Bought one of these PEAK analyzers from Anatek and got super fast delivery. Just 2 days and it was at my front door. Found several bad caps right away with it. Now I check any newly purchased caps for ESR BEFORE I ever install them. Saves future headaches!

Entertaining Video, but also very good explanation of how to properly use and misuse these devices. I'm very thankful for your tutorial. I've watched others but I believe yours is one of the most definitive and it has helped me decide on a purchase.

The ERS70 can also measure the capacity at the same time, that's the reason, why it discharges capacitors before measurement. This helps a lot to easily see if there are other capacitors in parallel. If the measured capacity is higher than the value expected than there are definitely more than one capacitor in parallel. This also helps to find out if there is one damaged capacitor. Just sum the stated values of all the capacitors in parallel up and compare it to your measured value. If it is way of, you have at least one bad capacitor.
This is the main reason why i think the ESR70 is better than the Blue ESR.

I have the older Peak Atlas ERS 70+ with the gold plated crocks that are not detachable. So I picked up a set of 4 pack sewing machine needles size 14 for a couple bucks (one and a half inches long). I was able to attach them to the crocks since they are squared on the one end and very sharp on the termination point, perfect for probing capacitors in circuit. The best part, I was able to zero out the meter for accurate in circuit testing, the firmware allowed extra play in the set up. Since I live in Canada I thought about sending it back to the manufacture for a firmware and detachable lead upgrade, but I did the math and felt it would be cheaper to replace than upgrade. So I have decided to stick with the above mentioned since it worked so well.

You should compare these to the cheap Chinese ones , MESR-100 and the real cheap one 7 bucks ATMEGA328 its pretty damn good for 7 bucks. And it does more than just caps. And all testing so far suggest they are very accurate as well .

More, you have specific warning against highly charged devices that could destroy the ESR70, just read the manual!

He was a hard working man. Ran the entire company out of a small room off the back of his house. During the day, his daughter would help out with orders, and do clerical work while he replenished stock orders. The video concept was a very new idea for him at the time. Customers began asking for videos on assembly, and usage... and John thusly began shooting videos as a way to answer those demands. John was killed just one month after this video was shot; struck by a texting teenager while getting his mail, not 500 feet from where this video was made. John had plans to expand the video production, and I tried to help him (the videos were terrible, but the memories of working with John were some of my best). Have a nice day.
