    Named plants in video:
    Euphorbia 'Ascot Rainbow'

Following on from this video, we will next week be releasing a quick tutorial on potting up your plants from smaller pots to bigger pots.
Please watch out for that :)

Very useful points about strategies to replace/replenish larger decorative pots, thank you! I suppose, for those of us who really care about each individual plant, it's always about meeting the present and future care needs of each species.

Thank you Rosy. To be fair l have had a couple of plants that did not do well in pots right from the beginning and recovered within a few weeks of putting them in the ground, so l look out for the signs of under performing. To my cost l have some pots in a beautiful torquoise colour but they have a chubby middle, l had to use a pruning saw to get the soil straight sided and them was able to pull them out. So l beg you to be patient when we ask will this grow in a pot, when what we may mean is, will it reach it potential or how long will it last in the pot before it needs to go in the ground. Keep the videos coming l always learn something 🧑‍🌾

I think what we all mean is "will it be happy in a pot?" You mentioned in your potting medium video that the one with John Innes #3 was good for shrubs. Could you show how to pot a bareroot shrub ? Could you explain to people in the USA what it is and how we could make it if we had no access to John Innes #3? It seems to be one of the huge differences in the UK vs USA, that there are directions for growing in containers and potting up, along with potting mediums. David Austin Roses gives directions for using John Innes #3 in with potted bareroot roses, but we in the USA just assume it is one of the ton of different kinds of potting medium that we have regionally in the USA and that any potting medium will do. Again we want to make our plants happy in a pot, not just "grow."

John Innes is a loam-based compost with different numbered versions referring to whether it’s for seeds, mature plants etc. The “recipes” were developed by the John Innes Institute and given to the public so John Innes composts can be produced by any manufacturer. Hope that helps.

I think when people ask if they will grow in containers, they mean for the long haul.. I mean why else would someone ask that question?😂 of course roses, some varieties come in a pot but aren’t for containers.. so your logic on that is wrong…
But other than that comment, really great info!

      Yes, what I thought.

Well my reasoning as a beginner is that just because I buy a plant in a nursery in a pot, doesn't mean it will thrive long term in a pot - something you say yourself after a few minutes into the video. Maybe the question shouldn't be quite so irritating then?

I’m sorry, but I have to give this video a thumbs down. It is a legitimate question as to whether a plant will live in a pot long-term. It’s very obvious if somebody asks if it will grow in a pot that that is what they mean. What a silly, silly topic of discussion.

Yes... her irritation levels are set way too low!
