Ah yes, the words "industrial" and "noise" right above a 9/10 score.
Just how I love my melon
More like dark prog imo

We have Charli in the pop sphere but a good chunk of Melon's audience dislikes pop because of their "quirky tastes" as evidenced by their top albums of the decade.
Oh, also Melon's majesty, the almighty dorian electra.
This album is unbearable lmao
Yeah the vocals are cringey af. This was the worst 9/10 I’ve ever heard.
I'm starting to think Melon actually enjoys music
musthony ictano?
impossible
too far fetched sorry
yeah I dunno about that theory
Ok chill dude. That's a hot take.
And now they're disbanding because of stalking, transphobic comments and delivered tries to "cancel" them. Just fantastic thanks Internet
Is that real?? It seems they got removed on apple music, I can't find them
Is this the reason why this beautiful piece of art is gone? I hate people.
luckily they’re still on Bandcamp. Still, people are really fucking disgusting

Fun fact: This album hit number 1 on the RYM charts for albums in 2020. i think it had smething like a 3.8/5 average. Once it got a bunch more attention from being number 1 its score dropped down to 3.09/5. Truly isn't for everyone
I followed Devi back when she did mlp fan music in 2012 and if you had told me then that one of her future projects would be getting a 9/10 by Fantano... I might have believed it tbh
Still awesome to see though
ikr 😂
Honestly of all the people from that scene she's the last I'd expect... I maintain that Before These Mighty Skies would have entered the indie canon had it not come from the fandom
Send an example
What's her MLP stuff? I may have heard it.
@@DrainedGaming She released 2 albums and 1 EP of MLP fan music, as Cats Millionaire. "Pony Songs", "Fun Fun Fun" ad "I'm So Sorry". Idk if people who don't get the references will enjoy it much though. I'd recommend checking "Yellow Horse" or the "I'm So Sorry" EP for starters.

@@crysiscore2051 You're telling me OK Computer isn't the best work of music of all-time? And that the top 10 list of albums shouldn't be 50% Radiohead and Pink Floyd?
Erik Jo I will accept the Pink Floyd love on that list, but Radiohead has never made even Like a top 500 album, let alone top 5
Claymore Gang Always found Floyd overrated, but very influential so if someone wants to put Animals in top 10 that's fine, but not 3 Floyd albums. Similarly I can see a Radiohead album at top 100 at least, a lot of artists have mimicked their style.
Erik Jo what would you consider top 10 all time?
And they disbanded, great
Yeah... Rook and McCallion are still making music in other projects tho.

Thank you Anthony Fantano for giving exposure to lots of trans artists, it’s very hard for me to feel like my identity has cultural relevance in art with how much it is suppressed, but seeing your review of Sophie’s first album has allowed me to go on a rabbit hole journey of discovering new trans artists, Uboa, 100 Gecs, Against Me, Dorian Electra, glass beach, and it circled back with this review. You are appreciated as an ally.
It's not hard though, I think due to their unique personal challenges the trans community has long produced more than their share of really creative artists. Ever since wendy carlos it seems like there's a lot of trans women in electronic music, especially the more underground scene
glass beach is trans?
Joshua Sichel Classic J uses they/them pronouns, and theres a lot of stuff about HRT and performative femininity in their songs.
You really got to check out Arca as well if you havent already!
As a trans woman i resent this. Anthony i am revoking your gold star

This is the first video of yours I'm seeing! Obviously that means I'm a Black Dresses fan but I'm still really excited to hear other peoples opinion on them, especially those who appear to be really knowledgeable about music. Just hearing all the other works you feel they were inspired by, or that they have thing sin common with really makes me want to go and check out some of the artists you mentioned. I've always had a hard time describing Black Dresses to friends, and often those points of contrast that you mention like "Harsh, Punchy and Sweet" is what I tend to focus on as its what I love (and some others hate) about them. I can never put just a single genre on them or give a simple explanation, and those dynamic and complex elements is why I love their music so much. It was fun and interesting hearing you word this all much better than I ever have and I will definitely check out more of your reviews!
Please do, I've found tons of music threw this channel. Just don't take his ratings to heart, and definitely don't take the comments at face value

@@sirpeetthelittle as much as I love their music, you have to admit their being a bit overdramatic. If you care what people say on the internet, you ain't gonna make it.
@@massive_legend_here4720 from their statement it sounds like they never wanted to "make it". They said they didn't expect that album to get any attention. So it makes sense dropping the band, it's not like theyre retiring as creatives altogether.
@@massive_legend_here4720 also people were stalking and doxxing her, constantly harrasing her abt childhood sexual assaukt. This isnt some normal case of trolling
R.I.P Black Dresses. Psycho stalker fans ruined everything :(
what? i thought it was fans on tik tok sexualizing a song about her childhood sexual assault experience
well, no. devi was also being harassed and i think she was also fed up with creepy black dresses fans on twitter and others who misappropriate their music or act as if they have ownership of the band or their music.
@@ayyyjericha163 Oh so that's what happend. That fucking sucks honestly.
I think the breakup is stupid, because after having been introduced to this killer band through what is undoubtedly their best work, I'm now left with the realization that I won't get anything else from them. :(
GamingOS Devi made a post saying they’d put out what they already wrote but no more after that so we might get at least one more project. There’s almost definitely going to be more Devi + Rook music but not under the name black dresses. Their solo stuff is pretty good also so check that out

1,347 votes with an average of 3.09 out of 5 stars.
Just curious, let's see in a week or so.
It was sitting at 3.90ish + the #1 from 2020 about a week after release.
It went up for the first hour or two and then RYM apparently removed all the ratings cause it went back to 1347
@@Malkovith2Having been a fan of Black Dresses from their first project and having listened to all their music extensively I strongly disagree with Melon on this one. I don't believe this to be their best project to date, rather, their worst.
@Adam Wayne I'm not going to expound as you'll only get a subjective opinion on each album. What I would suggest is listening to each album of theirs and then you'll probably know what I mean. If you are already familiar with them all let me know and I'll be happy to discuss the merits/drawbacks of each release with you.
marc craig I agree that it isn’t their best, but that’s mainly because Love and Affection was a near perfect album for me. It doesn’t have a song like STATIC that leaves me absolutely speechless but it’s growing on me every day.
