    2:23: "...the next day, the next evening, I was talking to Peter Asher's wife on the phone..." James Taylor just noted this point and kept talking, but it's Peter Asher as in 1. brother of Jane Asher, the girlfriend of Paul McCartney in the 1960's, 2. Peter of Peter & Gordon fame in the 1960's, and 3. (most chillingly) part-owner of the Indica Gallery, where John and Yoko met. Beyond Twilight Zone-level creepy, somehow I think James Taylor has lived that sort of life, because he's been around so many seminal points of music history.

    I live in NY across the park from The Dakota. Everytime I pass that building and see tourists taking selfies with their damn cell phones I am disgusted. They should have some decency and just go to Strawberry Fields which is a two minute walk into the park.
    I couldn't imagine going to the spot where someone was violently shot and killed that way and take pictures like it's the Statue of Liberty. People are sick!

    • @ENigma-um8zw
      @ENigma-um8zw Před 3 lety +10

      It’s incredibly historic, I am a Beatles fan who has been one and respected the band and it’s members and impact, and I don’t live in NYC and I *had* to go see the Dakota and ofc visit strawberry field memorial. But to me, the Dakota was and is for more pertinent to the history and more importantly the history and memory of one of my and our and the worlds greatest musical heroes of all time. Sure, I can see how depending on the selfie or the context of it it could be seen as in bad taste. But I wasn’t doing anything other than paying my deepest of respects and paid pilgrimage to that location above all else as it was sacred to me. I think too culturally and generationally the idea of a selfie or of how to persevere a memory or to take a picture as a point of reference to a place visited that means a lot to a great many people, yet sadly for a reason I think we all wish it wasn’t and that John Lennon was still alive, but that was the location he was killed. And considering he was one of the largest figures in contemporary popular culture it’s inevitable there will be flocks of people who go there who maybe don’t understand or comprehend the reverence that should be paid there and that take a picture if one must, but selfies and smiles and fake gang hand signs not so much, im with you there. People are sick, but people are also beautiful too and knowing the impact and positive influence that Lennon and the Beatles and their music had on the world you could also look at that glass to be grateful how close you are to history and to live off Central Park. Be the change you want to see in the world. Instead of projecting ones potential volatility one may be perceiving, we can always choose joy and to reframe the reverence which I’m not saying anyone is questioning here, and take things even if it’s maybe not the exact way we’d do it, yet still the beautiful reverence of multigenerational positive influence on a massive global scale was made and although it was probably the most unnecessary killings of all of recent history and John Lennon should totally still be alive and the guy who killed him and anyone who disrespects or prevents others from paying their respects (in a respectful manner, to your very point) or poses for a selfie in a manner that is tone deaf to the history before them then I agree, but I don’t agree with people are sick across the board. I mean with the pandemic that may be truer now. But I do believe even with that too, that brighter days are ahead! Peace and Love

    🌈Three chairs was empty for the pièce of david bowie ( elephant man ) the evening after the shot .
    One for john
    Near him for yoko
    And the other was for mark chapman .
