I think this is the best proxy tutorial I've seen yet, fantastic
I appreciate it, thanks :)
@@moxcardboardtv8797 great collection btw. I'm trying to get myself a Space Base
@@fenrirsreign it has a lot of replayability.
@HeAintGonnaEmailYou some are better than others, IME it's the older cards if you can get them. Typically anything is fine just don't use etched foils otherwise you'll peel off everything down to the white paper layer.
Best proxy video I’ve seen. Very professional and to the point. Everything was well stepped and well paced👌 Keep up the great content.
Ive watched pretty much every video on foil proxys that is available on CZcams and this is BY FAR the best one
Thank you 😊 I do try to give you guys quality content.
This is awesome! About 9 months ago I got back into magic with a friend I never knew used to play after both having not played 16 years. Since then we've gotten 5 people from our circle of friends to try magic and get hooked on it, playing commander every week has bought us much joy and closer together as friends. Thanks to this tutorial I'm going to be making them all their own versions of their favourite commanders with them as the artwork as a little Christmas something, all in glorious foil goodness!
Cheers, keep up the great work!
That is a lot of effort but the end result definitely seems worth it.
Definitely worth the effort when you want super expensive cards but don't want to pay what they're worth
Thank you for the video! I'm excited to try these out and make proxies for some of my decks
Been doing this method for years now!! They look gorgeous! I recommend if people want to go the next step to get small amounts of matte glosse finish mixed with the smallest amout of glitter, to stroke across wind lines in the images, or brighten a star in the background! I have a high tide with a cosmic moon in the back of the art that I swiped over glosse with, and it looks fantastic! Great video and thanks again!
Thanks for the feedback. You should join the discord server and share your experience.
This might be the best tutorial video I have seen on CZcams. Never heard of Photopea, thanks! And thanks again for the templates!
This was the first time I had ever used any form of photo shop and this tutorial made it very easy. Thank you, my proxies have turned out great!
Glad it helped!
TY for the tutorial!! I pulled the trigger and now have a gorgeous proxy!!
Thank you for sharing this video. Easily the best one I've seen. You've made it simple for us with your templates and given us every step concisely. Hopefully I can share some of mine in your discord soon.
Iv been searching for a full detailed solid tutorial like this i want to create custom pokemon cards but the method works the same thank you!!
Thank you very well put together and I understood every word I can’t wait to try this myself
Stubbled upon this and I must say that this is just...fan-flipping-tastic! Amazing work, clean walkthrough and you made the process so simple. I had to add a few images (namely for planeswalkers) but I think overall, the template that you use and the fonts that you provide are just super. Would love to know if you create any additional templates in the future. Thank you very much for this.
Thanks for the kind words, I am working on another proxy tutorial vid in which I use a token template that I designed. The video is not out yet, but you can get the free and publicly available template I'll be using in the video in my channel's discord under #proxy-resources, link in the description.
Couldn’t have said it better myself. Huge thank you to Mox for this one
This is very well done! I am going to try this when I get back to my office for sure
This proxy tutorial inspired me to start a few months ago. I even have it as an assignment in my class now. I just print on holographic sticker paper instead tho. Much simpler of a process than blanking foils and printing on transparent paper and then gluing on. Your tutorial on editing with Photopea is perfect. It has truly brought a ton of happiness to my life, it is a great creative outlet.
I always thought so too. I'm glad you're getting so much out of it 😊
what kind of ink did you use ?
@@user-eb8bz3hh7p Canon Pixma TS9521C is the printer I use and just buy EZ ink 281 on Amazon (half the cost of Canon stuff). Print setting >>> Glossy
how do you print it onto the holo sticker paper?
This is really fantastic. Thanks for taking the time to put this together. I appreciate it.
been thinking of looking for someone to do some foil cards for me, but it is i who will be doing the foil cards! thank you for the tutorial yo, you’ve made my playgroup a whole lot more interesting
This is an amazing tutorial! Great job!
Yes! The video Ive been looking for. Lots of options out there but this works best for me! Thanks
Remember to always use acetone either outdoors or in a well ventilated space, though I don’t imagine most people will make that mistake more than once. It can also dissolve many plastics so don’t just splash it around things you care about! Respect the tools, and they’ll do the work you want them to. Happy proxying!
This is true yes.
wow amazing tutorial man! incredible foils!
Appreciate this guide. Been wanting to make some nice proxies
Thank you, can't wait to try it out!
You’re a literal saint, right to the point and east to follow, thank you!
Amazing tutorial! I never knew the fedex office had cutting tools to use!
Awesome tutorial. I may have to give this a try
You'll be pleased to know that if you make 60 of these, you can totally sell them for $1,000. You don't even have to give the buyer specific cards, just 60 random ones.
Hahahaha
But you wouldn't be allowed to sell them because he used the blue-symbol. It is owned by WotC.
@@Schnecken I think you missed the point.
@@Schnecken There are about 500 companies doing it right now, they just do it from outside the USA.
Fun fact: That's illegal
Oh wow! This is awesome, thank you for sharing.
Yo this was awesome man I’ve been trying to find a way to make some full at foils to finish blinging my zombie commander deck. Many thanks
Happy to help!
Looks amazing great video
Nicely done, very solid video my man
Thanks for that compliment. Appreciate you chief.
Just the video i was looking for!
Thank you for this. Literally thank you
nice, i did the same thing but before attaching the picture i usually use gold or metalic spray paint to give some pattern to the foil, works prety good
Card named high tide
Art shows a low tide 😂
This is a great tutorial. Very well done!
What? The art he chose is clearly high tide...
Thank you! Great work!
OMG! all those preset options from photoshop!, sir you are the man of the year
I see this comment a lot, but dude, you seriously made a phenomenal tutorial. That’s easy to understand and highly effective. I would high five you if I could! I liked and subscribed
wow... amaziing.!!! u should make them for people ! i would buy some off u.the stickers...but yeah im gonna give it a try looks super dope and way cheaper and cooler then alter sleeves
Amazing tutorial. Subscribed totally
Appreciate you chief
Turn down the opacity of the art itself just a notch, that will allow more of an foil effect!
how much do you recommend?
You are incredible!! Thank you!!
Great tutorial, thanks!
weirdly, I noticed the strixhaven and zendikar rising foils do not like acetone and the shininess rubbed off with the text, revealing the white behind the mylar
Came for the foil proxy tutorial and stayed to apreciate a fellow boardgamer.
I see you're a man of culture lol.
gonna get back into magic because of this. So, i thank you. I used to spend too much money on the game, and it was a problem. No longer will i spend any more than it is to print them off XD
I met a guy at my LGS a few years ago that would make his own foil proxies like this except the art on the card is similar to what wizards is doing now with the basic land cycle in innistrad: crimson vow. They were so sick
Just started making these for gifts. Put my peregrine drake in reddit with mass applause. Just linked your video in the comments.
This video is amazing! Exactly what I have been looking for; I have already joined the Discord! I do have a question though. This example shown is for an Instant, but if I wanted to create one for a creature card, how would I get the box for the Power/Toughness in the bottom right since this one does not start with it? Very new to this whole thing lol
I personally use Rainbow Vinyl sticker sheets that are clear, and just carefully stick my cardstock printed custom cards onto the vinyl before sleeving them. The effect comes out really nicely and I can use all kinds of effects and designs for my foil. (Like hearts or a shatter effect.) If you REALLY wanted to get technical, you could even trace part of the card onto the vinyl and then cutting it. You would get a nice custom effect that looks hella sharp
uuuuuuf lo ame!! now im gonnna spend mi free time creating proxys that i will never gonnna use just showing then on my folder hahahaha
This is also great for custom cards for other games like uno or playing cards!
Thank you sooo much
Wheres the donation button. Im so excited to make my own proxies, already made 2 and this tutorial was the best ive seen yet!
Thanks for the kind words, if you'd actually like to donate here's a link

This video earned a sub and like from me, getting back into it mostly kitchen games with friends so proxies arent an issue for our group thankfully. I do have a question on the image though, is there anywhere where there images sized already for cards but without any text? Essentially I am looking for imagines like the one you found but would like to browse more possibly to be able to make our own custom proxies. thanks in advance!
What kind/brand of transparent sticky paper dose the FedEx store use?
Just am trying to order in bulk so I can do everything at home.
Thanks again for such a great video! And information provided!
Wow, I had no idea how foil cards were made, but I definitely didn't think the foil was under the ink
This video should blow up now thanks to Commander Masters prices.
Wotc pushes magic players towards proxies with almost every new product release. The Pinkerton thing didn't help either.
Amazing tutorial. Very in-depth.
Are there templates similar to the Godzilla or Dracula borders, so that one could make their own worlds beyond style proxies?
I will look into adding them to #proxy-resources in the discord
just made a broly unnatural growth you are a life saver
wow excellent
Just tried this for myself and it turned out pretty good!! Might you know any way to add an additional section like in the "Lorien Brooch" trailblazer boots reprint, so it has a different name but still shows the original card name beneath it?
The way you pronounce acetone is hilarious, I swear Americans are trolling us not just putting minimal effort in like everyone else says
Absolutely nailed it! What are the best foil expansion to work with? I saw you used a MH2...
what song did u use in the background, i just love it! also amazing video :P didn't know this could be such a detailed process. keep it up!
How do you keep ink from smearing? I waited multiple hours to let it set but it’s still messes up fairly easy. If I even had a finger on it too long it was leave a faint print on the picture.
How do you make the tap and other mana symbols in the card rules section?
In my tests, all AFR foil cards scrub off extremely easily, not just lands - any foils. You might have to scrub a bit harder to get the Volos alt golden foil background off, but even that still comes off pretty easily compared to other sets I tried scrubbing.
Hello! I was wondering why the godzilla template looks very different compared to the regular template? Trying to make sure the proxies come out correct! Anyway you could post a video about doing a godzilla template card? Thanks you!
Would it be possible to do the printing at home? If so what printer and material should I be printing it on? Ideally nothing crazy in price
You've just created me a need you have NO idea.
I would be very glad if you could post the link of the transparent sticker paper you are using, I don't know which one to buy or if it's the suitable for this kind of work. Will you post the link in the description? thanks in advance.
Hey I am having trouble with the mana symbols, my mana symbols are just turning to black circles, I even tried just selecting the text then making it back to the magc font without messing with the text and it does the same thing
Ngl that fwent card was nice
Question I got a picture that’s has white in the background is there a way to remove the white background or if I print it would the white become clear ??? Thanks
This video was godsend! Making a vintage cube for family and friends to play during the holiday. This saves me thousands of dollars 😅😂
Lol I'm happy to help!
Great video ! Always wondered how to make proxys. Will any print shop be able to print them ?
Yes
Can you make a video for planeswalkers and lands? I would really appreciate it. Also thanks for the tutorial.
Help please. The mana cost doesn't work the way it does in your video when I use the Legendary Creature template. Do you know why? And how I can get it to work? I really want it to have to actual mana cost on my card but it doesnt change to text when I select the mana cost
Was trying to do a Draco proxy, how can I do a 16 mana symbol? I tried brackets
great tutorial but I cant seem to fit 9 cards on the same sheet of paper. do you know how to fix this?
Question. Ok late to the party here, how to you line up your cards and size them correctly to print. I made a bunch of cards in photoshop and exported them to PNG but Im a novice and dont know how to format them to be able to press print and have 6-8 cards on 1 page.... or format it so I can take it to a print shop to get them printed. Is there a png or something where you can either drag and drop images so they size correctly or do you all upload them to word resize them and then do that 8-9 times per page?
Does anybody know how to put numbers like 10 or higher on the mana cost with the fonts on the video? I been having a stump with that
you can add a coat of clear gloss finish if you want the foil to pop more
what kind of finish?
@@hyperbooper water based polyurethane (spray can), get the best quality so you don't get big droplets and a uniform coat. can use a hair dryer without heat to speed up the drying
Any recommendations for the final trimming process? And thanks so much for the brilliant tutorial-you saved my sorry ass thousands of dollars.
FedEx office had this really nice tabletop rotary paper cutter that I use for all proxies. Use that for straight edges and scissors for the round corners.
Does this work with non foil cards?? Ive been wanting to do this but I dont have foils available
So glad I found this video, by chance do you have a good place to find imagery? For instance where did you get the art for the card in this video. Also is there an option for updating the artist part of the card so each card has credit to the artist who's image you proxy?
Pinterest is pretty good. The template has artist credit in text folder
Does anyone know how to do a double digit mana cost or a split colour cost?
Hello would it be possible to know where you picked your image :) ? thankyouuu
I know that this is an old video but does this work with other card games? I wanna make one for a leader card got dbstcg but I’m not sure if this will work
How do you do mana that could either be paid with two colors? Boros Boros , or Simic Simic? How do you do that?
Great tutorial, would love to know how you add a mana symbol in the rules text!
type whatever symbol you need, for example "ou" for the blue mana symbol in your rules text. select the "o" and change it to the light blue color in the template's color swatch. Select both the "o" and the "u." Open the drop down menu to select the font and pick magic symbols. Voila, you should have a nice, crisp blue mana symbol in the same layer as your rules text.
@@moxcardboardtv8797 what if it's a generic mana like a sol ring or mana crypt provides?
@@nateup just type o1. If it's double digits for eldrazi Titan or something like that, you have to use a special font. Check out the discord.
Hello thanks for the tuto ! i can't find a way to add uncolored mana for an ancient tomb proxy i'm trying to do any advice good sir ?
Check out proxy-resources in the discord
So you were doing this I noticed there was no blue symbol in the high tide. How do I add one?
I noticed the full rules of the card get cut off, is there any to get the full text without shrinking the font too small?
Awesome video! out of curiosity, do you have any recommendation for a template with the alternate name/sub title thing (like the godzila cards)?
I'll see what I can find and post it in the channel's discord server.
Thanks so much!
how could yo u make hybrid mana with this font? for example, on beseech the queen you can pay 2/b 2/b 2/b.
I just added hybrid mana font and a syntax guide for using it in the channel's discord, in #proxy-resources. Check it out link in the description.
Do you ever have to bring your own paper? Both fedex’s I went to have never heard of transparent sticker paper :/
How do you make a colorless mana symbol?
Really nice job. Was wondering if you would accept commission for such a proxy ? I'm looking for a specific card I'm ufortunately unable to find in the right language/art/foil combination...
