The Blue Devils may not play popular music. They may have topped DCI 15 times. But the Blue Devils deserve respect. Whether you like other corps for any other reason, Every single drum corps deserves respect. These are kids between 15 and 21 years old that you are trashing. So what if they are not your favourite. You don't have to cheer for them. But show these kids some respect. They are an incredible group, and give up their lives for an entire summer to accomplish them. Respect them.

I don’t. I really like that Crown show. I’m not really a big Crown fan if I’m being honest (especially after 2015), but 2012 is undoubtedly one of their best shows. However, to be the champ, you have to be consistently great across the board and have a show that moves DCI forward into the future more than any of the rest. In 2012, that was BD. No doubt.
"It took awhile for fans to warm to this show"-more like never warmed to this show. I was at finals you could tell everyone wanted Carolina Crown.

Watched all top 4 shows through. 4: Cadets 3: BD 2: PR and 1: Carolina Crown. I'm sorry but the speed that crown moved around, the sound they blasted wonderfully, and the amount of chills they gave me was without match. I've been watching DCI since the early 2000's and I was blown away. For that matter, Phantom could have won it as well. Amazing storytellers
Too bad Crown was far too dirty in percussion and visual :/
2019 will be Crown's year. New visual instructors, and their drumline is improving.

They were just too dirty. Don't kill me but I actually loved the Devils show from this year and didn't really like the crown show. As a huge fan of Star, especially 93 star, I thought they looked like chickens with their heads cut off.

Well, that was a real slap in the face for the blue devils. Carolina crown deserved it anyways.
This has got to be my favorite introduction to any World Championship Finals Award Ceremony video. Recognizing all the World Championships and how only very few were able to achieve the title in DCI's history since 2012. The thing is who knew that in the next four years, not one but, TWO new names (Carolina Crown and the Bluecoats) would be added to the Founders' Trophy. Drum Corps is truly it's own art form.

Steve Rondinaro. Back in the day he was not only our local tv anchorman, but my corp director too. One day he gave us one of his famous motivational speeches. It began, "my boss at the station called me into his office & said to me...", and without thinking I blurted out "Your fired." DEAD silence filled the room & my panicked brain screamed "why did you SAY that?!". Suddenly the corp erupted in laughter. Steve came over, patted me on the head, smiled & spared my life. Thank you, Mr. Rondinaro.

You can tell who the fan favorites were that year. The crowd bearly reacted when Carolina crown was announced because they were disappointed that they got second. They got louder much after the announcement. That was supposed to be their first championship. I'm sorry but BD had way too much clutter visually on the field and I don't think the show was all that amazing. It had its moments I'll say but CC was way more exciting in almost all aspects. Even their ballad brought the crowd to their feet and that moment of just huge noise in the closer was reminiscent of Star '93 before they closed it with Medea. Raw power!
You, and many other people are just very biased about Carolina Crown. BD just performed better, and they really put their all into it. And it really doesn't help that CC got 6th for percussion...like usual
You both are bashing upon one another. BD's shows are not very entertaining to the general dci crowd, agreed. Crown's drum line is known to be their weakest link by many, agreed. But they both also are seriously good drum corps who each have very good things going for them. Instead of booing Crown's percussion, let's give their outstanding horn line and highly competitive color guard a nod, hm? And instead of bashing on BD's shows, let's look at their scores.

Crown was robbed. If I had to name five of the hardest shows I've ever seen performed I'd say Cadets 93, Star 91, Cavaliers 03, Cadets 97 and Crown 12. They performed the crap out of this show. The crowd loved it, but it doesn't pay to engage the audience. BD works the sheets and that's all that matters to them.
Get over it! BD only recruits the best of the best, that's why it's so hard to be accepted into the drum corp.

I love it when the camera is showing all the corps on the field and the only helmets to reflect or shine. Are the bluecoats. :)

I agree completely. I honestly have never liked their show concepts and plus I honestly think its time for a 7th member to be added to the list of world champions... idk, maybe Carolina Crown? I seriously thought Carolina should have won this last year.
If you think they are overrated, then you don't know much about Drum Corps. You don't win 14 times and be overrated. The judges know who is the best.

That BD show was so well designed and performed. Of course doing a show about the DADA art movement proved to be risky as far as love from the crowd, but they deserved the gold medal. Crown had the more fan friendly show, and could have challenged for the title had their percussion section placed higher than 6th place, and almost a point behind the Blue Devils. Still, I will always love Crown's show as well as BD 2012!
Phantom Regiment should've won best guard and Crown should have won the entire night.

Does anyone know the story behind the error in the Jim Ott award presentation? I'm sure it was nothing nefarious, but that seems like quite a mistake. I'm just curious how that went down.
So are there certain things that a corps needs to have in their show? Like this year I notices some corps had some of their personal touches to them. Phantom had their corp song, Madison Scouts their giant line, and Crossmen their cross.
Not to pick on the Blue Devils, but did you ever notice the bigger cheer for Crown for winning the Jim Ott award?

Man, if you can't hear the quality of sound difference between BD and everyone else, I got nothing for you. DeLucia is right, the performance quality is just on another level.

It's why i like BD now. 3rd favorite corp. Coats, Phantom, And Devils. Devils books are just about as hard as Coats and phantom's are.
