    My logic says when the cougar hits the road again they ought to be passengers.

    The srory of the nephew recounting the aunt telling him as a kid while riding as a passenger in this car to put on his seatbelt as they waited for the light to turn green as they were being challenged by the car next to them, then when the light turned green she "smoked'm" was priceless.

    Wow I bought my 67XR7 in similar fashion with 32k on the odometer. Took 2 weeks to get it running. 6 months later I brought it back to the original owners out of respect. I chased that car for 25 years and after the husband passed the wife told me she was so happy it went to me. She gave me a homemade sweater which still rides in the car. Great story on this cougar.

    I had a new 68 302, 4 bbl, 4 spd, with factory AC as my first car. Light metallic blue with white interior. I was 16, working full time and going to school full time. I blew the trans in it on the way from Reno to Vegas at about 90 MPH in the rain. Very exciting when it locked up and when into a slide. Sold the car to pay for college. Should have kept it, I could have paid for a large part of my Daughters college. Added an 8-track, 4 speakers, cut-outs, glass packs, air-shocks in the rear and American Mags all around.

    THIS is what Cougar enthusiasts all dream about!!! Of course, we dream that we can buy it for 2500 bucks too. :) I'm a long time Classic Cougar enthusiast, have e-chatted with Royce and Jim many times. They are probably the two best-known and well respected members of the Classic Cougar Community. I also see Don Rush has commented - he is THE MAN to go to when you need parts, I got a feeling he'll be supplying some goodies for the restoration. Can't believe these 'barn finds' are still out there. I love how supposed 'Ford' People and other muscle car fans will argue til their face turns Ford blue that you could never get a 427 side-oiler in Cougar from the factory! hahaha. You could. But you could NOT get a Mustang 'W'- code!!

      @@thewriter2549 No, this was from about Jan - June of 69. The first outing to Freemont he did 14.27 @ 101 and change. He had cut the hood and if I remember, swapped the distributor for a dual-point ball bearing version? one. He worked for Philco Ford too, I believe. The original block had been replaced by then too.

    The Cougar was the only car the 427 was offered in 1968...and as I understand it you didn't get a choice, the car was sold as a 7 liter and you either got a 427 or a 428...mostly 428's. The 427 is the W code with one 4150 holley carb, hydraulic lifters, single point vacuum advance distributer, and 10.9:1 compression and could have either an aluminum or cast iron intake manifold depending on the date it rolled off the plant line...definitely a running car but not quite the Race engine the R codes were.

      Well at least you'll always have those memories. Hahaha, $650 for a 67 Cougar big block. Obviously it was more money back then but still. Ah the FE block 390. I've always had a fondness for the FE block engines as well, 352, 360, 390, 428 and there was a surprising amount of more configurations with the FE. Remember the Cammer 427 FE with the miles long timing chain? Was banned from certain race organizations because it won too much. My memory is a little spotty on it but it was something like that. Too bad that was never a very accessible engine.

    I almost bought one with no motor back in 1999 for $2000 but when I came back with the money 2 hours later he changed his mind. Lesson, never negotiate a deal without the cash on hand. Still stings today.

      Sure John, I'm a big Celtics basketball fan and the music is of Celtic origin called "Long Road Ahead." I used this song in a video tribute, which I kept private, to my mom and dad, but I wish everybody could see.

    Thumbs up only because the buyer didn't rip the owners off at $60,000. Fair price. Video could have did without the woman's swirly emotional feelings but the look in the old man's eyes is priceless, grinning from ear to ear sleeping on a pile of money every night. He knew that car was a rod slinging headache turd. 😂🤣

    Never seen a hood like that before, come to think of it, dont think i have seen one of these with a factory big block before. Thats a pretty rare piece... if it were only a four speed. Still hate those Pinto shifters... weak and anemic looking. The emotion of those folks could not go un-noticed, its like losing a member of your family.

      @thepyrodude Před 6 lety +2

      TheCanadianBubba they were mustang and cougar shifters long before the pinto hahahaha

    • @TheCanadianBubba
      @TheCanadianBubba Před 6 lety +1

      I know... just spouting... they look proper for a little four banger like a pinto, not for fox bodies or the Bronco's we saw them installed in.

      TheCanadianBubba i cannot and will not deny or debate that fact they definitely sucked both in looks and fuction.....the pinto ones are reverse patern from the cougar and stangs....i have a pinto shifter in my 68 only way anyone can tell is when its in park the shifter reads 1st instead of park
