    I put a hot take saying that power ups are mid compared to the Kirby series. A normal Mario game has about 6 power ups and don’t have a lot of functions. Kirby series has a whole move set with unique attacks that also interact with the world at times. If you were to talk about a normal Mario power up, like the super acorn. You would only mention something about it’s upward fly. How it can waddle in the air? It’s ability to jump on walls and increased spin jump. However, a Kirby ability like spark is crazy! Have a normal spark shield, being able to use static electricity to blast energy into enemies! Being able to strike thunder upwards and downwards. A unique shield to protect the player with static electricity again. And that is just one of the most BASIC copies in the game!

    My hot take is that games that are relatively shallow on launch but will have free updates in the near future (like Nintendo Switch Sports or the mario Sports games on the switch) shouldn't be considered "unfinished" games. That practice is actually not evil. It's a genius compromise between delaying a game and rushing it out. Some people want to play games sooner rather than later, so delaying it will upset them. Others want more substance in their games and would rather wait to play them. The big crucial detail is that these games aren't actually buggy messes like Sonic 06 and pokemon Gen 9. What we get is well polished and enjoyable. So calling them unfinished is kind of a lie. It is finished, but we'll get more of it for free later. Minecraft does the same thing, and nobody complains about that game being unfinished! Using this method, people have the option of getting the game right away or waiting for the free update. If you want it now, you can have it. If you wanna wait, go right ahead. That doesn't mean that the game is bad or that it's released unfinished. It's simply a way for the developers to finish the game and release it on time without rushing it! They aren't evil for doing this. They're just being smart and trying to make everyone happy. We're all just too stupid to realize their brilliance.

    I honestly do think 3D World is better than Odyssey, not because Odyssey is bad, it's excellent, but I honestly think 3D World itself is one of, if not the best mainline title, but that's mostly because I prefer the level-by-level structure over the open world areas that games like 64 & Odyssey have. Also I agree with Ultra Mario here, Super Circuit I enjoyed a lot, and while I wouldn't say it's the best Mario Kart game (64 and 8 Deluxe (and according to my dad, the original SNES game) exist) it's still one of the best. Gotta agree that 3D World is the best Mario game. It takes the more linear approach of the Galaxy games and converts it to a stage-by-stage format like the 2D games. The pacing is flawless, the level design is the best in a Mario game since the 2D era, and the stage-by-stage format allows for more gimmicks to be introduced at any given moment. I also prefer Champion's Road to Perfect Run in difficulty and enjoyment. The fact they brought the 4 playable characters feature from SMB2 is brilliant (plus Rosalina after Star-2).

    I actually think mario kart tour is the best mario kart game. The art style fits the mario franchise very well, and I like the controls... for being a mobile game anyway. Updating the game every 2 weeks just keeps me excited for what's coming next, and don't get me started on all the characters. It has the most playable characters in any mario game, and the alts haver very good designs. The music could be better though, although it has been getting better. I mean, pirahna plant cove and athens dash sound like they were from a console game. The gatcha mechanics have been reduced, so now you get to choose which drivers, karts and gliders you want, although they are expensive. The drivers are 150 rubies, new drivers have a discount, setting it to 105, and the karts and gliders are 100 rubies (high end drivers karts and gliders anyway, normal and super take coins, and are pretty cheap). I've actually found a way to keep my rubies at around 100-200 every tour without paying any real money, and also buying new drivers. Then again, I have been playing since before multiplayer was a thing...
    Oh, and here's a tip to get the controls feeling a bit better. Make it landscape, with manual drift turned off, and steer / drift button display on. Then choose left / right controls that feel good to you. Believe me, the controls will be much easier to master with this setup.

    @TheAbsol7448 Před rokem +1

    Honestly, 64 still has the best controls out of any 3D Mario game. If you think it's "too slippery," then you probably just don't have a very good grasp on how momentum works in the game. I think Mario taking a short moment to stop actually feels great, as it makes Mario feel like he actually has weight.
    And Mario having that weight allows you to do a lot of cool things. You can pick up quite a lot of speed and you have ways to _conserve_ that speed. You can long jump, dive and rollout, slide kick, or you could even _increase_ your speed if you get a lucky first frame wallkick. If you need to stop on a dime, there are ways to do that, too. You don't slip forward if you land on the ground from the air, even if you're going at absurd speeds.

    I actually really liked wave 1, it might even be my favourite wave. Sure, the tracks are visually less detailed than the other waves or especially the base game, but they are just so fun to play on in a way that very few other tracks in the game are. Tracks like Coconut Mall, Shroom Ridge and Paris Promenade are all contenders for an S-tier track in my opinion and Ninja Hideaway is my favourite track to play on in possibly the whole series even. That's a whole half of the wave that I consider to be among the best courses in Mario Kart 8 and the other half of the wave is also pretty solid and still okay at worst. The other waves, however, only have like 1 or 2 tracks per wave that I would hold at the same high as the wave 1 tracks, and each wave after wave 1 also has at least 1 track that I absolutely don't like at all. The super plasticky artstyle of wave 1 is also kinda charming in its own unique way and I definitely don't hate how they look either.

    Idk if this is a hot take or not but I like Galaxy 2 better than Galaxy 1 because it's more polished, better looking and has much more to it. There's Yoshi, changing environments/platforms, cosmic coins which has you explore the levels more, a decent co-op. Yoshi in Galaxy 2 was the best Yoshi in any Mario game since you controlled his tongue with motion control which gave pin point accuracy. Yoshi himself even gets powerups. collecting the green stars in 2 is much better than replaying the whole game as a different character in 1. It also brought back older platforming mechanics and improved upon them like sliders and gliding.

    My hot takes are that: Odyssey should've been Galaxy 3 then evolved into a better fleshed out Odyssey and continued after there; Waluigi Pinball is one of the best tracks to be added in the Booster Pass and will continue to be; we need a break from Mario-protag games or whichever sports game they would normally do when they do decide to not do a main game where they do more Captain Toad/Yoshi style games, maybe not specifically those characters but maybe give Waluigi his first full game or why not another RPG? Ik the latest Paper Mario kind of takes that spot but at the same time it was also a Paper Mario game and the only character you got to control was Mario, not like the classic RPG specific games

    My biggest hot take is that Mario Party 9 is one of the most underrated Nintendo games of all time, and most people who hate on it haven't given it a proper chance. People may feel that the car mechanic was an unnecessary gimmick, but to me it gives the boards a great sense of progression. The Mini Stars are a great mechanic, and honestly I'd argue, they fit the Mario Party series better as a reward system than that of the star. There's just something satisfying about steadily building up your Mini Star count over time.
    Another complaint that many people have is the fact that the game offers little to no strategy, which is something I have to disagree on. When you're behind in a game, you always have a decent chance of catching up. The captain Mini Games, the extra dice blocks, Bowser Revolution, and battle for half of your mini stars are all skill-based, and they make the game have a great balance between luck and skill. Besides, Mario Party is supposed to be mostly luck based with a decent amount of skill, just like every other Mario Party.
    The Minigames in Mario Party 9 game are on point, with not that many luck-based ones. I genuinely can't think of a single minigame, that isn't fun (besides the luck based ones.) They all offer a unique experience, with lots of creativity, and unlike what most people think, they appear about once every round as well, not to mention the awesome boss fights, the big variety of Bowser Junior minigames,
    The boards feel super lively with great, memorable music on every single one of them. There are always some extra details, which make the boards really well themed. Every board is dealt into segments, and every segment feels unique from one another. I especially love the nervy segment in Magma Mine when the magma is slowly rising, and if it hits you, you lose half of your mini stars. You can screw your opponents over by choosing a direction which guarantees them to get hit by the rising magma.
    Every board has a cool Captain Minigame where the captain makes a decision on who does what (depending on captain minigame you're playing.) These games are really fun, and they give the captain some control, trying to maximize their chances of collecting some mini stars, and minimizing their 'number one threat' of receiving some.
    Also, Mario Party 9 is the the game in the series with the biggest selection of boards with a grand total of 7.
    My favorite part of the game though, has to be the single player campaign. People tend to complain about Mario Party only being a series for multiplayer, while completely ignoring the fact that Mario Party 9 has the best single player experience in the series (seriously if you have the chance, try it.) It all starts out with Mario and his friends starring at the beautiful mini star-scattered sky, before Bowser and his son (Bowser Junior) decide to ruin the moment by pulling all of the mini stars in with some zapper-thingy. Mario and his friends then proceed to go out on a mission to recover all of the stolen mini stars. Simple but sweet, and the most fun I've had with a single player campaign in the Mario Party franchise.
    If you haven't yet, I'd highly recommend giving Mario Party 9 a proper chance. It's a lot of fun.

    I agree with the take on sm64, I played it and enjoyed it, but then I played the other two games in 3d All-Stars, and realised that I much prefere the (more restrictive, yes) much smoother feel Galaxy had to me. I also really like the spin as a form of mid air correction that is not too powerful (cough cough Peach' dress). In sm64, I constantly find myself getting annoyed at the level design, which is creative but dated, the castle I don't particularly find that enjoyable to explore, and for me the final straw is the bumbing your head when wall jumping thing, it bogs down the gameplay so much.

    • @TheAbsol7448
      @TheAbsol7448 Před rokem +1

      I do think Galaxy feels smoother, but a lot of that has to do with the differing framerates. And while Galaxy feels great to play, I think its gameplay only really works for Galaxy, whereas it'd feel kinda bad in an actual sandbox. (I think the Thwomps Fortress level in Galaxy 2 feels weird, whereas Beach Bowl Galaxy feels like it was actually designed around Galaxy.)
      I think SM64 feels a lot better because there's so much more you can do with the controls. Sunshine would also be great if Mario actually controlled well. The mechanics are all very cool concept, but I hate how there's no sense of momentum. Mario feels very twitchy and awkward, and not grounded at all.

    3DS Rainbow Road is the worst Rainbow Road in Mario Kart 8. There's no shortcuts or alternate routes, so every race feels the same, and the layout itself isn't all that engaging to me, especially the few turns before the moon. The moon section was also butchered. This is because of the anti-gravity added, which sticks you to the ground, meaning it doesn't really feel like you're on the moon. In fact, modding the game to remove the anti-gravity actually makes the section much more fun, as you actually feel like you're on the moon.

    My hot take is that I wish Mario had way more RPG style games (outside of Paper Mario and the Mario and Luigi series). I feel like Mario has such a big world that can always be explored, especially as more characters and more worlds are added that can be blended in an RPG. I know other games have done that like Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi, however Paper Mario in particular has run out of ideas and don’t use characters or worlds in previous Mario games, and Mario and Luigi just stopped making good stories imo and for both the gameplay has become more and more gimmicky, which sure makes the games not stale. However some gimmicks just don’t work imo. I want a game with more gameplay like Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars. But most importantly I just want a story that’s good and memorable. I just feel like Nintendo in general is wasting their IP, there are so many characters and enemies throughout Mario’s history, and I feel like not only could they be explored more, but can also be transformed into something more memorable and meaningful than just a gimmick of sorts for a game that’s there and no one remembers it. I‘m probably the only one on the planet who thinks that but I prefer Starship Mario over the Planet Observatory. Sure, overworlds like Peach‘s Castle or Delfino Plaza are definitely better, but the Observatory isn’t interesting enough to be worth running around in so often, it’s just so empty. The castle was a little empty too, but it was a big labyrinth with tons of hidden stuff. Delfino was way smaller, but filled with tons of characters and cozy vibes and all sorts of small activities you can do. But the Observatory is the worst of both worlds, it’s small and simple AND you can‘t do much. The athmosphere also gets old quick compared to the Delfino Plaza. Once you‘ve been in every dome once, you‘ve seen everything of the map and running around to certain levels is pointless. Starship Mario addresses this and makes the hub more dense while filling it with more characters over time, making it feel more alive and cozy while removing the need to interact with it if you don’t feel like it and just want to go to the levels. The changing skybox depending on the World you’re in is also a nice touch. So yeah. Starship Mario good, even if it’s not a satisfying direction for the series and for the future I definitely hope for something that’s either exploratory like the castle or as cozy and dense as Delfino Plaza again. And I‘m certain that once we get it, fans will be nicer to Starship Mario the same way they were nicer to 3DWorld and 3DLand after Odyssey came out

    And I either 100% or near 100% all of them. Of those Mario 64 was the only one of those I didn't enjoy, by a *huge* margin. It's weird, because I love watching other people play it, but the controls and camera are just so clunky it doesn't feel remotely fun to play. I wanted to throw my controller through a wall at every opportunity.
