🙏Thank you so much for watching my video, please don't forget to LIKE & SUBSCRIBE. ✌
I have looked for so long as how to do this. Thank you a ton.
Can Onn 4k play the large file movies from NTFS ext HDD?
Worked perfectly! Thank you
Omg thank you so so much! This is something I've been trying to figure this out for month's! Thanks again.
I'm so happy you found my video helpful. Please tell your friends!
@@CordCuttersLI oh I've sent your very good information video to my brother and friend. I will for sure be watching. You post great content and it's very easy to understand. So thank you.
This is the first time I have viewed one of your videos. I liked it very much, so I'm going to subscribe. Thanks for the informative video; I'll be watching for more.
Thank you, and thank you for your service!
Thank you sir. I believe for 20 bucks, i will try one .Good video
Great video! Very easy to understand specially for old guys… This box looks almost exactly like the box I’m running the Dynalink..It was a Walmart box About 2 years ago…going to try this I think it might Do the trick… Keep up the good work great job!
its not working in the second generation because dont recognize my usb, this is for the format, the new versión only suports fat32 formats, what i can do?
Thanks for the information. I have a 256 GB flash drive, which I only use to view files. It wouldn't work with an Onn device. Now I understand why. It worked just fine with a Fire Stick.
Awesome I followed your instructions and it worked perfectly ''Thanks''
Excellent tutorial! After a previous upgrade, I was unable to use ADB over USB to add storage. This seems to have done the trick!
Excellent video sir. thanks so much for the info, ignore previous comment didn't know you can manually reset.
when I type sm partition disk:8,0 private nothing comes up and then the ONN box restarts itself; I do have my USB drive formatted to fat32
Thanks for all You do for Us 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏👍
The problem with the ONN box is that the USB is only 2.0, so it defeats using faster 3.0 USB sticks because you have to format them to fat 32 which make them too slow to use for most apps like KODI that have to be in the main memory to work.
Very good points.. I'd still suggest getting the USB 3.0 Drive anyway, since they're so inexpensive. Agree completely on KODI though. I'd never install that app on external storage, regardless of the device.
Thank you! You just got a new follow. 👍👍
Thank you!
This is an excellent teaching but is this a better than the Troy point & firestick hacks videos that they just enable it as internal storage by some settings in developer mode and that's it no adb shell commands. I'm figuring this gives more versatility. 2nd question : now moving apps to USB on fire stick only moved the app not the app data. On kodi the app data is the largest part? Is there a work around for that? Thank you
would be really useful if we could have a pdf file with all the commands needed to follow along to that would help tremendously for some one with a brain injury cheers thanks in advance .
Send me an email. I'll be happy to make you one. info@cordcuttersli.com
the ONN is awesome! so much better than the Chromecast with google TV
It worked! I added a 31 xtra gb of storage. Other tutorial requiered a PC and a similar process. Now I gotta figure out how to add apps that the box won't accept, they don't even show on the playstore.
Thanks for helping me get my sd configured correctly/ Just like children though, each device has its own quirks. I had to actually format my sd to exFAT to get it to work. A question- why do no file explorers recognize the sd card? The sd card is working correctly and i have moved my apps to it, But file explorers will not recognize it. Any solutions
Thanks for this
What sort of problems could occur if the external storage is accidentally unplugged during use? I would like to try this method with both the Oculus Quest 2 and the Oculus Go to increase system storage
Also, sideloaded apps can now be added to favorites from within the regular UI on the onn UHD Streaming Device.
Great tutorial thanks 👍
Worked with TIVIMATE to allow the storage location for recordings to be saved to the USB. Which was not possible previous. You can still have the main TIVIMATE on the original location. Just storage is changed. Could not do this on the ONN any other way. Thanks.
That’s exactly what I’m looking for.
Thank you, A valuable tutorial. I also I appreciated the tutorial on using the Netflix button to access wolf launcher and I am still using it, Amazon has a broke it.
Thank you sir!
Have you tried this Onn. Streamer yet? What do you think about it?
@@CordCuttersLI I have had one for a while but don’t use it because of storage issues, now you have broken the code for me. I appreciate it. As far as performance, it worked pretty good, right now it’s running live stream, of my wyze cameras. I had the storage so filled up, that the box would lock up and I would have to cut the power to clear it. That was my only issue with it.
Thank you again.
But, if USB (or micro SD in my case) must be FAT32, so it would not be able to receive and save files of more than 4gb, i.e., a 4k movie of 10gb, it would have to be NTFS (that Onn also supports), so does this proceed also works with USB or micro SD in NTFS or don't but there is another way to do it??? If so, could you tell me how or where to watch your tutorial?
Thanks a lot and congrats for your content!
sm list-disks returns nothing.. tried replacing otg cables and thumb drives and even tried a small hard disk... nothing. :(
How can i backup tivimate to usb drive on my onn device? I already have it hooked up and ready to go but its not showing up in xplore app
What to do if you put the wrong commands in? how do I go back and fix it?
Great stuff. I was able to complete the process. Should I move all my apps to usb storage? Thanks
If you're running low. VPN and your main streaming app maybe not tho
some apps are not recommend to be moved to USB like a lot of the player apps tivimate, implayer etc should be left on internal storage. depends on the app.
You are 100% correct. I did mention that, but that ended up on the cutting room floor. This video got a lot longer than I though it would. Thank you for watching and pointing that out. ;)
@@CordCuttersLI
I think noting WHICH apps should definitely remain on Internal Storage (and which will run adequately on USB) is VITAL INFORMATION for us users.
This is particularly true for apps we might use for modifying OS launchers, animation speeds, etc!! ... particularly, should your USB go bad or you just can't connect to for unknown reasons.
If the wrong apps become 'unreachable,' you could end up bricking your device (i.e. not even be able to ReFormat it)!
Please do a short video, where specific apps (or at least, 'app-types') are NAMED and LISTED ... and WHY.
Gracias!
Thank you sir!!!
Hi Cord Cutter. I have the G1 Android box. I tried to add storage with a flash drive to the G1 USB drive, did the developer options etc.Yesterday worked fine. Today the USB external drive shows USB safely ejected!! Why? I did take the the flash drive out of the device when I went to bed .Should I I have left the drive in situ? Please advise.Thanks.Mike Tyler
Thank you so much for your patience teaching us this. One question though, every time I install an app, do I have to move it to the usb or is there a way to use the usb as a default storage? Thanks again.
After you've installed the USB Storage, newly installed apps should automatically install to that USB.
@@CordCuttersLI Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Keep the amazing job!
The update to Android 12 has already been released, but now the microphone does not work for me, and now it defaults to what you show in the video. It is no longer necessary to do this.
Being on an external storage ......will that affect the app's performance?
I would like to know how to copy media/video to USB
This is not original firmware. Have you a tutorial for secure install for lineageOS?
What happens if the USB drive fails?
can you access the usb storage plugged in from your local network?
Yes, but you need some accessories. If you'd like more info, shoot me an email at info@cordcuttersli.com
onn android tv box says not enough storage after upgrading storage to 128gb following your tutorial i was downloading games from play store when after a few games it said that
at first everything was good but now my apps are disappearing and my devices feels sluggish. i suspect my otg hub its the culprit. how can i revert the changes to try again later?
Remove the apps you installed on external storage and then eject the USB drive. Start over after replacing the OTG cable.
@@CordCuttersLI thanks
It is possible to add an HDD of 2TB?
You'll need an adapter that can power that. Most HDD's require 12V or 10W.
Set it at fat 32 but when you put it in onn box it promts you to format it so not sure if it stays at fat 32 but it didn't work
I’m having problem’s installing the adb shell. Keeps saying url error. Also it’s not recognizing the usb drive. It says it’s safely ejected
Is there a way I can start over from the beginning?
Can I start all over again?
what about local channels
Lots of apps put there. Browse around the channel for videos on them.
I was almost done with adb shell codes then the box just removed the app
Is this option good for Tivimate recordings? Also is there a 1tb flash drive I can use? Please help?
Now that I have storage on a USB device. Can I change USB sticks to add even more storage?
Hmm, you lost me here. if you change (remove) the USB drive you added, how would you get more by changing to another one?🤔
Why for you have to go thru all those steps on my onn box it formats automatically when you put flash drive in
Most of the apps don`t work properly, constant device freeze, unresponsive, very sluggish, tried 2 different brands of usb and the same problems, the minute I move the apps back to the device everything works like a charm. people need to try this before cheering for it.
Very nice tutorial. Will this work with the Onn stick as well?
Yes, but for the stick you'll need an OTG Cable like this: amzn.to/3eqLwct
@@CordCuttersLI Thank you!
Ever since I did this, I have constant freezing issues that require unplugging the box, dont know if it's related.
It could be a scrappy USB drive. Try going into Settings/device preferences/storage.. eject USB. See if it goes back to normal. Good luck
Why do you have to use all those ADB Shell commands to set up external storage? The TiVo 4K you don’t have to do this with its Android operating system. Is it just a shortcoming with the Onn’s?
Can I use ONN with a 220 V, 50 Hz supply?
I think I might have messed up buying this,
Is there a way to add a camera to it?
Is there any way to expand the memory and attach this to ethernet? I love this box. I dropped Fire TV Cube because of the annoying ads. I tried MECOOL and the sound would come and go. This box runs smoothly and the sound works wonderfully. It was the 4th of the price of MECOOL.
I'm wondering if this possible with my android tv box. I have a internal 2.5 HDD bay and I want to add a 4tb 2.5 ssd drive. Internal HDD bay only reads up to 2tb. In theory can I use this method with adb shell to bypass this limitation. When I put 4tb ssd drive in bay it picks it up but won't mount. If I try this I probably will not need the otg cable correct since drive is picked up by system but not mounted. Any guidance much appreciated
I did this a while back, and it caused my Onn to randomly reboot.
I have unplugged my usb and gave it to a friend. Now how do i install apps back to internal storage?
Since i don’t have my usb pendrive, it always says “Not enough external storage”
Hey Sir, great videos but we are all turning away from the onn box and all new android 12 + because we have not found a way to get to data and obb file. So you can customize kodi or minipulate thumbnails or other internal hacks. So it's kinda a dead device. Have you found commands for adb shell to get into the files? Thank you
Is this still applicable for the new boxes Walmart just made available? This little box rocks but the storage is terrible.
Can you use an otg cable with Ethernet and multiple usb ports?
Yes, I have otg installed, it works fine, only that extending memory doesn't work for me since the apps close it, like what does it cost? It worked with different memories, what have I tried?
Does this method allow the Onn v2 read NTFS format drives?
No, this is FAT32
Hi I did the steps and worked like in the video, but now its very slow and crashes could it be the 64gb flash drive or do i need smaller flash drive
I only have a few app that were moved to usb storage
Thanks very good video
please can you tell me if you can install unknown apps
How to reset onn TV Streaming Box 4k without turning on
You can't add more then 64GB I tried 128 won't work so 64GB flash drive is the maximum extra storage you can add
I am running a 480gb sandisk portable ssd drive on mine and it works just fine. much much much faster than running a usb flash drive also.
@darrenp5053 yea I guess passport extra storage is better option
This must be for the old boxes, doesn't work on the new ones.
That does not appear to be a standard OTG cable, can anyone give me the description of it?
what do you do when your box wont pick-up/recognize your thumb drive i tried everything from un-plugging to full factory reset. i formatted the drive on my computer also.
Did you format the drive as FAT32? If so and your Box doesn't do anything when you plug it in, it could be defective. Do you have another one to try?
Well I did something wrong, now storage only show's internal storage
tried new usb drive and still don't see in storage. can I undo SM commands and start over? or is this ONN done-for good?
And yes I did try factory reset,
The new one officially out!
Is it? Please send me info at info@cordcuttersli.com. Much appreciated.
@@CordCuttersLI Sorry for the late response. I see that you were able to confirm?
@@ShyRage1 Actually no. I see a lot of buzz that the replacement is coming soon, but nothing is available yet that I can see. Do you know something more?
@@CordCuttersLI Well, I found out through reddit. Resellers are buying them out though. I did confirm with my local Walmart. They stated that online buyers are buying them up.
@@CordCuttersLI it's the box. I'm surprised you haven't heard since all the big tech sources online are talking about it already. They are now writing articles about how much better it is.
after "sm partition disk:8,0 private" my onn device always reboot, so what can i do to solve it?
What type of OTG cable do you use?
This box uses the same one as the Amazon FireStick: amzn.to/3xQVVp7
@@CordCuttersLI thank you
I want to clarify that in my onn tv box it only lets me access up to Sm partition disk: 8.0 private then it restarts, only what gets stuck, it stays frozen, I did it with memory of 16, 7,124 gigabytes, when it restarts I no longer do the rest processes and it can now let me use the external memory, only depending on the brand of the Usb it is how the applications work, since I disconnect some memories you connect and it already says that it is not shareable, right now I have a 124 and for now it runs fine, That's why I say I don't know if it's the brand or the type of Usb
Interesting.. thanks for the info!
Maybe the new and improved version of this device will work better when it comes out soon.
I've entered these commands and every time after "sm set-force-adoptable on" it crashes my system and I have to factory reset. I am however using the FHD model onn android stick. Someone please help!
This was specific for the onn tv box version.
@@onteanqui I would've believed that were it not on XDA and developer forums that said that method would work for just about any version of Android. Another tutorial was for an Nvidia shield which is as generic as android TV gets. I found a solution so dumb easy and I'm pretty sure encompasses all android TV's. Go in dev options scroll to the bottom and tick "force external storage" or something of that nature after formatting the USB and that's literally it. I spent SEVERAL HOURS which I could've probably just worked to buy an NVIDIA Shield but I like my Onn stick so I'm calling this project a win!
@@ShamPayne4Sure Gracias!, lo intentaré así.
@@ShamPayne4Sure No me funcionó, : (.
@@worldcuriouscat9127 If that's your way of saying "it didn't work for me," I've tried this on 3 different Onn android Boxes. Not all apps will work, and is usually even slower. Most apps in my experience do. So after enabling "force external storage," you have to go to the specific app you want to move to your external drive and click on storage and select your external drive. Hope this helps! 🙏
the ip u put on adb shell is ur own ip ?
You use that same IP address too.
@@CordCuttersLI thank you great video btw
Why not add a sd card slot to the device
How to jailbreak it???
Hey I have the ONN Box now when It comes on the screen goes Black after the Boot up screen. Anybody know how to fix or factory reset without seeing the screen? Thanks
I think if you hold in the reset button on the side for at least 10 seconds, it will restart and reset to factory settings. I have not tried it myself, but I can look at this later and let you know. Give that a try and let me know if it works for you. If not, I'll definitely do it and let you know.
@@CordCuttersLI So ONN Box had a update my dumb azz😌 left Developer Options turned on, luckily I was able to talk to Google (via assistant button on remote) go to settings and turned off reboot and everything was all good😎 . THANKS
Oh and No holding the reset button only lets u reset remote

Which version of the Onn. Streaming Box do you have? This video is for the AndroidTV 2021 (Not GoogleTV 2023) version
@@CordCuttersLI Goole tv version
Do you have a new version for the 2023?
Don’t Easter your time, Google removed the ability to add extra storage.

The newer 2023 version video for adding storage is coming up.
I remove the memory and it tells me that a solution is not sharable, I also notice that it takes time to read the memory, since the app closes it, like why is it hard to open the app, the TV box slows down, any solution?

Does this device play videos from an ntfs hard drive or ssd?
If there there is a tutorial for that, please direct me to it, else please make one, it could be really helpful.
Old tv with FHD could play 4K crisp SDR content
It will only recognize Hard Drives (SSD or HDD) if formatted FAT32 if connected via USB. You can connect to something shared on your network that might have hard drives with those other formats.
