Dude, dude I just love how this loosely inspired a courage the cowardly dog episode. The one where Eustice stops at a diner and loves the burgers. And both the owners are pigs. Wild I never knew where the inspiration came from too.
Im creeped out by that episode
I remember that episode. Turns out, the pigs are making edible busts of the customers from meat.
That guys face showing up on the burger was so freaky first time you see it.. then that nod to them maybe not being good at the end.. really chilling stuff
Fun fact Courage the Cowardly Dog show was inspired by a real couple and their dog that lived in the middles of Nowhere USA and were known for reporting seeing strange things like UFOs, strange mists, and even phantoms. No joke look it up its wild
@@AevasHouse got any citations for this sounds pretty interesting really.
"They're free range now!" That got a good laugh out of me.
Rory Calhoun's performance here always invokes Chuck Connors' in "Tourist Trap" for me (and vice-versa). They were both old-school Western actors in the tail end of their careers that turned in surprisingly effective performances that became the highlights of awesome cult horror flicks. Both were even released within a year or so of each other. Very dissimilar films in a lot of ways, but they do have this in common.
Look at them, walking around like a bunch of little Rory Calhouns!!!
"apparently there's a wolfman in it" ACK! I remember listening to him on the radio back in the day lol.
i knew him from a Galactica movie
Seems most here arent old enough to know what WMJ was about.....
"ACK!"? are you Cathy? (Just joshing; not trying to make fun of you. I can't see that word and not think of that comic strip.)
After nearly 30 years, I finally found this movie. I remember a movie that very disturbed me as a child with pigs fighting with chainsaws. Over the years I asked people and they laughed having no idea what I was talking about but I knew it was real. Thank you!
Fun Fact, in German Simpsons Dub, it was changed to "Boris Becker". Probably because the Guy translating went "The Fuck is Rory Calhoun?"
Takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent fritters..........saw this in the theatre when it came out and that was the tag line, lol
I saw this movie in the 90's on tv,I immediately took a liking to farmer vincent, making fritters out of pot head hippies.
Ah, just one of the movies I enjoyed watching in my late teenage years - those were the days! Love Farmer Vincent's famous last words at the end!
Seriously, the chainsaw duel lines up directly with "Duel of Fates" The Chanting starts when he walks out with the Pig Mask and Chainsaw, and the strikes match the rhythm oddly enough. Even the end of the fight matches up with the music when it changes tempo.
Someone should make a video out of that.
The mix of "wholesome" fun and super dark subject matter is kind of weirdly fascinating.
I still remember the day that my latest copy of Fangoria magazine arrived in the mail and featured the infamous chainsaw pig on the cover. I was like... WTF?! Of course then I had to see the movie, and surprisingly, it was pretty good. Great review!
I just watched Alien and I think I know who the true villain of the movie was: The Cat!
The Cat survived every encounter with the alien and even watched the death of the first Person who died from the full grown alien
Teostratos L The cat switched bodies with the alien. It was in the manga
I paid that cat to kill the crew.Almost got my money's worth to,damn ripoff cat leaving a survivor.
@@woo79ta interesting thanks for that
Plot twist: The cat is the true CEO of Weyland-Yutani. The human ones are just facades.
John Ratzenberger the same guy that voiced at least one character in every Pixar Movie and Major Bren Derlin in The Empire Strikes Back is the Drummer in Motel Hell
Dominic Abbs he was also a cast member on Cheers, the tv show
I always thought that the production photo was an understatement as far as the movie was concerned
The garden scenes were enough by themselves to give me nightmares! I watched this as a teenager, after i thought id seen it all. I was wrong
Well my fear of pigs was not helped in this episode
undertakerdan55 another poor soul traumatized by."Spirited Away", I see...
Pigs? Pigs aren't scary... unless you count the pigs from Deadwood, Hannibal, the iron pigs from Dark Souls, or even real life pigs that are hungry enough and will descend upon any unfortunate soul that falls into their pens en masse and rip that person to shreds and leaving nothing behind from their terrible feeding frenzy. You know what, I take it back, pigs are god damned terrifying.
+baranguirus well look on the bright side, there nice pigs like Porco Rosso, Oolong, and Hawk. They won't hurt you.
so, do you feel like conquer your fears a little whenever you eat bacon?
You forgot mankey, primeape, spoink, piloswine and tepig. Not to mention spiderpig and peter porker. They're all harmelss (except for Gannon)
Your reviews are excellent, you deserve way more subs..
"Meat's meat, and man's gotta eat!"
Rory Calhoun really had a great run in horror/exploitation films for the last 2 decades of his career. In addition to the movies Brandon noted, he appeared in the first 2 entries of the "Angel'' series, as well as Bigfoot's Revenge and Roller Blade Warriors: Taken by force, set in a dystopian future and featuring a rollerblading warrior nun who battles mutants.
I actually felt the focus on comedy is what made this movie stand out. It gives it a really bizarre aura that adds to the atmosphere and makes it feel all the more uncanny and very memorable. I think it helps this strange move where the psycho cannibal is the most likeable character, certainly more so than the would-be rapist "hero".
I also feel like this movie inspired Resident Evil 7 almost as much as Texas Chainsaw. Jack and Marguerite remind me a lot of Vincent and Ada, the chainsaw duel also feels very similar to the one in this film.
I’ve had bits of this movie stuck in my subconscious since childhood.
Now I can put it to rest!
I saw this movie while visiting my grandma recently. It was SO strange.
The trailer for this scared the shit outta me as a kid in 1980, despite seeing The Shining in theatres later that year (still the best ever!). I realize now it was because of "Asylum" ('72) with the dismembered corpse parts wrapped in butcher paper that moved and breathed.
Yikes!
Powerful Imagery. Nightmare fuel (literally for me).
When I was eight years old I had the choice of renting either this, or Frogs. I chose Frogs. And I chose poorly.
Saw the opening drawing, clicked like; heard the John Waters reference, knew I was right. Good times!
Mainstay of Cinemax in the early 80's. What a great time to be growing up.
You know, when my friend and I watched this. The first thing we decided to do when we saw the chainsaw duel was put "Duel of Fates" from Star Wars over it. It increased the epicness of the fight by INCREDIBLY PROPORTIONS!!!
I'm surprised you missed out on that opportunity. :D
Well he would probably use an 8-bit version to keep the video from getting flagged. Also someje should post a video on that.
loved the rebel wilson joke
Whoa! I saw this movie on hulu last year
One of my old faves! Saw it as a youngster. My buddy and I were about twelve or so and went to rent movies with my mom. She saw the title and promptly refused to rent it for us. My bud got his older brother to rent it and let us watch it. I remember well how me and my buddy were weirded out something fierce by this movie as we watched it late at night. We couldn't believe a movie could make us laugh and scare us as well.
I’m coming into this review late but I freakin love Motel Hell.
any chance of a review of Tourist Trap. Another late 70s early/ early 80s horror film starring another former Cowboy, Chuck Connors?
I love Chuck Connors. :)
The Rifleman's awesome.
I'd like it more if the show featured less of Mark. I don't know why but I really hated that character.
"Tourist Trap" was one of the first horror movies that I saw as a kid. I still get PTSD thinking about the girl who had plaster on her face. That made my heart race and I had nightmares for years about suffocating from the same type of torture.
Tourist Trap(1979) was produced by B-movie mogul, Charles Band
I was probably 12 years old when I first saw this movie on The Movie Channel.
Ida is Miss Balbricker from "Porky's".
Motel Hell may not be the greatest movie ever made, but it is fun to watch and it's one that I have very fond memories of watching with my late mother on AMC's monster fest back in the day. And yes, Roy Calhoun is definitely the best thing about it.
It's about time night of the lepus got mentioned in this show, I wonder if you'll ever review it
Gotta give this movie extra props for the chainsaw fight. That's always plus to any film.
It takes all kinds of critters
To make Farmer Vincent's fritters!
I saw _Motel Hell_ when it first came out. Laughed a hell of a lot and haven't thought of it since. Thanks for the trip down memory lane!
It's no wonder most tourists prefer a Days Inn and the nearest Bob Evans.
15:14 so Rory is Thanos.
...never give him the infinity gauntlet
Ironically, his plan is actually less insane than thanos
8:45 Playboy Playmates Monique St. Pierre and Rosanne Katon.
There's all kinds of critters in Farmer Vincent fritters!
Don't you hate it when a movie reminds you that you'd rather be watching a better movie. The Monster that Challenged the World is one of my favorites. How could you not love a movie about giant flesh-eating snails.
5:35 CALLED IT! My other guess was it was made of Horse.
Yay, I love that movie! And that marks a grand total of two films Brandon has reviewed that I've actually seen (the other one being Starcrash).
''Oh look, the food is revolting'' Ha! Best double pun in a while! ;)
The image of the guy wearing the pigs head was the inspiration for the character Piggsy in Rockstar's game Manhunt.
This ironically movie's a lot like another Tobe Hooper movie, Eaten Alive (1977).
Eaten Alive is insane but I love it
Wolfman Jack used to be a radio DJ, I sometimes listen to re runs of his on the radio
Brandon's thumbnails make him look like a character from fairly odd parents.
and also look nothing like him
First time I ever saw this was also the first time I saw Monstervision with Joe Bob Briggs (he was showing this movie and the Night of the Living Dead remake) Thus I always associate this movie with Joe Bob.
Ahhh TNT...I loved Monstervision so much!
Preservatives 😂
"Oh, look, now they're free range." That made me laugh my ass off.
I just recently discovered your videos and you're pretty awesome. I like Brad Jones-like riff-review style.
You Tube favored me with an ad for Elmer's Glue during this video. Guys. I don't think that is going to be good enough.
If you want more great Calhoun, check out the rather dark episode of Gillian’s island, The Hunter, where he wants to hunt Gillian for sport. He plays it totally straight, adding a really sinister vibe to the typically lighthearted show.
The scene where Farmer Vincent hypnotizes John Ratzenburger and his 2 bandmates STILL creeps me out.
I wonder if Gordon ramsay would review the place
I remember seeing commercials for this on COMET.
Brandon,I just saw ”curse of the werewolf" on svengoolie and I swear you remind me of oliver reed in it.
See, THIS movie needs a remake
Orestria you can't make a remake of Mitel Hell, Hollywood would ruin it with political correctness, bad acting, writers' room group think, CGI, and way too much gore.
Talisguy You know good and fucking well that progressivism and liberalism today is nowhere close to what it was in the 60’s.
Yes!
@@Talisguy oh you mean mcarythism a term made up by Hollywood to try deflect the fact that not his inquiries into the house but a seperate set spearheaded by a blue blooded to his bones democrat found that hollywood was not only deeply ingrained with communists in the cold war they got funding from the soviets the same hollywood communists that created the Walt Disney is an anti semite lie among other wonderful bits of bullshit, cherry picking shit and claiming anything where the main characters aren't straight white males are autmatically progressive left wing films is the height of stupidity my dude
Say it loud say proud the lie is dead Hollywood was always red
@@Talisguy except every celeb and their mother saying fuck Trump and or fuck the right wing where you guessed it they got cheered by their fellow celebrities in fact the only ones that do get in trouble for political statements are ones that make conservative political statements, and no the communist progressive bullshit has infested Hollywood since long before the 60s like say oh I don't know when communist unions rioted in Hollywood, created and propagated the Walt Disney is a anti semite lie when Walt opposed one the communist leaders from muscling in on his staff in fact if you look at Walt Disney's politics and views he would be the first man to take a torch to his own company today were he around and kicking also they were the creators of most of those racist war propaganda cartoons back in the day almost like nothing has changed in Hollywood since it's birth I will say it again say it loud say it proud the lie is dead Hollywood was always red.
Sure, Brandon. "It's veal." Riiiight. :P
I'm 200% onboard with Brandon on this one, this movie has two or three ideas that're fuckin' HORRIFYING, it could be something banned in certain countries if it was to be remade by someone nowadays who does such things. The humor can stay, but mute it a bit more and go for a truly upsetting movie and it could become immortal~
I feel like Ida just walked in from a John Waters movie!
-"KY Jelly and low self esteem.." and I burst out laughing. Thanks for that.
dude, I love watching your channel. when ever I see a new episode posted, I go home. smoke a fat bowl or eat some special chocolate and have a blast. hands down the funniest shit to see when faded. can't wait to see what other movies you have in mind. but for sure I'm waiting on the planet of the dinosaurs. favorite dinosaur movie as a kid.
OH I remember that movie, I haven't seen that horror in years, and I loved that horror movie.
If you want to see a good chainsaw fight, watch "Tiger on beat" (aka "Tiger on the beat") with Chow Yun-Fat.
glad to see im not the only one who remembers Rory Calhoun as the man whos always standing and walking im so glad i can actually put a face to his name before he was just a greyhound with a neat trick XD
The giant claw, found in my UFC.
Damn, this movie doesn't just gross me out, but it made me hungry for some corndogs.
Immobilizing the animals, playing music, and flashing multicolored lights at them is how the meat industry makes veal, in case you didn't get Brandon's joke at the end. It makes the meat more tender.
Yo Brandon, when are you gonna review Fritz the Cat?
Psst Wolfman Jack as in off American Graffitti. Richard Dreyfuss, Ronny Howard, Harrison Ford, Suzanne Somers. The movie George Lucas used to fund STAR WARS... Wolfman Jack, the Radio Program that was used in the Rob Zombie film 31
Whoa, you mean the guy I mention by name twice in the video is in this movie? Thanks!
Your commentary is excellent! Great movie - classic!
Y'know it's kind of funny Brandon...
I remember being a fan of yours for a while. The Last Dinosaur was probably one of my favorite reviews of yours. But I was in such a demand for more, I went searching youtube, and that's how I found Decker Shado...He'd reviewed The Last Dinosaur too, and he'd done more of the Gamera movies than you had at that point. Needless to say, I became a fan of his too...
I also saw that he'd reviewed Motel Hell...And now, with you reviewing it; it's kind of like a "come-full circle," kind of thing.
Thank you for reviewing this movie!!!!! I almost bought it because the cover looked awesome and the trailer looked awesome!!!!
This movie brings back memories of jr. high in 79-80. The seniors would drive to Vernon, TX. And see this and Texas Chainsaw. They would always talk about it Mondays. They would make up all kinds of gory crap to tell us. Fun Times. 👍✌
Thank you for saying Yakity Sax
I remember watching this w.Joe Bob Briggs on the TNT channel! This was back in the 90s on a Fri or Sat night. Haha memories
"Flappity Sacks! (baritone) Don't flop back!"
It takes all sorts of critters to make Farmer Vincent's fritters!
This is one of my favorite movies I saw it as a kid and this was so out there that I was glued to the floor watching it lol it's in my top 20 favorite horror movie
One of my all time favs
If this movie were to be remade I think it should balance that comedy and horror.
I wonder if this inspired "Pigsy" in the first manhunt game
Great review as always.
I love that movie man thank you for showing it one of the most classic of the 80s thanks
So Bo (aka Boris) was that chick's boyfriend and he was born in 1923? She must really like older men. I guess that is why she was so willing to marry Vincent
To be fair, if any old timer could pull that wedding off, it was definitely Rory Calhoun, widely regarded as one of the biggest philanderers in Hollywood in his prime.
Wow, Brandon, you going to review Hell Comes to Frogtown?
You should check out The Funhouse which Hooper actually directed.
One of my favorite films
Yhis is one of my favorite movies when I was 8 gettig ready for Halloween, USA network was in the full Saturday Night Nightmares era and I came in right when she scares the girls wearing the pig head it scared the shit out of me lol
At 11:20, that was one of my favorite scenes from the movie. I had the same thought about the sound effect as Brandon did.
I remember I was at my dad's trailer before he moved back home and we watched this movie and man it was good time thought I was the only one singing the praises of it or at least had watched it
I loved watching that movie when I was a kid
Hey man!! Just discovered your channel!! Good stuff!!
13 minutes in, at least, and no mention of the fact that Bruce is played by Paul Linke (Grossman from CHIPS)?
I thought the same thing. No surprise he was no good at police work.
7:58 "I was just kinda hoping you might wanna go see the new movie at the drive-in"
"What is it?
"It's a place where you stay in your car to watch a movie but that's not important right now"
Or that least, that's how that scene should have played....
Love this movie! Great video!
