Finally, someone who made it without green peas and carrots! This is the rice I grew up on in Chicago. Thanks for sharing!!
Peas and carrots is some American version and does NOT taste good
I never had peas and carrots in fried rice until I left St. Louis, MO. I was disgusted to learn that in other states, in addition to peas and carrots, the rice was yellow or light in color, no beans sprouts, no eggs, no flavor. When I realized they didn't make a St. Paul sandwiches and that most restaurants were using rodent and scavenger meats. I learned to make my own.
This is a good tutorial for rice 👍. I use a lil fish oil to replace the oyster sauce that most asian restaurants use, bc I don't eat shell fish. I add my sesame oil mixed with avacado oil in the beginning. Not sure if it makes a difference.
The cities that appalled my fried rice expectations and had no idea what a St. Paul Sandwich is: Memphis & Jackson TN, Los Angeles CA, Newark & Jersey City NJ, All NY, NC, GA and Houston TX. But I've been free of "Authentic" Chinese Restaurant foods since 2010/2011. I learned that the St. Paul is not authentic Chinese and is specific to STL.
Omg yes I was born and raised in Chicago as well. Nothing compares to Chicago Chinese fried rice 😂
I was just talking about fried rice from st Louis last night. That is a Fridsh night family dinner. No peas and carrots! I miss St Louis and fried rice!
Ruined
I'm a single dad of three teenage boys. I tried this fried rice yesterday and it was a big hit. Super easy and fast. (After the rice is cool) I doubled the recipe and we ate it as a main dish. Thanks for showing me how easy it really is. 👍
I love this lady's voice. Soft, calm and feminine.
patrick williams Do you ever notice that so many women no longer have a feminine voice-very strident. You can have equal rights and still be feminine.
Definitely

Amazing
Bean Sprouts & Sesame Oil - For the win!!! Thank you for sharing all your amazing recipes, Simply Mama Cooks!! I always learn a lot from you!
Finally, someone who didn't use peas and carrots in their fried rice. You also used green onions and bean sprouts. This is very close to the recipe that I like. Only thing missing was the addition of egg(s). Thank you for sharing. I will be trying this.
Fried rice is when I empty the veg. bin of what ever but I always add eggs. For me that is the little treat. (and the only protein)
That egg is such a staple
The scrambled eggs is a must in any fried rice. Up here in NJ you have to ask for it.
Agree
Her son has and egg allergy thats why she didn't add the egg , but in sure this was just as good if not better....
Anyone else here because they’re learning new things on quarantine?

TJay Detwiler I am 👍
That's why I'm here. I wanted fried rice so bad. Covid19 caused me to come here because I can't get to the Chinese restuarant
Of all the rice tips I’ve seen the idea of freezing for 20-30 minutes makes the most sense. If I don’t have day-old (which I never do!) this seems like the best option.
Btw, for people who haven’t tried the sesame oil thing - she’s right! - it’s a real nice light flavor drizzled on at the end of just about any Chinese-style recipe! Worth getting some.
Thanks!
I make fried rice very often, at least once a month. I make the rice fresh and wait for it to cool for an hour, then make the fried rice (even have done it instantly from cooking but I used less water) .Never had an issue! It is always amazing. You can make rice the same day for fried rice, you just have to plan accordingly (such as less water or use basmati rice). My preference is Basmati rice, it's the least starchy and holds its shape easy, but I've used multiple types of rice including long grain, medium and short grain (husband is a rice fanatic) and they all come out similar, but basmati has the best flavor in my opinion. It's crazy how many food myths there are, which are backed by only trying something one way!
yup i agree the sesame adds another notch
yummy
@@beanerschnitzel794 too much gives me vicious indigestion
I use boil-in the-bag rice sit it in cold water while I'm cooking the other ingredients and it turns out great you don't have to freeze it!👍😊
You got me when you said no peas!!! They don’t belong in fried rice....I also add a small sprinkle of Chinese 5 spice powder.....great recipe....
I love the way you talk about remembering your Dad! Dads love their kids just sometimes get caught up in trying to do too much and actually forget that the real important thing in life is your kids♥️ TJ Reed really approves of this lady you’re a Rockstar!!
Childhood make me happy too. I make video at rural area to show people too.
Peas and carrots ruin fried rice! Your rice was great. Try adding a couple of eggs!
yummy
Omg why do I do this to myself, lol. Watching this right before I fall asleep. Now I'm craving shrimp fried rice
I know right
Ugh you're not the only one me tooooooo 😭😭😭😭
Glad I know to cook.
Same here lol
Lol
It looks like my Vietnamese dishes. Thank you so much!
I just watched several shrimp fried rice recipes and this is the best by far, going to make it right now, only I'll be adding an egg also. Love that you're not using peas and carrots like all the other videos I've watched. I also like that you mixed chicken broth with the soy sauce, very clever idea and the bean sprouts are a great idea also. Thanks for sharing!
I agree love her recipe with out the peas and carrots lol but I do use 4 eggs to mine my little
@@thaispice89 why do you add egg? Is it raw egg or scrambled?
@@tomc8930 It's cooked, usually.
@@mawmawvee thank you!
@@tomc8930 You're welcome. Sometimes a raw egg is added to the meat going into an Asian dish, which is called, velveting and is supposed to help the meat stay moist, but it, too, gets cooked. I tried this last evening and it seemed to work as the meat was so tender and juicy. But that's not what you asked about. Just felt like talking to you. :D
The restaurant was called Lee's Den, it opened in 1957 closed in 1988. I worked there as a busboy during the early 60's, best Chinese food in Houston !!
my parents took me to Lee's den as a child! 😍
What a coincidence. She said she was 4 years olds.
I love scrambled eggs in mine, in fact I add more to the leftovers. I scramble them in a seperate pan, making sure there are visibly nice size pieces to single out during eating.
There was a restaurant called Lee's Inn, in the Airline-Tidwell/I-45 area. I remember going there long ago.
@Brenda Lee Lee's Den was located on South Main street in the 60's, Lee's Inn was located on I45 and Tidwell. Two different families owned them. I knew both families very well. I went to Reagan HS, in the Heights, go Bulldogs!!
I am in my 70's and Lee's was about 2 miles from where I grew up. Great place. Your video sure gave me some great dining memories.
Omg! Yessss....I remember Lee’s Inn! We would go every Sunday after church. Lol. They had the best chicken chow mein. Thank you for bringing back those wonderful memories. 😁❤️
I freaking love you for the tip on not having to use actual day old rice...the freezer tip was awesome!!
This is perfect!! No eggs! This is the style that I grew up in back in Michigan. The place was Golden Crown in Bloomfield and it was my daddy’s Friday night family dinner tradition. And you aren’t the only one who likes mixing white and fried rice. I just liked the contrast in tastes and textures.
We lived in the Houston area from 1970 - 1994. Lee's Inn is where my husband, my 2 sons and I learned to eat Chinese food. We still reminisce on how good the food was at that restaurant.
Love the connection!
Yesss
I have to have eggs and in my fried rice. This looks good though.
Me too. As I watched, I thought I’d have to scramble an egg to add to it.😀
Also a few mixed vegetables would be nice. That’s what I put in my fried rice.
Can fried rice be made w cooked shrimp?
Can fried rice be made w cooked shrimp ?
@@kathywest4131 Just add the cooked shrimp last to heat it up.
I'm 68 and I remember going to Lee's
Inn too, it was the best ever!
This is the best looking fried rice on CZcams!!!
I first learned about fried rice when I was sent to Thailand the first time during the Vietnam War in 1969 and was put up in a hotel in Bangkok until the base I was going to had made arrangements for my travel to the base of my assignment (U-tapao Thai Naval Base) where I was to work on B-52's aircraft. When I went into the dining room to eat I noticed one guy who was also waiting and I asked him about the dish he was eating and he told me that it was fried rice and I had never eaten it before. He talked me into trying a spoon full of his and after tasting it and loving how it looked I ordered the same with shrimp and loved it and from then on I have been eating and loving it. Upon returning to Arkansas years later I purchased a wok at the area air base and still have it even though I have not used it much lately.
Sidney Mathious THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
Thank you so
Thank you sir for your service....
Did the dish you have in Thailand have pineapple and/or coconut?
@@HealingHappyAli No. It was Shrimp fried rice and I have never any with fruit in it, but heard of it in the Philippines while there.
I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed your video about shrimp fried rice! I not only love the recipe but also your narration and the fact that you shared such a personal memory about your dad. Your voice is really calming to me and I’m really look forward to watching your videos in the future. Thank you so much for sharing the recipe and yourself.
Best looking fried rice I've ever seen!!
I almost DIED when you referenced Lee's Inn❤❤..My parents took us their often, the owners were such nice people, I haven't found any food as good as theirs yet.
@Brenda Lee near Northline mall or Farmers market .
@@btysalinas is that in Houston area? Could you give the address?
This recipe plus white onions, pea pods and scrambled eggs. Yum!!
yes must crack an egg
Humildemente Agradecida Doggone it! I’m making this today, have already been to the store and forgot pea pods! Oh well, it’ll still be yummy!
Yep
white onions ruin fried rice. my opinion.
You need to scramble an egg and you forgot to do what the dish is called and that is fried rice. You have to fry the rice to get the residue or the roast Tasteninstrumenten the rice. That’s where the color comes from. Not from the Soy sauce. But it still looks good.
Memories of my late mom and late sister are linked to meals of Chinese food like this. Happy times. The restaurant we frequented is gone, and when I need some comfort food, this is what I seek out. I love the little hole-in-the-wall restaurant where I live now, as the food tastes like my childhood, but I really do need to try to make this myself. Thanks for sharing!
MAMA YOU ARE THE QUEEN OF THE CHINESE FRIED RICE...
Sesame oil is a must!! At first I wasnt digging the smell, but I instantly got used to it when I started added it to everything, the flavor's great😂😂
Sesame seeds are good in it too.
YES! I always add sesame oil to my fried rice. For those unfamiliar with sesame oil, buy the dark sesame oil in the Asian section of your grocer. Stay away from the lite stuff. The dark oil gives your fried rice a nutty flavor.
Jon D Eager p
And fish sauce!
Sometimes groundnut or almond oil
Finally!! Real fried rice. No peas, no carrots.
Poppi3579 (
No,scrambled eggs ?
No egg!
Poppi3579 no eggs. This is not Chinese fried rice
@@nette49 Apparently some members of her family are allergic to eggs 😢
Looks delicious, I can hardly wait to try it myself. I've been looking for authentic Asian recipes and it seems, I've hit the jackpot.
Thank you!
Best shrimp recipe ever! I have never seen any other cook freeze rice to make the fried rice authentic. It is a total game changer. Thanks so much!
Omg 😱 I thought I was the only one who mixes steam rice with my fried rice ~ it just calms the saltiness and oily fried rice 😁 and gives it that balance lol 😂 I’m gonna try this for my kids☺️ looks delish thanks for sharing 💖💕
Me too!
Perfect for me, I love the green onions and bean sprouts only, delicious, thank you 😋😋😋
The more veggies better I like it.
Your food channel is probably the best on youtube by far. I love you. Lol
Your fried rice looks a lot better than most restaurants!!!
Thanks Mark! 😊
It sure does... She should open a restaurant

Exactly these restaurants don't have the same quality of for they did when I was a kid
I just made this for dinner tonight! It is amazing! Soooooo delicious! My husband loves it!!!
I grew up in Baltimore and the city has the best shrimp fried rice! No other place in Maryland compares. This recipe was almost exact! Thank you so much!!! ❤️

l love this recipe! Simple and no eggs!
Bravo!!! Extremely well done, audio and video. You explain so well!!! I WILL make this wonderful recipe!! No peas -- yay!!!
A scoop of fried and steamed is my favorite, I sometimes add the chow main chips crunched up into the mix.
She provided real and authentic recipe base. I added green peas, chopped cube carrots and broccolis. It came out great -Thanks to Simply Mamma Cook.
best looking one i seen so far, looks amazing, cant wait till i cook this on tuesday
LOL I LOVE LOVE when I get small chunks of unmixed white rice. I also really enjoy the mix of textures! :D
Me too.
Finally something to watch better then the
Elections.. thanks 🙏🏻
Haha
I guess this fried rice is going to have an affect on your life and lifestyle like an election does. Just stupid.
Looks so good. I love shrimp fried rice.
i love the way you put the ingredients together
Looks yummy, but fried rice isn't fried rice without egg.
We have fried rice or egg fried rice .I don't think it's only in Ireland were this is the case.
@@samsungtab550 Your absolutely right.
@@Curtis.StMartin This is a good recipe just add the eggs to it.
I kno that's rite!!!!

When should you add it? While it’s cooking i’m guessing otherwise it’ll become soggy.
The way I remember as a kid my favorite fried rice is the way you prepared it, dark and full of flavor. Yum!
Just started watching your videos yesterday (they just started popping up on my timeline). Short and to the point. Simple ingredients. Keep up the great work!!!
When I want to learn something new I'll watch several videos (by now knowing where I will end up!).any way you're the best! Awww thank you my husband like this already!❤
I’m so going to make this looks so delicious thanks for sharing
This is my go to quick meal. For myself or a family dinner!
i am from Brazil but my dad also loves chinese food and surely passed his passion on to me!
It looks so good, love shrimp fried rice. I tend to be sloppy when stir frying so I prefer to use a pan with deeper sides. Otherwise my cooking decorates the kitchen walls.
🇧🇫
I agree that it’s difficult to cook fried rice in a pan with low sides. I’m using a pan with 3inches/ 8 cm sides. I also bought a glass cover which fits this pan. When I add in the leafy green , I increase the heat and cover the pan so my veggies will have the texture I want. You may be able to find such a pan online.
Why i dont see your green onions in the shimps when you coooking .
i was scrolling through your recipes looking for something with the ingredients i have in my fridge because i’m too lazy to go to the store and i found this! thank you so much! i didn’t know fried rice could be this easy!
YOU HAVE AFRICAN AMERICAN IN YOUR COOKING STYLE!!! JUST JUST HOW WE EAT FRIED RICE!!! EXCELLENT VIDEO
I love fried rice and steamed together! Thanks for this recipe.
I'm definitely going to make it just as you did! Thanks so much for sharing.

Best video ever on how to cook this meal
Omg! Love this fry rice receipe.it looks so delicious.
I just made mine today!!!! Made it exactly the same. From Puerto Rico!! 💪🏼😁
Thank you for being methodical and patient in your explanations. The way that you have laid out the "foundation" makes it easy for additions and modifications. I prefer using a Wok, but that is another topic. Thank you.
Even Asians don't always use a wok. I like a wok because my cook-top is electric and woks are thinner. I like a carbon steel kind of wok.
Yess iam Ms.Lovely. I live in Houston and I remember that place. Very good food
I like this way of making this rice the best.
Your post is so well done! I actually learned how to prepare this from your video.
I loved the House special fried rice from Lee’s Inn. You brought back so many memories just mentioning the name.
I am so excited to find your Chanel! Brings back when I was much younger and did lots of Chinese dishes. Have not done it in years! Thank you. I will be here many times

I just made the shrimp fried rice recipe for the first time, came out great, thank you
I also love to mix my rice: steamed and fried. Yum.
I remember Lee's Inn. That was one of my favorite restaurants in Houston. So sad when they closed. I have not found another Chinese food restaurant to compare with the high quality food that Lee's Inn served.
I remember going as a child, but we moved away from Houston for a couple of years and when we returned it was gone. 😕
Neither have I....
Sharon Harling Thank you for your shrimp fried rice recipe. You explain it all so well. Will cook this for dinner.

My husband and I would go Lee's Inn in Houston at Airline &Crosstimbers when we were dating . We nt all the time . Their food was great !

I love bean sprouts in my fried rice also. Thanks for sharing.
You make it look so simple even relaxing, like your voice. I like that you bring up your precious moments with your dad. I haven't been too successful cooking fried rice and have stopped but now I'm going to start again due to your great video.
