Over the years before Linux became a viable platform, I ran a succession of paid-for Unix systems as a public access UUCP (Usenet) and mail server from my home. USL System III, SysV r3.2, BSD, and SysV 4.x. I had 6 POTS lines, and a pool of modems. Ran just fine.
