I actually did get my tie caught in a shredder whilst I was leaning over it to laminate something on another machine. I simply lifted the top of the lid so that it stopped, and waited until people stopped laughing and someone cut the tie off with scissors.
Later on, I got a new tie from the company boss (in the middle of the company's annual get-together, no less) and someone gave me a little model of a character from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Yes, it was Shredder, and I still have him.
No idea who gave me it.

I managed a jewelry store. I had a guy catch his tie on the jewelry buffer one time. He forgot to tuck it into his shirt and it got caught. It pulled his head into the buffer and he hit his head HARD. Thankfully that was all. No concussion, no blood. Missed about two days of work with a bad headache. But. We’d have to always wear a suit and tie, AND buff jewelry with a table top buffer. Super dangerous.

that is an industrial paper shredder, basically a small-scale version of those huge shredders at places like recycling plants. (SSI shredders on youtube has those and others.)

This reminds me of the time I got the drawstring on my black hoodie in my shredder. Lost the aiglet and a cm or two of string. Had to cut the ragged end flat and sew it up so it didn't fray. My hoodie is now an amputee.
