even used heat on the 2nd one thinking it would adhere better. Nope. It's junk. I have to idea what to do with this.
Will this work for Stanley cups
It should.
I discovered this process.
And there is no reason to scrub the tumbler if you follow my methodology. 700 degrees is too hot. You will melt the vinyl causing it to move.
@@m2c1designs59 you have a link to a video
Went to the video you link the sound cut out and there’s no instructions on what the temperature should be or how long you should use the heat gun for. I prefer Jennifer’s videos much better as they are so professional.
@@bridget3027 Looks like my comments are being deleted. Whether Jennifer's videos are more professional than mine, make no mistake, the steps, process and background information came from me.
That's awesome, M2C1! We've seen a number of different techniques for using CitriStrip across all social platforms. we are not claiming to have invented the process, but rather to vet the quality of different techniques to further educate our crafters. We got the tip to use heat and aluminum together from a thread in our Cricut Crafters & Makers group. They may have learned it from you, and if so, thank you SO much for your contribution and innovation to the crafter community!

Hi Jennifer. What font did you use for the mug with your name?
They are listed on the blog post. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
Is there ever a need to seal these with epoxy? Does the powder coating left around the design ever start to chip away?
So far it has help up with basic wear and tear.
Do you need to seal the etched area?
It is not necessary.
Hi Jennifer,
Hoping I can trouble you with a question. I’ve done my fair share of etching tumblers with citristrip with fairly good success. However, I have NOT been able to successfully etch a light colored Yeti yet and I’ve damaged many. I’ve left the citristip on for times varying from 50 minutes to several hours to overnight and even tried the head gun with no success. I’ve just watched your video and am curious if you’ve been successful etching any light colored Yetis and what the “sweet” time was at which you found them to be most successful?
Thank you very much in advance.
The affiliate links are the tumblers we used with success on the blog post. There are more details there. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
@@JenniferMaker I understand that, thank you for your response. Was just curious if you had noted the successful time the Yeti tumbler took you to achieve etching success. Thanks!
I was wondering if you could do the aluminum foil with the heat for both?
Yes, but I found that glossy tumblers like Civago Gloss and Gradient Tumblers worked better with the second technique described, which also requires a Heat Gun and Aluminum Foil. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
@@JenniferMaker Omg!! Thank you so much for the great response time. That goes to show the time, effort and love put into your channel. I wish you continued success. Many blessings.
Have you tried Stanley?
I tested Toki Powder coated tumblers and YETI Rambler tumbler. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
Does this work with colored tins?
These are the ones we tested that worked. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
I've seen some other youtubers who let the vinyl cure on the tumbler overnight before applying the citristrip, have you tried this, and if so, do you see any benefits?
I have not tried it to give you a solid answer.
Does the cup need to be sealed after etching?
No, it doesn't. jennifermaker.com/etch-tumblers-with-citristrip/
What is the best paint if you want to paint your own tumbler and do the etching?
We haven't tried that, we've only used the pre coated tumblers. 😊🌻
To start this business we have make websites to where our products will sell or can i start without websites also mam
Not necessarily -- you could sell locally, or online on a place like Etsy. :)
Thank you for this video. It is very helpful! Do you leave the citristrip for 50 minutes before you use the heat gun on the glossy tumblers or can you just heat it right away? 😊
I would let it sit some.
I wonder who’s hands those were making the tumblers because those were definitely not Jennifers hands L O L but definitely another great project
I have a wonderful team of people who help me, and my "design elves" help assemble projects on camera -- I embrace design elves of all skin colors, types, sizes, ages, and genders! Not only do they help me get projects recorded so you're not just relying on my free time to do it, but they also help us test our designs and ensure that someone other than me can make them. :)
Some people use foil to cover the tumbler, yes or no?
We tried both methods in the video 😊🌻
