    I noticed that Bacardi is really good in cocktails, especially with less amount used. For example in pina colada I had to use 15% more plantation 3 star than bacardi to achieve the same intensity, but plantation was more complex and tasted better..

    • @ARCSTREAMS
      @ARCSTREAMS Před rokem +3

      plantation 3 star is on my list i recently discovered it looking online through my liquor store website and bacardi superior is my current rum i liked it better than capt morgan or others, strange you have to use more of the 3star since its at above 41% and bacardi at 40% so its not the alc punch its the flavour strenght in the bacardi that is the helping factor i am thinking, i even joyed bacardi neat perhaps even chilled might be good i can only imagine plantation being better neat then according to your description and from what i read

    Really liking these series or types of videos, great fun to watch and informative
    Not surprised about the rum and coke result for the havana club though considering they have made a dedicated bottle for that in the especial :P
    Looking forward to the second video!

    Hah, no wonder you're unsure how to pronounce the winner. I tried calculating one myself, using a bit of voting theory, and there's essentially an unbreakable tie almost however I look at it. Its honestly rather fun to see and work through such a gnarly example of a tie!
    Taking the individual tests as 'voters' and the rums as candidates, you have a Condorcet cycle (ie rock-papers-scissors kind of situation), with 3 rums -- havana, santiago and duppy that would each win head to head against the remaining two (bacardi and the dead fingers one), and would all tie amongs themselves (making those three be in the so called Smith set). So number of wins is the same for the 3, hence no Copeland winner (which would be the one with most wins), and as there are no losses only ties among those 3, can't even break the tie by comparing the worst defeats. Can't use elimination methods either as they all just get tied again.
    Using Black's election method, which is to say, using the Borda count when there's a tie like this, there is however the narrowest winner, and is Santiago de Cuba by a hair (11 points vs 10 for the other two). Eliminating the def losers and using the Borda count only among those three is again a tie, so no help there.
    I see people already tried ranking them by calculating the mean, and it agrees with Santiago as well. Its basically the same thing as a borda count anyhow, as in both cases ranks become points in some straightforward & naive manner.
    I think 'electing' Santiago by the narrowest of margins is the best one could do in such a situation overall, or else even better if possible, pronouncing it simply a 3-way tie.
    You do have true (Condorcet) loser however, and that's bacardi; it will lose any head-to-head vs every other rum by 3 to 1.
    I may use this example later to work through some multiwinner systems as well, perhaps to recommend 2 rums that complement each other, but I'm kinda done w doing math for fun for the evenin' ^^ , and I think the obvious combos are havana & duppy and santiago & duppy as they both give best or second best rums for each cocktail.

      Ha, cheers mate. You’re not the first to do that. But as I said to the others, the whole reason I don’t add up scores is cos it’s flawed. I couldn’t confidently take RS into the next video, cos Hav3 smashed it on a Daiquiri. Bacardi smashed everything else in a Rum and Coke. So Scores just don’t work. 👍👍

    Great video… great content for the home rum lover. Can I suggest that since the results were so spread out between the rums, why not put your best rum in each category up against the premium selection in the category it won in to see how it fares. Usually people watching will have their favourite drink and will be interested to know how the best cheaper brand does in the race against more premium rums, so the result of those contests are much more interesting than seeing how a rum which only did well or ok in most of the categories does. Hopefully that makes sense.

    My suggestion is do a few rounds of various rum styles and pit all the winners for top spot. For us in my area Bacardi, Captian, Havana and Plantation three star are same price so I stock havana and Plantation and usually get gifted Bacardi.

  • @norochmusic
    @norochmusic Před rokem

    a tough question, I think Havana, Santiago, Duppy, Bacardi DMF and Santiago as an all rounder, don't think i'd touch Havana myself, i tend to shy away from the standard bar stock or favourites for some reason. I'm about to try Lazydog silver this weekend and i love the plantation one.

    El havana club tres años es mejor, mas balanceado y mejor sabor ..un añejo blanco exquisito, agradable a la roca o para mezclar, de hecho es la base alcohólica para la coctelería cubana y muchas internacionales...antes de emigrar bacardi a Puerto Rico, también tenian un carta blanca, un añejo blanco y varios añejos...y ambos eran los más usados...me quedo con el habana 3..
