Definitely one of my favorite moments of the game. The way the music lined up with Dodo's movements and confusion... just perfect! Kinda wished the player hadn't moved when he shouldn't have (I can forgive the fakeout though.)
One of the rhythm based minigames in this rpg that I did not completely blow at. Although did anyone just think of dodo as a big chicken literally? That was my first idea of him when he came out and then trying to be mallow all I could think playing this for the first time "that wasn't very nice, calling mallow a chicken."
My mother was not exceptionally bright..and yet she conveyed to me that the dodo bird had in fact been hunted to extinction..which was made possible by the fact the "Dodo's" were exceptionally complacent and passive which made them easy prey for the first humans to inhabit the islands they were indigenous to.
Design and musical perfection married together for one hell of a funny experience. Fail or pass, but especially if you pass, you are entreated to statue-perfect comedy gold.
@@papyrussemi2848 The one thing some people criticize about it is that the helmet doesn't go over Dodo's eyes when pecking at the statues. Which kinda makes sense when you consider that Dodo feels more of the statues when pecking than actually seeing them.
@@Rediscool9 Only reason Dodo couldn't see Mario jump was that his helmet briefly covered his eyes when he leans forward to peck the statue. A detail that the remake doesn't have.
@@Max1996YT I mean Mario can still jump right in front of Dodo when he doesn’t have his helmet blocking his eyesight in the original and he doesn’t react as well so it honestly doesn’t make sense either way.
Pfft, I hear laughter when Mario entered the next room meaning whomever is their boss is (IDK Mario RPG lore nor gameplay) they're laughing up a storm in the background. If your timing is way off he does. Watching this video made me realize the timing isn't that tight but as a kid I remember having him go in and complain to Valentina even though I never got hit.
If you look close his helmet falls over his eyes mid peck which is the moment you need to jump. Presumably he doesn't see Mario jump but does notice he didn't seem to hit anything, which is why he gets confused.
I love how dodo casually breaks the laws of physics and goes out of bounds at the end

Gaslighting from Mario to Dodo.

I see what you did there

24 karat gold?
Lol

I thought he was a Dodo bird...
He looks a lot like a crow in my eyes. Just like Raphael Raven.

Can't wait to see how this looks in the remake.
Basically the same except the new aspect ratio means you can see Dodo run the entire length of the room out-of-bounds.

@@Runescythe9852 I’m confused. What exactly is the problem here?
Now that there is a remake, I truly hope out of all the moments in the game important to us all this is the one they get right. 😅😅
Seems mostly correct, except for the detail that actually makes the whole thing work: Dodo's helmet briefly covering his eyes only in the original.
just played this sequence this morning. just as hilarious as before.

One of the many, many highlights of this legendary game. Mario RPG is one of a kind.
I love this mini-game; especially the music.
It's also funny to fail by jumping a lot in front of him, he complains to Valentina that the statue is moving.

This is such an great rhythm game!
It's like Rhythm Paradise level of quality!
I love how the music stops every time mario jumps.
The fact that Nintendo forgot to remake the animation of Dodo's helmet covering his eyes, making the scene impossible 💀
Now we just assume that Dodo is really, really stupid.

His "tf?" Look after Mario jumps the first time.
Did you let yourself get hit the first time just for that ticklish dialogue?
this
Dodo: that statue... jumped??
imagine this was recreated in a game of gmod prop hunt lol
This was the funniest thing in the whole game and I loaded multiple times just to take part in it again.
I once argued on social media this was the most humorous sequence in any game ever..let alone mario rpg..and i am a harsh critique mind you!!!!!

I'm still waiting for the Siiva comments...
dabhdude I'm here
dabhdude YOU've been waiting quite a while
You found a “feather”
Oh no!
I like more this slap sound when dodo hits a statue than the remake version
So funny and so cool
Wait, so, if you manage to get through the whole thing, you get to skip the Dodo battle?
+Deucey Dee Yep.
It's better if you skip it, as you get the Feather, which gives +20 speed. Very handy.
Deucey Dee I didn't know there was a battle if you messed up lol
yep, not that Dodo is really a remotely hard boss except the one unskippable fight when Dodo takes the middle character away for a one on one battle.
Vince Barry I recommended having the Middle Character as Bowser

1.5 speed.
