I'm so happy I stumbled across this video, your way of teaching is very confidence inspiring.
Sorry for the off topic question, I was searching about the rear brake pedals. My question is does yours have a left-right play? (Not up down play used for braking from the side to side that doesn't affect braking. Mine is like 15mm-20mm)

No mine does not have no where that much play I would look at the bolts and see where it might be loose

I replaced my levers and now my bike will only start in neutral. I pull the clutch lever in gear and it only cranks over but won’t start

You want to make it softer?
Just loosen it by the case a couple turns and it will make it soft.

Brake cable - does it not connect to the lever at all?

There is no cable for the brake only for the clutch. The brakes use a master cylinder. The lever uses a plunjer to press the cyclinder and slows or stops the bike.
