Legend RIDERS.... What a week on the New Canyon Strive:On I hope you like the review and like always if you have any question just ask.
👍Sam you are the best emtb tester who gives a good description of all types of fully damped emtb🤩.
I am 185 cm tall, frame size XL On my first emtb Canyon spectral ON 9.0 2019 which I rebuilt to Öhlin coil 170mm front and Öhlin coli rear with flip in the highest position to avoid padel stike, which I now love the geometry of.
Canyon has a Seat Tube Angle of 73.8° and as I have the saddle moved as far back as possible and shortened the stem to get the right position for me.
What I have noticed over the years is that the Seat Tube Angle has become steeper, up to 80° over the years as the engines have become stronger, which means you get a more "standing feeling" and more "hanging on the handlebars" feeling which is a shame when people the majority of bike tours cycle more horizontally.
Spectral ON compared to STRIVE has almost the same Top tube length, but where STRIVE has 40mm longer Reach.
What to do, easy to rebuild a bike but not the frames😊
Hey Kent thanks for the kind words I really take my good seriously these ebikes are not cheap so I really like to get it right!!! Yep Geometry is changing a lot I like it like this but I hope it doesn’t get anymore right now is perfect!
Thus or a wild price is way less on Canyon 12900 for wild vs 7500
Can someone do a test Strive:on vs Orbea Wild
Full sending it Sam! Decent video and love the bike, had ordered it already but even more glad I did now 🤘🏻
Hahaha thanks Jay! What a beast of a ebike you are going to love!
Great review!! I'm saving to get the canyon!
Thanks 🙏 mate
Great vid, thanks. Defo on my list fir when Im ready to make the eeb switch
Thanks Richard if you have any questions just ask
Thanks for your NICE review !!!
Already order the CFR in M for my 6'0ft tall..
🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼🤙🏼
Hey Nicolas thanks mate and congrats let me know when you get it!
@@SamsBikes of course, it's on the way ... Can't wait to ride the BEAST.
Another great review. Agree on the wireless dropper.
Thanks Alex, yep I think if they are going to go half they should go all the way
Exactly, and what’s an extra couple of hundred bucks when the bike is almost 10k!?!
Really good detailed review. You explained a lot of the factors really well.
Thanks rider
Have one...best bike I've ridden!! Great review, I agree with you entirely.
Great review Sam. This is on my shortlist but waiting to see what updates are on the Levo 3.5. Maybe just a drivetrain update? Lots of great e-bikes to choose from! :)
Thanks Steve, I hear you in the Levo 3.5 but I think the new Sram running gear is a little over kill it was good but I totally don’t need it.
Great review Sam… wish I could get Canyon emtb’s in Canada
Thanks mate! I know the Strive:On will be hitting the streets later this year so maybe Canada as well.
The suspension sounds exactly the same as my strive cfr underdog. It’s nice and lively, jumps amazingly, but also smashes rock and root gardens quite well. Great bike!!
Hi. Some issue with the lack of battery?
It's a very interesting and comprehensive video on this model, which I'm considering buying after my current Lapierre GLP2.
What's more, I think it's great that someone tried the top-of-the-range version, as it gives a different perspective from all the other tests where it was the mid-range model.
In the past, have you been able to try out the lapierre GLP2 to give us an idea of how the two compare?
Yaaaaaay ! Thanks Sam!
Thanks mate
Nice job!
Thanks Bobby
i was waiting for your review, and loved it. Nevertheless, i already ordered mine, and planned to use it massively on my local trails, and this summer in bikeparks (small jumps only, i'm too old for road gaps ^^).
Haha congrat Mat your going to love it mate let me know how you get on!
I love that you got this one - GREAT REVIEW! Phenomenal value and this checks every box for me...unfortunately it is not coming to the USA until SEPT. 😞
Thanks mate! Yes I feel the doors are starting to open for me! Normally it’s 6 months old before I get the bike but not this time thanks to you riders and Canyon! Yep I heard it’s later this year for America and Aussie
Canyon! Get this man the Torque.. we all want to see the review!! Ha, hope that works. Great review man. Looks like a killer bike but I gotta see you review the Torque before I pull the trigger 🤙
Hey Ryan thanks for the kind works mate! Yep keep to try the Torque but I feel for my style the Strive suits me better! I love it feels like a trail bike but has 170-160 also can’t go past the Bosch Race motor
Another great review, Sam. Canyon would've sold me one had they released it in the US. No idea when it's coming here, so instead I've put a Marin Alpine Trail E2 on order.
Hey Jason thanks for the kind words mate! Yes Canyon told me it’s coming they just don’t know when! Congrats on the new ebike let me know what you think
@@SamsBikes You know I will.
Opening track is a banger yeeeew!
Thanks Brett it worked so well with the Strive:On BEAST MODE hahahaha
What a sick looking bike
You know it Nicko
Strive vs orbea wild top models? Which would you choose? And any inside info when the US is going to get the strive?!?!
Hey Sam, I would go with Canyon which delivers the best price x technology available! Congratulations for the review!
Thanks mate I’m sure you will love it!!! And thanks for the kind words
Nice bike
Is the Strive available yet? I don’t see it on their website.
Any idea when this will be available in the USA? We only get the Shimano EP8 on the Spectral & Torque.
HSC does not require shock removal. Canyon includes the Allen tool for the task or you can make your own.
Nice review! I wish they had this bike in US, but for some reason they wont sell it here! Only the torque: on. Can you do a review on the torque on? Please!
Hey rider I did speak to Canyon and they said it is coming to America later in the year....
great video!! your jumping skill is amazing.
how is the bike on switchback or tight corner ? and compared to your levo, how playful is this Strive On ?
I have a levo 2020 with 170 fox 38 and set up mullet, looking for a new ebike now.
Hey mate thanks! I started racing BMX at 4 so I have year under my belt!!!! The Strive rides light and very agile and playful for its enduro name! It feels more like a trail bike but with some muscle to back you up! It’s a special bike
@@SamsBikes thanks!! trail bike with some muscle, I like that.
Great review. You said bike was a little harsh, did you have plush sag at like 30% and suspension not too much compression? hopefully bike can be plush.
Hey mate yes you can set this bike up more plush just open the compression and maybe use less volume spacers.
Which one would you prefer between the Canyon strive, Orbea Wild or the Yeti 160e?
I do know the ride quality of the Wild is simply that, so smooth and just eats up everything
Sam great review. I have my heart set on a pole voima but have been considering the strive on now. Have you ridden the voima to offer a opinion in different between the 2. Cheers Rob
Hey Rob thanks for the kind words! I would love to comment on the Voima but I still haven’t tested it. I’m sure it’s a great bike but to give you anymore insight I would need to test it. Thanks 🙏
@SamsBikes no dramas mate , I have a c1 norco range - current shape. It's a good bomber for the down hills but would like something a bit more playful. Good stuff with the videos and reviews coming from a fellow Aussie it's great to see.
Just ordered the underdog version as will slowly upgraded when things wear out and wanted black....
Great review....so how does it compare to the Spectral ON?? That said we cannot get the Strive ON here in Aus just yet....any indication Canyon when it will be available in the Great Land Down Under?
Sorry I just saw you Spectral ON comment later in the vid....
Hey Brendon I would really like to try the Spectral:On to see how different it is... Canyon said the Strive:On is coming to Aussie Land later in the year.
I wanted to put an order on this bike, but Canyon doesn’t ship their E bikes to Greece. So, I am going with either the Wild or the RS 7550 from Crestline! Keep up the good work!
That’s so strange that Canyon are not shipping to Greece 🇬🇷 both the Crestline and the Wild are both sweet e-bikes
@@SamsBikes It definitely is strange! Please Sam, talk to Canyon so that they can change their policy about e bikes, not only to Greece, but other European countries as well!
Crestline looks fantastic
@Tom Rebstock It ticks all the boxes but a bit pricey!
Great video! Is it posible to change parts on the bike ?
Thanks mate and yes you can change any party you want apart from the motor haha
Thanks for the incredible content! I never miss a video.
QUESTION: I live in San Diego California (lots of technical steep inclines, loose/dusty trails, large rock gardens, and rough downhills). I don't race or hit huge jumps, but I do charge inclines and hammer declines with the occasional small to medium jump. I'm choosing between the Orbea Wild and the Canyon Strive On. Which would you choose please and why??
Hey mate thanks for the kind words! I’m working on this video right now!! Coming soon
Thanks Sam. Looking forward to it!
I don't believe The Strive:on is even available in the US, at least I cant see it on Canyon Us WWW site. In fact, i can see any Canyon Full suspension EMTB with a Bosch Motor here... So they are out of my map...
Great vid Sam, the most informative review on the Strive:On
Quick question, what size to go for?? Im 185cm tall, inside leg 90cm, that puts me in between Medium & Large on the Canyon's website size calculator. You tested a Medium, what do you reckon as think I'm just slightly taller? Cheers, keep up the good work👍
Hey Dan thanks for the kind words! What bike do you ride right now and are you new or advanced mtber
@@SamsBikes I ride a Santa Cruz Nomad and Marin Alcatraz. I'd say I'm more advanced than newbie. It's an old Nomad so doesn't have a slack head angle
Ok 👌 well if your on a old Nomad I would say your happy on a smaller bike so maybe go the M just remember it feels small when you are climbing because of the 78 seat tube.
Ok. Thanks for your opinion!
nice
How does the Strive:On compare to the Orbea Wild? From your Videos I would think that the Strive:On is more fun on single track and shaped trains and the Wild is leaning more towards rougher trails right?
I think ill have to do a video on this question… both are amazing but need more time on the wild with good tires
I’m also very interested in knowing how they compare. I was about to order the wild but now it got complicated 😅
I'm exactly in the same spot, the wild has very good reviews but this one seems to offer more value per money ratio
@@MurielSG1 I tried to order the Wild M-team with custom colours, but the website didn’t work for my local dealer, the lead time was 3 months+ So I got fed up and ordered the Strive:ON
Strive On or Giant Reign E? What’s the pick?
That two tone white & grey looks far better than the mushy pea green on the CFR, although I’d prefer the black of the Underdog. Surprised there aren’t more colour options 👊🏽
crazy limited colors and never a good idea limiting colors to specs. Best way to convince me to get a full wrap or repaint
Yo rider totally agree they should have a few more colors
100%, I'd want the CFR parts on the Underdog frame. CFR color is enough to put me off even if it is a great bike/price point.
It should be army green then they would have my money 😂
Hey Sam. A couple of questions. At 175 I'm caught between s and m. Im concerned i will fall over the front on steep decents. You touched on it in the review but wondered how it was on steep rooty drops that you roll? Also, was hoping you could ride the torque on. The stack is higher which makes sizing down easier. Would love to know what you think after riding.
Hey John, as I said in the video if your in between sizes I would size up if your new to riding or want to slay enduro trails, and size down if you want a bike that jumps better and is more playful. I would love to get on the torque but I don’t feel that will happen this year.
I would go for the fox build also.
Yep I feel it’s the best value one in the line up!
New Torque on with bosch race! 😊
now we are talking.....
Was waiting for this for too long now. 🤣🔥 Better getting rid of the Pirellis I guess? I would also get rid of the entire cockpit and it’s kind of sad that the top spec doesn’t come with SRAM Stealth brakes. Still, a beautiful bike tho. Thanks for the amazing and in-depth review. 🔥🙏🏼
Rider if I’m honest I never used the stock tires because of Schwalbe and I love my tire set up! Yes I would of love to see this bike come with the new top of the line Sram brake but there you go! I’m glad you liked the review! Anymore questions please just ask!
@@SamsBikes What’s the width you’re running for both front and rear tire?
2.4 for the win mate
In my canyon box they provided a small allen key to adjust the Hsc without droping the shock
That’s good to know
Nice one!
Any ideas if or when this might come to Australia?
Not sure mate!
Hey Sam ! Ive ordered the underdog! Is it decent enough for a novice rider spec wise ? I used to have an SL Carbon Comp before it got stolen , so i guess im going to see a huge difference in power but i was just wondering about the spec compared to my old ride?
Anyone have any thoughts?
Hey Marcus congrats on the new ebike your going to love it! Yes you will notice a massive difference in power and 💯 for a novice rider this bike is perfect for you.
Which one would you buy between the 2023 Giant Reign e+2 vs Canyons Strive ON CFR,
they both seem close in price? Thanks again love your channel!
Oh mate that’s a hard one ☝️ I would say the Giant feels like a bigger bike maybe like a 180-180 where the strive feels more like a trail bike but has nice suspension to back you up
Appreciate the feedback.
Sam’s can I ask speclized new app lock system will this work on Levo turbo 2023 old TUC
I'm pretty sure, unfortunately it doesn't work
Yes just checked will not work disappointed some people are changing TUC to the digital screen but down saying work and not could void warranty. Lee
Hi Sam, should I get the a) Strive:ON CFR LTD, or b) Levo SL S-Works Gen2?
Very different bikes mate! Maybe send me a private message on Instagram and we can chat
If you had to pick one... Strive or Levo? I can't help but to think there must be a Levo Gen 4 getting cooked up for release maybe next year any intel?
Oh mate that’s a very hard one both amazing bikes and no I don’t have any information on a new Levo
when can you buy the bike? i do not see it on there website
You just head to canyon website if you don’t see it it’s not available in your country just yet
Hi Sam, i tried it and i really loved it. But i have an oppurtiunity at the same price with a Rocky Mountain Powerplay 2023 C70. Can you compare them ? Which one is the funniest ? Thanks for your reviews and feedbacks.
Dude it’s a hard call! Maybe watch my Rocky Mountain review, I feel the Rocky is a fitter riders bike but both are great
@@SamsBikes i tried the Rocky Mountain today and it was a big surprise for me.On the Downhill side i think that it's pretty the same bike with a lot of agility, responsiveness, a very fun bike. Maybe, i felt the RM more capable to go fast when it's really rocky with big steps. On the uphill side, the motor is awesome. I rode the Mondraker Crafty with a Bosch Gen 4 for 3 years, and i never did climbs like today. I had a lot of fun in climbing mode and i think i can improve and push my limit. I calibrated the Dyname at the beginning and i changed the tunes in the mode. The standard mode is not fun. With more percentage and boost, the bike gives more pleasure. So my choice is done !!!
Nice Sam, now when is Canyon going to send you the Torque on???
If the Stive jumps very cleanly will the Torque be a ground to ground missile.??😅
Btw when is YT going to launch a new duck 🦆??
Or did i miss something?
Hey Dano lets see if Canyon will send me the Torque:On I''m sure it will be a very fun bike so lets see... I have not heard anything on the Duck yet..
@@SamsBikes 🤞🏻on the Torque!!
Maybe YT is up to something..
It's just the old duck with different travel/wheel size..🤔
Oh and a bigger battery..
How many Nm?
What do you think about the Underdog version? Is it good for beginners?
Yes totally great value
My Bike in size M weighs new from the factory without pedals and with tubes exactly 23.1 kg (625 Wh). Are you sure yours is around 24 kg?
Hey Benji I did not weigh it in sorry it was a very short time I had to test the bike but 23.1 is great. Enjoy it brother
Qual versão?
@@newj4014 Strive:ON CFR LTD (Top Version with Race Motor) in Size M 625Wh
Are you running on 2.5/2.4 wide or 2.6 wide?
Hey Stefano yes mate I always run 2.4 front and back
I can't wait to buy this bike when it comes out in the united states
Yep it’s a beast
More of a Torque man myself. Extra travel would help cover up my shitty riding😅
hahaha Tony classic I'm sure you can ride well.... I would love to try the Torque:On lets see if Canyon will send it out to me.
How does it compare to the Orbea Wild?
Mate I need more time on the Wild! Both fantastic bikes
@@SamsBikes if it were on looks alone then I'd say the Wild takes it.
Agreed the Wild is a looker
Strive on or orbea wild?
too hard to say I had 7 days on the Stive:On and 5 hours on the Wild... both are amazing
Awesome bike. Do you know when it will be available in Australia 🇦🇺?
Hey mate it should be later in the year
i am 187 cm tall (87 legs), would i take the L or XL best?
It’s so hard to say mate both will work! If you want to play more the L if you want it more planted and stable go the XL
Spectral:on or this?
Oh so hard lets see if Canyon sends me the Spectral:On and ill let you know...
120KG payload limit though. I'm 105! :(
This or the Wild? Such a tough choice.
Mate I know! I need more time on the wild both fantastic bikes
@@SamsBikes I felt that when I watched your review of the Wild. The value for money of the Strive:ON is just so good! Great reviews for both bikes :)
I had the same dilemma, but i ended up putting an order on this over the Wild, i prefer having easy access to the battery.
@@Echoes- That’s definitely been in the back of my mind. None of the reviews of the Strive I’ve seen has said that it’s not stiff because of the removable battery.
@@Echoes- God such a huge miss for me on the wild with the battery design, I have no garage or house space to put a bike inside every cold night and winter, and imagine living in an apartment where you cant take your battery in with you! I was 95% otherwise sold on getting a Wild, and I don't otherwise need to swap batterys, it's really just for managing battery life with the cold here
Canyons prices are getting out of control. Whilst the rrp of brands like Specilaized are higher The reality is that there are huge deals out there and paying almost 10k for a direct to consumer brand with a ZEB and aluminium rims is a bit of a piss take! For the same money or even less you can get a Kenevo SL s works or a Levo Pro. Something’s not right in that equation!
Did you notice the transmission X01?
@@MartinTheTube did you notice the 10k price tag, lack of a wireless dropper and carbon rims as well as the older RSC brakes? Or were you too busy being a wise ass?
You seem to be a master at comparing apples and oranges. But calculating is probably not your strong point.
Take a look at really comparable equipment of different brands and what prices are called there by the dealers.
But, hey. Have fun with your inexpensive Specialized 😂
@@MartinTheTube your comment makes absolutely no sense! I specifically mention that the rrp of brands like Specialized is higher but the actual prices paid are not. You can currently pick up a Levo S works for 11k, rrp is 15. For 11k you get carbon wheels top of the line components and a range extender… all this from a brand where you have an actual usable dealer network for warranty issues. So how does 10k at canyon work for a bike with worse spec?
Vs. Your Levo ?
So hard to say mate! I would say just the fact it has more suspension I might go for the strive
Makes sense fella….although I’m still totally stuck by my “old” Kenevo Turbo that seems to suit 29/29 more than 27/27 for some reason …a 180/180 29 or mullet Ebike which seems only to be matched in travel by a few…
However Canyon seem to have worked hard on the geo to be similar to Spesh S sizing ?
Keep rocking buddy
Bravo, riesci a rimanere libero e posato nei tuoi commenti
Who is your Stuntrider?
Hahahaha nice one ☝️
@@SamsBikes
Thank you- Great Review, nice Ride!
Whats the gps tracking you talk about?
Great vid btw
Thanks mate! Yep the GPS tracking is for security so you can see where your bike is if it gets stolen or also it could be used by your partner if you got hurt and they couldn’t find you! Pretty interesting and great to see this tech in e-bikes
@@SamsBikes is that something you need to buy extra from third party or is it built in alredy? I’ve been looking at that bike but haven’t read anything about the tracker
I obv think it’s a great feature that every e-bike should have! But I’ve only seen that spectral has it
Why is th downtube so hige with the wasted space around the battery? Noise dampening?🤷♂️
now sure but this bike just works
The Stive :ON has a big problem o the BatteryLatch, that develop play, unpluging and turning of the bike
It is affecting all bikes, and deffect will appear accordingly to ride style.
Canyon nor Bosch has a solution, and Customers are strandled with a deffective product.
Cuidado
Can email the problem with photos I’ll see what Canyon have to say samwordley@gmail.com
I have the same issue, it’s terrible, every 250 km it will break again and again.
Tengo el mismo problema. Es terrible. Cada 250 km se romperá de nuevo.
Y de momento no tienen solución. Siguen fabricando y vendiendo si haber aportado soluciones. Sabiendo que están vendiendo un producto muy caro que se va a romper seguro.
Its funny how the shimano motor gets the rep online, of lacking power or range.
Is it that people dont want to pedal their e bike? At 1000 miles on my EP8 motored Canyon, it does everything easy in trail mode, and keeps up fine with any other e bike I ride with. If I want something really fast I would ride my 300 KTM, it goes just fine.
It went together easily in less than an hour. czcams.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
It’s a M I mentioned it manny times in the review mate
TORQUE ON CF 9 is better :-)
Why no US version they have the Torque on which looks like a Hell of a Enduro / DH rig
The Strive:On will be hitting the street in America later in the year
