House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal for HBO. It is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones and is based on Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the "Dance of the Dragons", and the war itself. The main contenders are Houses Targaryen, Hightower, Stark, Baratheon, Arryn and Velaryon.
Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Based on the fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. I've read Fire and Blood and it's actually very good . Its written in third person but not as bland as a history book, and it has very interesting stories and characters

I 100% agree with Carmine that this should have just been a pure art book detailing events and places not seen before but as another history book on a period we’ve already covered? What is the actual point? 😂

The god to honest truth: He's written himself into a really tight spot. He has all these different intricate POV characters spanning over continents and different time zones who all need a satisfactory conclusion to their arcs. He has however stated that The Winds is 75% complete and that he has wrapped up the stories for most of the POV characters although George being George we can never know- it could be another 10 years before we even see the Winds but I'm optimistic that it will release in the next 3-4 years at the least. However given his age I can't see him ever finishing A Dream of Spring.
I think wrote himself into a hole in ASOIF, and writing this stuff is so much easier.

Pretty sure that Emilio and Linda are the actual ones who wrote this one and George kind of just approved things. They're the ones who help George keep track of the series lore and also did most of the work for World of Ice and Fire.

Unfortunately he can’t release part two until he finishes the dunk and egg stories because of the whole Summerhall fiasco.
@@chadsummerchild1120 I don't really see how. He can just give lots of conflicting information on Summerhall because no one who was present would've survived and/or talked about it to historians anyway.
As Chad said, F&B Part 2 is supposed to contain too much informations about Dunk & Egg, the Blackfyre's rebellions and Robert's Rebellion. No way to do it without getting into spoiler territory.

Harry Lloyd is brilliant he often gets forgotten about but he’s one of my favourites from the early seasons. His character isn’t even that bad compared to some of them lol

@@MNGN101 My apologies I realise I may have confused George's own words with his (I tend to confuse them sometime) I do however recall that he instituted a lawsuit against CDPR because initially when they wanted to start making the first game he signed a deal giving them the righs to make the game for not a lot of money (I think it was somewhere under 100 000 dollars) but when the games became really popular he wanted more money for the use of the IP rights from CDPR. He also at one occasion stated that he doesn't see why the games are more popular than the books (this is how I confused the two statements). I just didn't like his whole attitude toward CDPR and video games in general (but yes he never said it wasn't an art form).
The artwork alone makes it worth it to me. Im a hardcore fan I suppose but don't have a physical copy of Fire and Blood. Definitely going to order this book just to have around and to look at the gorgeous artwork.
I only bought it for the illustrations. The art looks amazing and I enjoy these style of books.
There's no other reason to buy it, especially if you already have Fire and Blood

dont listen to him lmao. ive read fire & blood and bought this one yesterday and i absolutely recommend it. the artworks are gorgeous and it is actually really easy to read aswell. if fire & blood is too confusing for you this will get you through the most important stuff you need to know for hotd PLUS you get a nice cofee table book to show your friends.

I feel like buying this book will encourage George to not release Winds of Winter lol, so I will only be buying this one second hand if I happen to come across it out in the wild.

Was honestly confused about this release and was wondering if it was the follow-up for Fire & Blood before watching this video and now genuinely disappointed it's a re-hash.
Already bought it and greatly enjoying it. Sure has a lot more details on what happend during the reign of the Targaryens, so I'm not complaining at all.

This is marketed as "a great gift" for those nephews and coworkers you only talk to once a year and you know nothing about them except that pre 2019 they liked a TV show on facebook. It comes in just under the $50 gift limit.

Fire & Blood only has 700 pages? So the Hobbit is a 300 something page book turned into 3 three hour long movies, there's an 850 page Harry Potter book that was adapted in one movie which was under 2.5 hours, and HOTD is going to be around 3-4 seasons (if done according to George's estimates) of ten 1 hour long episodes each, resulting in 30-40 hours to adapt one 700 page book
the book doesnt start with viserys though. the first season is 80 pages long
Dance of Dragon is only 270 pages. It will need 3 seasons max to wrap up the entire dance.

Huh, was not aware of this release. I've stopped following religiously like I used to. I do already have Fire and Blood, and The World of Ice and Fire though, so this sounds like a pass. Thanks for the info!
on a side note, I would actually like Dany's brother narrating his understanding of the history of Westeros to Dany. Preston could have a field day thinking about how maybe he gave her the wrong idea of westerosi society and the nature of politics.

This was not a good move for him, they should have waited until the dance show was finished to release this. Honestly any book he puts out besides winds will not be well received. I can understand SOME fans taking them as a slap in the face.

What I really want, as a somewhat casual (I watched your vids, comicbookgirl19s and Preston’s videos over the last 8 years and watch the shows) is a coffee table book of all the dragons and their names, sizes and riders. Like a kids book of dinosaurs 😂 We love the animals in the show the most. We loved all the direwolves in got but there are too many dragons in hod I’m constantly googling which dragon is who and what they look like while I’m watching. Or someone should make an instagram just of the dragons, all we care about is the dragons 😂 thanks for still making videos after all this time, especially the live after parties this season were so wholesome. (posting from a burner cause my main is 18+ and like you I have a bit of a stalker problem 😅)
I think it’s supposed to be a coffee table book like the world of ice and fire. I’ll surely have both on my coffee table once I get my on home!
I don’t like the recreating and rewriting of all his stuff, nor do I like all these additional authors adding their opinions into the stories. I’m sticking to my old books, the originals

Hard core fan, have to get it. Sounds like the GoT art book that came out a few years ago. That was like 2 inches thick and full of gorgeous art of all Westeros. Audio book too, free credits, why not.

The purpose of this book is to be a visual representation of Fire and Blood, for collectors as you said, so recommending the audio for a visual book.. Idk. One might as well pick up fire and blood if they want the text...
If you like stunning artwork buy it. If you dont,then just stick with or buy Fire and Blood and you will be good.

I wished they would do a non-dragons related material. Like they were supposed to do a Long Night series but didn't have the material and had to make it up. Maybe George could do a book about the stuff that was there at the time from the beginning of the Starks to Lan the Clever(not Naomie Watts please lol) and so forth. So they can then have material to do a show properly.

Can we get a book about the history of the children of the forest or the first men or something. I get it the Targs are cool but I need something that gives me an idea of what he’s gonna do with the main story.
it seems like a lot of the "history" about the children of the forest and the first men are just spoken legends. it was the andals that began recording and preserving westerosi history. if you want an in-universe book, and let's face it, George isn't going to give us an omnipresent account of ancient history, then the closest thing would maybe be a collection of legends with little continuity and credibility. which would still be cool, but probably isn't going to be a book in and of itself.
Saw it at a local Costco which is at a lower cost than most, but you're right it's still a bit pricey for something that is redundant if you already have Fire & Blood. The graphics are indeed amazing!

I feel really bad for his publisher. Preston and you have mentioned this a little, how these random books are throwing bones to the publisher. TWOW and DOS, after the HBO show, should’ve been along all time top selling books. That’s a huge win the book publishers totally had every reason to expect.
Yeah I'm getting really ticked with him. I bought an inexpensive paperback set of the books off Amazon sometime around season 4 or 5 of the show. I also have all the audio books and I was pissed when I realized that he wasn't close to releasing the other book. Granted he said he's mostly done with winds of Winter but if you divide that up for the amount of time between books we could potentially have another two or three years before we get the rest of it

I personally have chosen not to purchase this work because of the disrespect and racism that the co-authors have displayed specifically against their own fan base. It's a shame. I'd imagine the artwork is as beautiful as it has been in past illustrated works.
You and PJ haven't covered the controversy with Linda. Fans are accusing her of being racist about her views on the casting. I think it's just a collectors thing, i'd rather support less established fantasy authors like Alison Croggon.
List price of $60, not gonna pay that for some pretty new pictures that are all over the internet.

Previewed some of the drawings and some of them did not look good. Many looked like the classic silly fantasy book covers. I'd rather buy prints of the good ones directly from the artist, which is possible in some cases.

not pointless for newcomers. People just got introduced to this show because of the hype train, and with XMAS coming its gonna sell alot to newer fans. People who missed out on GoT's now get their own series to enjoy and a collectibles to buy for their new found interest. It was marketing at it's best. Right after HoTD finished? Cashing in on new fans, old ones and gonna ride that wave til this series is done.
