  • Hi hi hi Felting Fans! I was asked to make a needle felted yorkie as a Christmas ornament. I've never made a yorkie before, so I decided to record myself doing it. This video shows all of my successes and failures in making this needle felted dog.
I decided to break it into two parts, so this half of the video is all about the body, heads and the new way I've started doing the legs of my needle felted animals. I would love to know what you think! PLEASE NOTE: once again, there is a small section of black screen near the end. You can hear me talking, but the image has disappeared. It only lasts a few seconds - my apologies! I’ll do better in Part Two. :-/
If you are a beginner to needle felting, this video is for you! Actually, even if you've been needle felting for a long time, I'll bet there might be something here for you to learn, too. And speaking of learning, I'm always open to your thoughts and feedback, so please feel free to comment!
I'm Jules, and I'm an obsessed needle felter who loves making whimsical miniature versions of people's pets. I think sculpting with wool is magic.
Here are a few of the supplies I used here:
The core wool in this video is from some random Amazon shop and I'm not going to link to it because it's terrible. I really hated felting with it, and as soon as it's used up, I'll never buy it again.
The orange needle I use comes from Felt Alive (my favorite place to buy needles!) feltalive.com
The felting kit the awl came from (this kit also came with black plastic eyes, noses and a bunch of other useful things):
    www.amazon.com/Needle-Felting...
The glue (which I love because it dries quickly and is not messy) aleenes.com
    The felting gun: www.etsy.com/shop/FunnyToysCraft

I made this channel to document my needle felting journey, and show you all of the tips and tricks I'm learning along the way. I'm constantly learning and I also follow a bunch of felters on CZcams, and I think you should follow them, too! Here are some of my favorites:

Pam Duthie (She shares much more than just felting)

Thank you so much for stopping by!

You are so very welcome! I need to make some new videos soon!

Great! I have the worst time with the eyes and glue too and getting them back in the hole. Tried hot glue gun and forget it, get's stuck. Your trial and error with the fabric glue taught me a good lesson. The eye half way out, then add glue, is great solution!

I've used the awl to poke a hole, then put a little glue on my awl, insert it in the premade hole with the dab of glue on it, spin it around a bit, insert eye, then wipe my awl off. No glue showing on outside then.

I’m intrigued to know what you are using as your felting pad as it sounds like hard plastic? Thank you for the demo.

I have my felting pad in a plastic base!

@@julesfeltlikeit Thank you for replying so quickly. It sounded as though you were hitting the plastic a lot of the time which is no way to treat a needle!! 😀

Ha! I wonder if it was just bad sound on the video? Then again, I probably am WAY too rough on my needles!

Oh gosh now that was working a bit backwards. Think the project would have been better served to have actually made an armature for the legs anyway

It is good to see a way without wire, for us that don’t have it.
