- This is a realtime car journey down Normaton Road in Derby at 7am on 15th August 2012. If you use Normanton Road on a regular basis at different times of the day then you will know that this has to be one of the worse roads to drive on in Derby.
I took this video to proove how quick you can actually drive down this road when there are no people about!
I think everyone that has driving lessons in Derby should be made to drive on Normanton Road as it "features" pretty much every driving hazzard you could ever imagine including some that you would never see in a lifetime. Such as...
Cyclist that ride on the wrong side of the road or change from the pavement to the road and back. Example here : • Normanton road jizda
Nobody seems to indicate so you never no where people are going.
People walking out in front of you with big boxes.
cars pulling out of parking spaces right in front of you.
Car doors sudenly being flung open as you drive past them.
trucks reversing out into the road.
Double yellow lines and disabled parking spaces don't mean anything on this road!
The main problem is caused by PAK foods which is very popular but is not suitable to have on a road like this. A great shop with some good bargains but it would be better where there was good parking for them.
I really feel sorry for bus drivers (Arriva 41 route) on this route as it must be stressfull.
In my video here you can see I manage to drive all the way down Normanton Road in just 1 minutes and 20 seconds. If you were to try this during the day, then expect it to take 5-15 minutes sometimes.

Very rare to see Normanton Rd literally empty, it's usually full of idiots just walking out in front of you...
Once the shops open, the place comes to life. I've lived just off Normo road For well over 2 decades, And if i need to drive anywhere , I avoid Normanton Road like the plague, Its just not worth it, As the downloader mentions in the description , Expect the unexpected,

Used to live at various flats and squats around the place back in the 70s through to the 90s. Love Normo Rd but it looks much better when it's all open and bustling. Visited again last year on a hot summer's late afternoon and the odours and the buzz were amazing. Best bit of Derby.

I go up and down normanton road everyday :) like he said its safe if your not looking for trouble.
It is safe around here, there is always trouble if you look for it
