One thing they messed up: in the original, Dodo’s helmet falls over his eyes comically when he goes for a peck. That’s why Mario’s entire bit there works, Dodo can’t see him jumping.
Dang, that's such a charming and important detail that made that part so hilarious. How could they forget?
Tbf it can now be interpreted as him being oblivious to the jumping or something like that
It actually does go over his eyes, however, the 3D model and depth perception make it a bit difficult to see.
@@SuiteBidit does not. Just pause during the pecks, you can totally see his eyes. Then compare to the original. The entire peck animation his eyes are completely obscured (helps to pause so you can see it better)

The helmet shifts forwards the same as the original, but depth perception and camera angle makes it look different.
I love how Mario just takes out the umbrella when Mallow goes to get his parents out. Pretty cute scene, honestly.

You missed the outcome where you jump alot in front of Dodo. Although all it does is change what he tries to Tell Valentina

Oh right, there was something about Mario no longer being considered a plumber, wasn't there, so now Plumber's Lament would not make as much sense. I could see it as a jab at the lack of Luigi too.

Plumber lament is better. "Legs of the masses" it was very smart joke. Just the kind of thing a lady like her would pretend to get. It's supposed to be ugly because it represents the unwashed masses. Like how rich people like to dress poor to make a fashion statement. I was confused when playing the new game cus I remember the joke being funny. Had to go look up the old game to see what the funny old joke was.
I honestly preferred Mario-as-statue being titled "A Plumber's Lament" and all of the ways Garro describes it.
Same as how they changed Magus' name to "Fiendlord" in the latest releases of CT.
While that's the literal translation from the Japanese, it just worked better.
Just like PSI sounds better than PK in Mother.

There are TWO Feathers this time around: you can get both of them, but should you CHOOSE to face Dodo first before his second fight alongside the excessively salty and vain Valentina - you can kiss the first Feather goodbye for it will be gone forever - with only the second one up for grabs. Though this might be intentional in the remake to have the secondary Feather should the first one be lost, having two would make for viable option for two slow party members to catch up more before the targets.
How do you get the 2nd one?

Wow they changed the dialogue of how he explained what the "Marotta" statue represented
I don't like the change imo. The original was purposefully trying to make degrading remarks about Mario's physique with the purpose of feeding into Valentina's narcissism. It was a comical bit where the joke worked because of how it was tied into the plot where they needed to infiltrate Mario into the castle, and in an act of desperation, Garro understandably tried convincing Valentina that the "statue" represents something that is essentially "beneath" her, at the expense of Mario's dignity. Here, the remake loses the joke in favor of something that honestly doesn't even make sense to me, in a vain attempt to make it more "kid friendly" or to "elevate" Mario so the players don't find Mario as a joke. Those kind of changes makes me question why did they even bother in the first place if the original game was so beloved how it was already?
@@MrSuperstargamer narcissistic doesn't mean you only want to see yourself beautiful in art you might sometimes want other great people in art next to you to show how great you are. And I don't know if it's because I'm french but she isn't that narcissistic in the game. She's more manipulative than anything else. Actually her whole thing is that she is manipulative. Also the king of the castle already had lots of golden statues of himself at all those places, and those statues were being replaced with the statues of the new queen. hope you can reflect on your outburst and calm down.

To inflate a narcissist's ego, you follow in that line of thinking to elevate their sense of self by either raising their status or putting others down.
With the cloud man deflating Mario's ego and Valentina absolutely loving, it is exactly narcissism as she's already elevated herself by replacing all the statues with herself. To present a means of lowering another person's ego and her loving it is narcissistic. If she was only vain, then she wouldn't have cared what the man said about Mario: she would have only wanted more statues of herself.
@@AkaiAzul she is somewhat narcissistic but her thing is that she is manipulative. Also technically since she became the new queen the statues of the king would get replaced with statues of her, there are statues of the king everywhere of course they would get replaced wether she is narcissistic or not if she is the new queen. Also there is an Easter egg where you see her get in love with booster and at first she doesn't want to, until booster says something we can't know and then she wants to get married with booster. If she was narcissistic like you said she would have acted very differently with booster, so in the end she is not that narcissistic.
@@tarlaihope Narcissists can fall in love. Manipulation is a common tactic they use to achieve the aforementioned boost of self ego and putting others down. Admittedly, we don't know why she decided to try to usurp the throne, be it for power or disapproval of the current reign.
With Booster, the man owns a tower and is probably rich and with servants / lackeys despite being a manchild. Unfortunately we don't know what he told her to change her mind. It could be something about her she liked, or his status.
They actually did fix the missing items issue. If for some reason you fail the statue game you can get the Feather from Treasure Hunting Toad in Moleville now. Also if you fail to get Booster's Charm/Amulet from losing the curtain game you can still get it by defeating Booster in the post game. So now if for some reason you want to challenge yourself by fighting these optional bosses from losing their respective minigames and still get the items that you would normally get if you won you now can.
I guess Mario did end up a wall decoration

@@knuclear200x It isn't. He doesn't care to polish, or more specifically, currently, instead of actually polishing statues, he decides to peck the things the source of his anger loves most, that being the statues.

Is it just me who thinks that Valentina looks WAY uglier in her boss form than her overworld form, or am I sane?
Its because her weird head and wide mouth is more prominent in boss form compared to Map form.
the one thing I notice in the remake is that they removed the parts where valentina hits Dodo (unless you count the credits of the SNES one) I think the reason I can think of is because people didn't find it funny? that's my guess.
Many probably didn't notice that cause they noticed more that Valentina doesn't jiggle when she's hit
The society has been sensitive to corporal punishments, that's why many concepts that did that removed it

It's a more accurate translation
The old SNES script was just as much a result of text character limitations as it was of translators putting a custom spin. The remake doesn't have those limitations so it can more consistently translate the Japanese script. Though they kept some things intact.
They even took out the Bruce Lee part when Mario wanted to fight Bowyer on his own
I kinda wish during Dodo's fake-out he didn't animate, just completely shift frames like the original

The laughing is in the OG too, just not as easy to tell that it is laughing.
