Ok. So I see this is from 2014! It’s now 2022.
I searched far and wide on CZcams for practical clear ways to fix my guitar playing pain issues. I watched other ad filled nonsense AND long disguised ads that tricked me into watching.
BUT, YOUR’S IS THE BEST ADVICE I HAVE FOUND. Folks, forget it’s old and has simple production.
THE INFO NICELY DONE. I might watch every day for months to come.
Please add ads. You should receive royalties for this. It’s the best I’ve found.

Hi Curt, I'm glad my video helped you. I assume you are talking about other people's videos when you say, "I watched ad filled nonsense AND long disguised ads that tricked me into watching..." I wasn't quite sure the first time I read it. That said, my videos are monetized with CZcams, but they only get me about a tank of gas worth of revenue month. That's why I added the "BuyMeACoffee" link in the description, but I don't think most people see it. At this point I'm just thrilled my videos for every joint in the body are still helping people. CZcams's algorithm really prioritizes new content, so folks have to dig these days. Probably TMI for you! Sorry.
Thanks again for the kind words.
      All the best,
      Gary C.

@@garycrowley1 - I edited my comment to make it more clearer that I found your video to be far more helpful and concise than the sea of videos out there addressing guitar playing elbow pains. Grateful for your insights. You would do well to enable ads before and/or during your video. It’s worthy of more income for the insights and expertise. Thanks so much.

This method really works!! I can´t stress enough on how this helped me. My palmaris longus tendon (fretting hand) hurted a lot from too many hours practicing without taking breaks in between. I was a little skeptical at first, specially because I was afraid that doing this would cause more damage, but I gave it a shot, relaxing one muscle of my forearm at a time, and it really worked! I feel much better now, and hope to be able to play again very soon.
Gary, you're a life saver and I will be forever grateful.

THANK YOU GARY! I am a performing guitarist and singer. My right arm (used for pretty aggressive sometimes high energy strumming and finger picking on amplified acoustic guitar) was really hurting bad to the point where I had to stop playing to let it subside, I think due to tendonitis (self diagnosed). I used a ton of Salonpas.
I did what you showed in video #1 and almost immediately (!) the pain and stiffness vanished. Miracle! Thank you again, you made a huge difference in my life!

You are amazing, thank you so much!!! Even just knowing this is possible, it already kinda totally changes the mental game of trying to stay healthy. Ahhh, also, just came back to edit my comment now, because I just glanced at your other videos, and I recognize the hip ones - your suggestions helped me a ton with my hips and lower back a few years ago..! I treat them myself now regularly and hardly ever have big episodes of lower back pain any more. It has been years now..! Thank you so much. I work overseas in places with almost no doctors for this kind of ongoing stuff, and I can’t tell you how grateful I am to be able to learn this approach and try things on my own. It gives a person peace of mind!

Absolutely lifesaving. I am a very serious guitar player who started to develop pain in my picking wrist. I was terrified at the idea of having to stop playing for a year like so many people have had to do. For me, the forearm muscles that released the pain were on the side of my forearm on the thumb side. So make sure to try that if the muscles in the center aren’t releasing pain

I have had a problem with pain in my little finger (sometimes set off when using my ring finger) for about a month and was resigned to a lengthy rest period before picking up the guitar again. I tried the press, hold, and move technique on the tender area on the side of my little finger last night, along with some press, pull, and release on the top, and just a few hours later I could make a fist with no pain in my little finger. It isn't completely cured yet and I'm thinking that taking a break from guitar for a week or two will still be a good idea but I have already noticed significantly less pain when fretting/bending with my pinky and no pain at all when fretting and bending with my ring finger. Thanks very much Gary - I really appreciate you taking the time to make this video (and the others on your site)

Great video! These are great myofascial release techniques that can be used on any part of the body. If your muscles are really tight then you can combine the push-pull-release with a lengthening of the muscle, ie. you’re pushing the fascia in the lengthening direction of the muscle while actively stretching the muscle by contracting the antagonistic muscles (the muscles working in the opposite direction of the tight muscle), this forces your tight muscle to relax while you’re lengthening the fascia surrounding the muscle. This isn’t a quick fix however since fascia is much slower to relax than muscles are, which is a good thing since the role of fascia is to create stability, but annoying when it becomes overly tight, but if you do it repeatedly you will most likely see improvement unless the cause of tightness is something other than keeping the arm static for too long while playing guitar. If you want to learn more techniques for releasing tight muscles, I suggest searching for videos on pin-and-stretch, MET (Muscle energy technique) & myofascial mobilization.

Gary I can't thank you enough! I have been dealing with these pains in my left hand (fretting hand) for years. I'm 41 years old and I have been playing since I was 13... even thought I had several years where I didn't play much, time has taken its toll. I did mechanic work for over 10 years which obviously made it worse and 7 years ago I moved into CAD drafting and that too has worsened the condition. I accepted that it was just normal and have found thru the pain, hand numbness, etc. I am looking into seeing a doctor to check me for carpal or cubital tunnel syndrome and I still probably will to be safe, but after 10 mins of doing this method, the tension is gone! The pain is still there, but definitely not much more than a fraction of what it was. I wish you all the best and will be promoting your page!! God bless!

No worries Gary - just one quick question - my sore tissue is predominantly on the outside of my forearm starting a few inches below the elbow and moving down for a few inches of the forearm). Similar to the place you work towards the end of this video, but more on the other side of the forearm. I get some pain particularly when I move the wrist backwards and forward. Do you have any tips specific to this area? Or should I just use the same methods in this video on those areas?

A lot of bad forms can't happen when you stand up with the guitar strapped high and angled up. I do feel myself getting tense from time to time but try to play a bit with your eyes closed - you can immediately feel which parts of your body is tensing for no reason at all.

Thank you so much for putting this stuff up for free!!!!
I've been struggling with my arm aching since 2014 now. (It hurts on the topside of my arm between the elbow and my wrist - feels like the big forearm muscle area?)
I went to every doctor, had magnetic resonance imaging done, even of my neck.
They put my arm in a cast for 2 weeks.
I had x-rays of my arm done, they even did an electroneurography at a neurologist to check if my nerves where functioning correctly.
I have been to a chiropractician and a sportsdoctor. I took inflamation medicine.
    But to no avail :(
Nothing really helped. I have never once heard of guitar tendonitis until i recently came across it while googling!?!?!
What helped me most so far was doing stretches i found online and now im gonna try this in addition!!
    Hopefully it will help!
As long as i can feel pain while putting pressure on it, shall i keep doing it? Or can i go overboard when i do it regularly on a daily basis?
And in another video, someone mentioned Nutrition is very important too, but i have to buy his book to find out about it. Would u recommend taking any supplements that help with this problem?
Thank you so much again for your help! I have hope that even I can be pain free someday :)

You are very welcome. You can't really overdo it. If you do it throughout the day and certain area get sore from the work, just move to other areas for a day or so. Keep up the good work. I don't find nutrition to be an issue, but if you want to give it a try, then I don't think it would make things any worse.
