  • Hello all. Just to let you all know that after these next 2 vids we shall be demoing back in the shop. :)
This guitar is a copy of the Gibson Hummingbird and I have to say it looks like a very close copy. Its a great guitar with a lovely neck and very rich bright sound.
As said in the video I was demoing this guitar in Magnet & Cone / The Pump House studios in my home town of Louth, Lincolnshire. Its a great new studio for recording and rehearsing.
Below are links to the Facebook page and twitter account.
Plus its run by my good friend so if your in the area or even if your not please give it some support. Thank You:)

    Thank You again.

I have one. My now wife bought me it for my 21st Birthday. I’m now 70. It still plays well and keeps its tune for months. Unfortunately, the hummingbirds have worn off now but I still love it.

Hi Dave, swapped a drum kit for mine in the 70`s.It stayed in the case for a lot of years, and only came out when my younger granddaughter wanted to learn to play. However on lesson 2 the bridge snapped.I put it in to be fixed and had new strings(10`s)put on it.When I got it back I was amazed at it`s tone and playability.I use it a lot now and would not part with it.Incidently the guy in the fix shop said it was quite rare and worth more than the £80 that it was priced at in the original shop.

Recently got the 12 string from a guy who's looked after it like a favourite child, it seems. Love it, love the harmonics, and great sustain. No regrets, for a guitar of its age, this was a great find.

I just bought one from a dude who lives 3 minutes from my house. I mean: this one I got is immaculate condition... $420 Australian dollars.. no body to neck issues in, intonation perfect, every fret zero buzz.. mg. everyone snoozed on it for weeks. it's like someone put it in a temperature controlled safe for 50 years.. crazy.

Hey Dave, Suzuki were a violin company, which is always a good sign in my experience. Getting the right woods for violins and carving them out is a real artform, compared to flat top top acoustic. So Acoustic guitars would have been piece of cake for Suzuki. You know.. Gibson and Epiphone were both started by immigrants who had a better understanding of the old way of thinking about instruments in an orchestral setting. They call it "Violin Voiced" in guitars of this nature. The early ones are killer, as you probably noticed. But most guitar companies, along the way, seemed to have changed their priorities, focusing more on how strong the guitar feels in the hands. I guess it's a response to rock n roll, where people are jumping around the stage a lot. I like your style Dave, you think for yourself, using your senses and knowledge when choosing equipment.

Bought mine around 1973 for AU$90.00 and still play it. Used to have black sunstrings on it but these days I use D'Adario strings on it. Sounds pretty good with those strings. The black sun strings were my favourite but not available anymore.

I’ve got one I bought about 50 yrs ago secondhand then and I love it. And like you there is very very little that I can find out about it. I’ve got a Martin DC28E a j45 and a few Electric guitars Heritage 535, Stratocaster, telecaster, les Paul but this Suzuki Yamaha is always my go to when I’m just playing about! There’s no logo on the headstock and the bridge is adjustable but different to this one you’ve got here…

Hi Dave , was really nice to see another kiso suzuki guitar , I have a 1970s kiso Suzuki J200bb which is the jumbo version which I bought second hand from a friend in 1977 for 50 quid , I am almost 53 years old now and its been a great friend to me over the years , the sound just gets better and better , ive played Gibsons and Martins , taylors and lots of other guitars but still prefer my rip off kiso lol.
I own a Gibson les paul and I would part with that quicker than my kiso Suzuki.
Its got lots of little dents and battle scars from camping trips and parties over the years , both my kids learned to play on it , its the best 50 quid ive ever spent. ty for the post .

@@TheBobbymcd yes I know exactly what you mean Bobby, the first guitar I've played that I got the same feeling for which I tried recently was a Furch guitar, loved it right away it has a really clear warm tone, might buy one and save my kiso.

I just called my cousin to see if she would let me have my hummingbird back, same as the one your holding and played great. I think that has a solid spruce top . All I know is in 82 I had a Martin 000 top of the line and a high-end yamaha and this was my favorite, the Martin was more low end sound and gorgeous ant the yamaha was a little higher and the Suzuki was just above that but put out more overhead harmonic's than the other 2 .

Hi. Hope someone can answer me. I have just bought a Suzuki&Co Hummingbird guitar. The sticker in the soundhole is round and says Kiso Suzuki Violin CO. LTD
Model no. W-65A and then it has what seems like a serial number which is 00605.
The Headstock has Suzuki&Co printed on it in the style of Martin Guitar headstock logo, and on the back of the neck it says Made in Japan.
Can anyone give me any info. What date is this guitar made? Whats the worth? Wood type? Thanks all.

    • @tedwardoconnor
      @tedwardoconnor Před 6 lety

Gilby Blue the ones made from 1970 on used the first digit of the serial number to identify the year of manufacture, e.g. 10823 would be a 1971 model.

In 1979 kiso suzuki changed their logo and label to the new round label and these labels were used until the end of production in 1985 .
      Round label start from 9xxxx -1979 up to 5xxxx 1985 # xxxx. I guess your is 1980

In my opinion, the suzuki arnt as good as the Ibanez or yamaha of the same era.
