I remember the first time this song was sung at Mass. I cried the entire time. It spoke to me in a profound way. Peace begins in our own heart.
Put your cynicism and bigotry aside. Listen to those with whom you do not agree. You may find common ground. As a world, we must do this. Open your mind and your heart. Learn about those who are different from you. You don't have to agree with them but you must learn to at least listen to different points of view and try to see the world through other eyes.. we MUST start working together to save our children..our planet..human life. Love to all.

This was my 8th grade graduation song in 1971 at a catholic school. It was as moving then.
This is something that everyone could benefit seeing and hearing and what Facebook can do.
I couldn't help but think while they were singing this beautiful hymn that they were also singing to all the souls who lost their lives right there 14 years ago - made me very emotional.
+sweetg12651 I also want to respond to those who felt the Pope appeared to be bored - - I got the impression that he was very moved. Don't forget, they were in the bowels of the twin towers. My guess is that he was very moved and didn't feel a smile was appropriate at the time. He most likely was in prayer.

The Creator has blessed us with the presence of Pope Francis...the day of the Trade Center horror i was living in Wheat Ridge Colorado...my friend Brenda called me and said turn on the TV..there something happening in NYC. I never worked in the twin towers but did work as a corporate travel agent nearby. I always remember that date and the courage and bravery of the first responders

When and why did they change the words to the song?
+Tones Smeric - I looked that up. I read that Microsoft omitted the reference to God in one of its downloadable version, but also offers the original version. Another article explained that the lyrics were edited for a non-genderized version, but didn't specify who did that, or when. Predictably, the comments section of these articles were rife with less than harmonious opinions about the changes. So, apparently peace doesn't begin there. lol

I dislike the fact that they changed "God as our father" to "God as creator" like right in front of the pope. I get that you want to include other religions but that doesn't mean you have to change the meaning of the song.

I don't like that changed the lyrics from "with God as our father brothers all are we" to God our creator family all are we" I get the original wasn't "inclusive" but regardless still a beautiful song. I just don't like the social police butchering songs that have been arround for a century.
