    A beautiful water lily. Not harmful to animals. But most varieties will multiply so beware if don’t want a pond full in a few years. I have some in my small fish pond. Great job on the shed. You are a hard worker Kevin. God’s blessings always to you and your family.

    According to Mr. Google Pants : "Besides being pleasing to the eye, water lilies do a great deal to maintain the well-being of the ponds they inhabit. For one, they provide shade to keep the water temperature down during the hot summer months. By blocking out a lot of sunlight, the lilies help to keep the algae growth down." Couldn't find info if they are harmful to goats. Pole barn lean to progress is great. Can't wait to see the roof completed. Have a great rest of the week!

      Yes, water lilies are poisonous to both dogs and goats. Neither are likely to eat it though being in the center of the pond. If you clean it out of there though, dispose of it somewhere away from the animals.

    Hey Kevin, something you can do when working up like that and have some tools you need to use is to put a piece of plywood 3x3 up there and put your nail gun and skill saw there so they don't accidentally fall!! That piece of wood slides easily enough and protects your tools.

    Kevin, adding the braces to the ends of each rafter will help to reinforce the posts and roofline. Even if you decide to do something for walls, the 45° braces between the roof rafters and each post is well worth the cost and time to add strength to each junction point. Your roof will shift left and right when the wind hits the roof more so than lifting stright up. Make the braces at least 4 feet long with a 45° cut on each end. Keep up the great work my brother in Christ.

    • @MrScoresby
      @MrScoresby Před 2 lety

      I would double up on the Simson ties add to the other side. Use the heavy short nails as the deck screws have next to no shear strength. And you can snap the 3.5" with your hands. I second the angle bracing and it can be moved if you add headers for doors or gates. the old guy Bert

    • @charlesreohr6236
      @charlesreohr6236 Před 2 lety

      @@MrScoresby Doors and or gates can be added if cut to the angle of the braces. Headers can also be added between the angle braces because the braces act like jack studs to transfer the weight to the bottom.

    Nicely built. Might need to attach some water weld to prevent water seepage. I had to giggle when you said birds might of dropped seeds for the Lily. The Lily you have is wild and is a rhysome which grows from the bottom in soft swampy ground and spreads out in all directions underground. The Lily pads are actually the leaf of the plant that provides the photosynthesis of the plants system. The flowers are gorgeous. They can take over your pond if you don't give it a good trim up underground this fall. It is a very good source of information that the pond is healthy. Just remember to move out some of the lilies when you guys pull out some of the other overgrown plants. The goats will not generally eat them except when starving and that's not gonna happen on your watch so no worries. They provide a great place for Kya's frog family cycle. Frogs sometimes lay eggs on the underside of the pads and they sunbathe adults on top. Things are happening fast on this year's projects so take it easy and git er done. Blessings family.

    We had lily pads on our ponds up in New York they do not pose any threat to any of your farm animals, the fact of the matter is lily pads are healthy for your ponds because it keeps your temperature of that pond from getting too hot they give oxygen to the water, and keeps it from stagnating. They are safe don't worry.

    What is fascinating about the lilies is that some types are edible, young leaves can be used in soups, the roots can be cooked just like potatoes [stews, soups, and roasted] etc. They'll also keep the pond water cooler and keep algae at bay or at least to a minimum. Contact your local college horticulture dept. and talk to the instructor he/she may give you some pointers about them and how to control them and they may know if they would be toxic to the goats. Look at them as a blessing, if they grow in your pond then the water is safe for the animals and Kiaya (sorry if I misspelled it) will have more frogs to catch. Always look for the good and the blessings.

    I love that y'all say "fixin to" also, when I lived briefly in California, I got made fun of a lot for my Southern sayings 😅
    Water lilies are extremely invasive, they spread through waterways and water fowl. If you have a creek that feeds your pond it could have been washed into your pond after a flood, or it could have been transferred by a water fowl that had some of the plant stuck on its leg or it deposited the seed through its droppings. All water lilies are poisonous to humans, with the exception of the seeds and in some species the tuber roots... but I personaly wouldn't let the goats eat it... they probably wouldn't try to, but you never know. 😊

    My granddaughter has a very small goat herd, only a couple of nannies. We've found that the best way to send one into labor is to make plans to leave town for a day or two. One we thought was still a month or more out ALWAYS kidded either just before we left, or a day or two into our vacations with only the house sitter to tend to them and other one always looked like she should have dropped triplets for the last 3 months before she finally kidded singles. Goats are such silly creatures, lol.

    Hey Kevin that's what happens when the original building (barn) was made a little off. The next thing you build attached to it comes out a little off. I know as I helped my step- father finish out the back patio at our house when I was 16 years old and that same thing happened. He had to do some extra adjusting.

    Good info from a friend once. Screws vs. Nails
    There's a couple reasons houses are built with nails. Screws will break when stressed. Nails do not. They will bend and still be strong.

    I always love the drone footage and wow, looking directly on top of the lily's was awesome. The big flower in the pond is the Lilly part of the Lilly pads. It was all so soothing with the guitar music playing. The lean-to is looking great, Kevin. I can't wait to see what you do with the sides and redoing the little door to sliding doors.

    Vaseline for those calluses. Non-staining, southing, Cheap and easy. All our best best fishing lakes were covered in water lilies the fish love them. And if I remember right, there are pink as well as white flowers.
