    Hey, I was wondering I just saw your video I have a 1980. 50 hp mercury. You did not show in detail how to sync the two carburetors at the end of your video. What position do the throttle butterflies need to be in? I take it. They need to be closed both of them when you sink it not open. I had a float stick on my bottom carburetor took both the carburetors off at the same time but the sync connector slipped off the bottom carburetor, so I just gently slipped it back on now. Bottom cylinders will not run but two cylinders run fine good I have a fuel pump problem maybe?

  • @walkersamericanoutdoors7840

    How's it going man, I have the same carb on my 50 Merc, I rebuild it the other day but on the first set of fuel pump diaphragms I put the paper thin black one, then the thin tan one, then the thick black gasket.
    When I crank it it "pops once" every time but I was only able to make it run once.
    No matter if I choke it, prime it, it just pops and that's it basically. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing back from you soon!

      @@MerCSonL6 I appreciate the response, the firing order is correct, the first time I fired it up after the pump rebuilds i got it to start, idle and run decently well, then it died out on me after a few minutes and has been only "coughing" since

    I have a 1984 (from what I could find running the sn 50hp 2 stroke. Do you have to drop the bottom cowling to get the bottom carb off? The back half of the starter bracket(the part that is in the block) is in the way 😡

    • @JG-sk2tf
      @JG-sk2tf Před 7 měsíci

      You need to pull the starter. I cut a 7/16 wrench in half to get the bottom left nut. It fucking sucks. All the other nuts are easy. I recommend filling removing the blue side pieces fiest then removing the top carb first for maximum room getting to the bottom carb left nut.

    • @MerCSonL6

      You have to lower the main venturi, install then screw the main back up to tighten it. Be careful..... its brass. Easily bent.

    I have these same carbs for my motor, I just rebuilt them. Now when I prime my bulb, I have fuel squirting out of the vent hole on the bottom of the fuel pump. I dissassembled again and all the gaskets are aligned properly. Any ideas where my issue is?

    • @JG-sk2tf
      @JG-sk2tf Před 7 měsíci +1

      I had this same issue, it's not a vent hole. Your blue plastic pieces on the sides of the carb are improperly seated. It drove me nuts and I ended up replacing them because I think they were warped from heat.

      I'm going with it has to be a misunderstanding .. It should be paper gasket tan gasket with the valves rubber gasket with the valves Then the center plate. Otherwise the tan gasket and rubber gasket can't sit flat against the back of the center plate.. not saying it would never work but not everybody's going to be lucky if they put it the other way . I did review a manual

    I have this exact motor, having trouble with it when I put in fowrd gear in the water, it stalls out. I can give it gas in neutral then slightly pop it back in forward to getting going. Once it gets going it runs fine until it idles then it dies. What could the issue be? I've tried everything and still have this problem.
