I’m dealing with this right now. Questioning my purpose. Every day needs a purpose but I’m getting tired. As we get older we question our purpose more. I’m trying to be more open to what life brings.
I hear ya!
The looking back as well as determining the direction of our efforts (at any given time) is indeed the base of our feeling both tied down to reality AND free frm the pitfalls of life. Paradoxical, again, we infj quickly find the paradoxes in our situations. If I'm feeling too disconnected; start a project today that requires my daily attention. If too tied down to daily tasks; turn up the ruminations for escaping. We're wired to always be able to find a level of inner peace. We have to learn how to use those abilities so we aren't in the wrong phase of thinking for too long. This old crone has learned quite a bit abt purpose.
You said "act of thinking backwards." I have always seen myself as being able to think both foreword and backward!

Punch me more to the limit where I wake up and start living my life .
This period for me is one of underlying creative endeavours it is not at the surface of things but underground. It does not require much action but seated at the desk writing & getting inspiration for my paintings. The issue is that I don't have a connection to succeeding. My sense of purpose is never in question. Life is not a planned line from start to finish. Being is not linear & achieving has it's own rules. Useful to society is not my understanding of what life should be. & the doing Vs being is another one of the utilitarian victims. I do not live on the lines of fast paced "productive""useful" understanding of life. As individual I value my own creativity pathway off the beaten track & I contest the workings of the economic growth system. & Question the rhetoric of the outer world so skilfully & pragmatically articulated around groups of interests. The realities of death of the American dream & the sabotaging of it's underlying values. The enslavement of living paycheck to paycheck. The irrelevance of voting because anyway you don't have where to choose from. The impossibility to achieve even when your work effort & quality are above the norm. The objectification of women & defining them only from one utilitarian perspective levelled at the basic of existence from where the rest of the functions of the system develop & branch. The impossibility & constant abuses toward uniformity & conformity as opposed of particular stands. All of these coupled with zero sum game approaches to existence. When you look at what most women achieve in life is nothing. When you look at what most men achieve in life is nothing. Life death & in between not much. Everything built to not last. Empty & devoid of intrinsic meaning. Passion direction effort etc all get to be wasted by others in a constant interplay of codependencies imposed by higher circles of power for profit extraction.
For instance I do not conform in my writing to the new dogma of what did you learn from your " experiences". Because the underlying agendas were the forefront inspite of what has surfaced individually from statistical point in my case. What was to be understood were the interplay of agendas the groups of interests & the codependent relationships not " lessons" to serve others in their " journey". Yes those where very high flying & mostly immaterial & hard to trace from the ground of things however they were & are determinant from all the other arguments I have brought.
