Two flat earth engineers were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking at its top. A sphericist walked by and asked what they were doing.
"We're supposed to find the height of this flagpole," said a flat earther, "but we don't have a ladder."
The sphericist took a wrench from a bag, loosened a couple of bolts, and laid the pole down on the ground.
The sphericist took a tape measure from the bag, took a measurement and announced, "Twenty one feet, six inches," and walked away.
One flat earther shook his head and laughed, "Typical sphericist ! We ask for the height and the sphericist gives us the length!"

Don't worry, there's different flavors of bullshit in every country!
E.g., it's hard to find a flat-earther in the former USSR (at least, yet). However, there's torsion-field "researchers" and bio-resonance "healers" and all sorts of conspiracy quacks. I think flat earth just doesn't resonate with the locals because atheism is a lot more prevalent here, and without creationists, you lose a ton of potential flerfs. Nibiru, however, sounds exciting and sci-fi-ish, so that's a huge hit around these parts!
So fret not! I'm sure there's at least some flavor of BS that British quacks came up with - and that their fans across the pond gobbled up and couldn't get enough of. Aren't the reptiloids a British idea? :D

You obviously slept during school. Sailors used/use sextants to navigate the SEA-LEVEL oceans. Same stars in the sky(then and now, like clockwork). Here's a simple ? for you. Google this ?, word for word, How far is it across Lake Michigan from Chicago? Here's the answer, "Chicago is 59 miles from the opposite shore of Lake Michigan. Given the earth's curvature, it should be 2320 feet below the horizon. On a clear day, with my telescope or telephoto lens, I can see all the skyline including shoreline. Can't do that on a round Earth. Wake up, most of your schooling was all lies.

    • @K4ution_FGC
      @K4ution_FGC Před 9 měsíci

@@stephend9899 Sextants work by measuring the angle between a celestial body (like the sun or a star) and the horizon. The principle behind a sextant is based on the spherical nature of Earth. If the Earth were flat, there wouldn’t be a consistent angle to measure no matter where on Earth you were. If Earth were flat, Polaris (used frequently for Northern Hemisphere navigation) would either be visible from everywhere or from nowhere. If it were always directly above the North Pole, as many flat Earth proponents argue, then its angle of elevation would remain nearly constant as you move "inward" or "outward" from the North Pole. But this isn't what we observe. Instead, as you move southward, the angle of Polaris above the horizon decreases until it's no longer visible once you're in the Southern Hemisphere.
In the Southern Hemisphere, navigators use the Southern Cross and other stars to find their latitude. On a flat Earth model, the entirety of the Southern Hemisphere poses problems. How can people in Australia, South Africa, and South America all see the same set of stars directly to their south on the same night? On a flat Earth, they would be looking in drastically different directions, but on a spherical Earth, they are all looking towards the same southern celestial pole.

@@user-hf9jr1qm4i Basics is that celestial navigation is you use the relative position of multiple stars to trilaterate where you are on Earth
To do it accurately you want the angle between the star and your true horizon (a flat line from where you're standing)
But you don't have that unless you have the sextant on the ground at sea level as there your distance to the horizon is O Once you go at all above sea level then you're viewing angle is sloping slightly downwards towards your visible horizon, and that slope increases the higher you go, which would then add inaccuracies to your measurements.
So you offset this with the use of dip correction, which is the angle, based on your height above sea level, that you subtract away from your observed angle to remove that excess caused by the slope

Actually, it is quite easy to calculate the height of the flat earth sun without needing any elevation angles.
All you need to do is calculate the distance the FE sun travels in one hour. Then take a point directly beneath the half way distance between those two positions, creating an isosceles triangle with an apex angle of 15 degrees. From that you get the height of the sun.
It then becomes interesting because it will show the height of the FE sun must change considerably as it moves between the Tropics, thus showing it must also vary in size to retain its angular size.
You can also work out what its elevation angle must be from any point on the FE.
It then becomes very apparent, the whole concept of the flat earth sun is utter nonsense.

Here he responded that we are crazy to believe that when you have something "small" like "a meter" that you have to divide it by 1000 to get "something big" like a kilometer. It just shows he has absolutely no idea about what a unit is. He can't even understand his own conceptional mistake. Since he fails at this level of understanding, you can't expect him to understand anything even slightly more complex.

First of all, great video Dave.
    Now then;
I am a Professional Merchant Navy Captain, and active with doing Celestial Navigation. For work and hobby. So hearing Oakley say "Dunning-Kruger much" is really funny to hear. In all the discussions I had with Oakley and his minions, they claimed to know more about celestial navigation than a professional like me.
After I said that they never did CelNav, and I do. They claimed that I was lying. Even though I showed the method twice on youtube already. Once in a debunking video of myself, and once in a live show of MCToon.
I am currently making a CelNav video calculating all with the Nautical tables and Almanac. No calculator or calculating programs will be used. But it will take some time because it is very busy at work for the moment, and the times off at home are very short this period.

2:12 When I was younger I had a bit of a fascination with star constellations. It was a little disheartening to find that, growing up in Australia, I had never (and still haven't to this day) seen Polaris.
The video later brings up the issue of how we get our longitude measurements down here (and the issue of where "south" is), but what I want is to see a flat earther try to explain how Polaris and the Southern Cross (and all the equatorial constellations) appear in geometric space. For Polaris it's easy to "explain" how it can be north for everyone, just put it in the middle. Not sure how that stops us Aussies from seeing it, probably something something refraction (Also doesn't that invalidate their Mercator projection maps? If all longitude lines are parallel like in Mercator, how can they all point to a single north star?)
So then how, for the countries that can see it, is the Southern Cross always (roughly) south? The only way to consistently explain it is if a single, fixed-point South Pole also exists to mirror a single, fixed-point North Pole. So where is that? How do you create two points above a surface where
    - One of them is only visible from half of the earth,
    - The other only from the other half,
    - Longitude lines always run through both points ("north" and "south" have consistent meaning everywhere on earth, and will always point to/from Polaris or somewhere near the Southern Cross),
    - And have a bunch of equatorial constellations also being visible from BOTH halves?
A globe, that's how. Either that, or all Aussies (not to mention South Americans and most Africans) are in on the conspiracy, to the point that we put the fake Cross on our flag just to mess with you all.

Yes he’s seems just quoting the name of a fallacy means he gets to automatically win. Just all it really shows is that he has no idea what those things are or how to use them in a debate. All any fallacy does is give you an angle of attack nothing more. In a proper debate you still need to show how your opponent is wrong.
NO does not debate and he’s also incredibly lazy.

Even if nobody understood a thing you said in this video you won the argument as soon as you played that guys response.
Brilliantly done! He is hoping to make you mad so you will respond in anger, to pull you to his level. He knows deep down you're right.

Dave just to let you know that in my opinion your debunking videos are by far the best. You analyse the arguments and give a considered explanation. In addition you don't cut in every few seconds. Ok actually I like the dog.

Taking to these people you have to be really kind and calm. It’s like talking to a toddler, the moment they felt like they are wrong and stupid, they would get angry at you and calling you names instead of attack the argument itself. I talk to them once, set out all reasons in bullet points and they never discuss Anything about the point I made, just calling me names and “you don’t know that”. While I cleared explaining it to them.
