You two have always in my top 5 favorite whiskey channels the last 7 years.. I started watching y'all when I lived in St Louis then chased a girl to DC.. She griped too much so I moved back to the midwest and live in KC. Thanks for your entertainment over the years!

Why I don’t need a box just give me the bottle it all goes in the trash anyway. It is set at a ridiculous price yes I know it cost a bit more to do this process but it’s getting crazy out there and I’m a huge WT fan. But I’m okay with 101 and rare breed. I can get many bottles of what I like instead of one of these. Great review. Enjoy!!

Nice review I enjoy your videos.
I have a hard time spending over a hundred even if it’s 10 years old. Rum finish is (to me) is not good. I’m a Turkey fan I won’t be thinking about this one.

Guys, thanks for the honest review. I'm seeing this now for $400 but I'm having a really hard time pulling time pulling the trigger. Anybody here tried any of the Bardstown Foursquare collaborations? They go for about $160 and I'm leaning in that direction instead of the Wild Turkey...

HAHA Bart had Scott scared to put it up against Rare Breed or ECBP. It would have faded away.........................

250 what?! 250 tootsie roll pops? Oh, Mr Owl, that is one center I don't want to find out how many licks it will take to get to.

@@ScotchTestDummies It is amazing what distilleries are passing off as high premium whisk(e)y these days.

I'm with Bart; he's not overrating Rare Breed. I recently blinded it against ECBP, Booker's, and Russell's 13. Rare Breed came in second to ECBP.

      $165 was a good price for a 17 year now its 250 for a 10 year +

    Nah nah nah.
Got a sample from a friend who paid over SRP for a bottle.
Nose was the best part.of the experience: heavy sugary syrupy and some nut. Palate was very tight with flavors but def skewed heavy on the bourbon side. The finish had some sort of alcoholic astringency (you made note of that) I found it too bothersome and felt it cut short the palate notes not allowing them to follow through.
I will let the sample sit a good month before trying again but right now Wild Turkey is getting the side-eye from me 😑

I remember these MK bottles were around $150 a few years ago. They've gone north in price like many allocated bourbons. So many other allocated bourbons I would rather have at half price, considering the availability was there. Great review.

A blind with Rare Breed would be interesting. I have gone back with my "high end" purchases and blinded them with upper mass release products. My FOMO is under much better control.

we've found most allocated bottles underperform for the premium $

I wonder the similarity in flavor if you put a drop or two of appleton rum in with your rare breed. More my price range for sure.

This video made me realize something - at the beginning of the video Scott was so excited to have this bottle because it's new, rare, difficult to get and therefore has a crazy secondary market price. Bart wasn't impressed, and at 11:58 when Scott dropped the price, it was interesting to see him stumbling over his words trying to justify a price that isn't really justifiable. Don't get me wrong, I often have the same FOMO, but maybe that's what we (whisk(e)y nerds) should all do next time we're thinking of buying a bottle: can we rationally justify the price for the bottle or is it just a FOMO thing. And if not: just walk away.

    • @ScotchTestDummies
      @ScotchTestDummies  Před rokem +1

Scott is trying to justify the price and it's hard to do. There are few allocated bourbons that are worth the price.

@ScotchTestDummies quick question which has been your favorite Rum Cask finish from Bourbon, scotch, or other whiskey.
I know it was mentioned while back a little fall of Balvenie 14. I haven't tried the Balcones single malt Rum Cask finish.
I do have an unopened bottle of Ardbeg drum line which was finished in ex rum casks, got it for 145 year half ago.

$250 for a NAS whisky, a bourbon none the less. There is a sucker born every minute.
