  • An overview of the Drama Triangle and how it applies to leadership and building teams. It is adapted from the Karpman Drama Triangle.
What is the Drama Triangle? It’s a dysfunctional social game that keeps people stuck in Victim Consciousness.
Victim Consciousness(Victimism): it’s when life happens to you rather than you being an active participant in making it happen.
Janae B Weinhold PhD, How to Break Free of the Drama Triangle & Victim Consciousness
The Karpman Drama Triangle is a psychological framework developed by Dr. Stephen Karpman in the 1960s to illustrate the dynamics of interpersonal relationships and the recurring patterns of interaction that contribute to conflicts. This model identifies three primary roles that individuals often unconsciously adopt during conflicts, leading to a cycle of drama and dysfunction. The three roles within the Drama Triangle are the Victim, the Persecutor, and the Rescuer. Understanding these roles and the interplay between them can provide valuable insights into the dynamics of conflicts, enabling individuals to break free from destructive patterns and cultivate healthier, more constructive relationships. In this introduction, we will explore each role in the Drama Triangle and delve into the ways in which these dynamics manifest in various interpersonal situations.
