    Anyone else noticed how the reactors on smaller ships can power more/larger guns that barley fit the ship in addition to everything else. While the larger ships tend to be very... Under armed

    • @HarvestMoonHowl
      @HarvestMoonHowl Před 2 lety +58

      Yeah, the older Dreadnought cruisers (think Katana fleet) are a great example of that. In Star Wars Legends lore, by the time of the Empire they were relatively cheap and easy to maintain for a large capital ship. But, that was offset by outdated systems, a slow sublight cruising speed and not many heavy weapon hard points (even though they were roughly 2/3 the size of a Victory Star Destroyer).
      The Corporate Sector Authority liked to use them as their ships-of-the-line in the old Han Solo novels.

    • @ChakatBlackstar
      @ChakatBlackstar Před 2 lety +72

      Perhaps Star Wars reactors suffer from the law of diminishing returns as they get larger/need to power larger ships, so smaller spaceframes end up overpowered while larger vessels come across as relatively underwhelming and lethargic.

      it's not like the couldn't add more guns either, during the vong war the Republic stripped all the guns off the lusankya (a super star destroyer) and just slapped them on isd 1's until they had so many guns that when light hit the side of the ships almost all you could see was turbolaser batteries.

    • @austinwhite3132
      @austinwhite3132 Před 2 lety +7

      @@MrANTICRAZY that would just take up more room also such thing would have training curves which was the problem with some more revolutionary and sophisticated ships adding to that point a new cooling system would needed to be thought of this would be more complicated and require more crew which would need more space cores don’t just supply power to the weapons they supply power to millions onboard the ship and the multiple subsystems needed turbo lasers one of the most used ship-to-ships tend to take up space and power and are resource draining as well when it comes to maintenance as well as the power needed to operate the multi layer shields sensor packages and communication arrays so the idea of smaller cores=smaller ship is redundant because a bigger core is needed this would not only need a new cooling design and training but maintenance would be longer

    there are 74 ships on this list, also the editing needs a LOT of work. am i complaining? not really. my brain is just ultra neurotic and i can't help it (hence the mild sarcasm), i wonder if i'm on the spectrum. with that out of the way...
    as always a lot of strange naming and classification conventions in star wars with little consistency in some places and a lot of consistency in other somewhat strange cases; case in point a galaxy with trillions of inhabitants and millions if not billions of worlds only seems to have about ten starship development companies but a lot of these ships just have letters for names (rho, lambda, C, X, etc.) when letters are typically used to denote variants of a model or class. also they throw around the word "class" a lot and don't use it the way we use it IRL, the F-16 isn't a class of fighter, it's a model within the fighter class (yes this is arguable but i believe this is how the conventions work IRL). to be fair this likely stems from the practice of combining aerial and naval real-life conventions (which often conflict) to create the norms we are typically used to seeing applied for spacecraft; furthermore this all adds a degree of depth and texture to the universe.
    i will never get the last 90 minutes of my life back so i hope this list is helpful, you're welcome.

    Star wing wasn't as bad as you're saying. It was made to combat x-wings, having the same maneuverability while being a bit slower.
    Still, it was an advanced starfighter, it had strong hull, stronger shields and could drop all of it's ordnance at once, making it a perfect strike craft. Ion cannons also helped to battle smaller capital ships. It also had a hyperdrive, which combined with it's 2 ordnance launchers made it an amazing surgical strike craft.

    • @robertmartinu8803
      @robertmartinu8803 Před 2 lety +3

      I always considered the Star Wing as sitting between an Y and B wing; A bomber/heavy fighter with the ability to defend itself against most fighters. Unfortunately on the wrong side of asymmetric warfare.

    • @miqvPL
      @miqvPL Před 2 lety +1

      @@robertmartinu8803 oh it's way more maneuverable than an Y-wing. While also being faster. It's a good dogfighting craft, maybe some angled target profile leaves much to be desired but it makes it up with hull durability and shielding.
      Strike-wise it has the same secondary loadout as the B-wing, but heavily lacks ion firepower. But with it's launchers and targeting computer allowing to fire all ordnance at once I think it can serve as a mini torpedo sphere against small frigates- fly in front of a Nebulon B frigate, completely overcharge&overuse ion cannons to dent the shields of the frigate a bit and then Fire 10 out of 12 of your proton torpedos directly at the frigate's bridge. An impact like that should lower the shields enough in order to fire additional torpedoes at now undefended bridge.
      Or pack like 6 ion torpedoes and 6 regular ones. boom, boom. Frigate gone. Hell, I think it would work against a Dreadnought Heavy Cruiser but don't quote me on that.

    I remember playing the Star Wars: Rebellion strategy game on the PC in the early 2000's. The Carrack Light Cruiser was one of my favorites for exploration/scouting since it had a very high in-game hyperspace speed, but it was only available for the Empire. I would build a fleet of about 6 to 10 and just send it all over the place in an effort to find the Rebel headquarters.

    One moment I have to raise the volume because the guy is whispering, the next the music is super loud, then I lower the volume and suddenly I can't tell what he's saying, so I raise the volume again and he starts yelling (or rather, he's not yelling, but his volume is raised super high), so my neighbors are now knocking at the door.
    I guess what I'm trying to say is: "What the fuck?"
    Sincerely,
    a subscriber

    I LOVE starship content it’s the most amazing part of Star Wars to me and appreciate the vids. Also, Star Wars Empire at War, the Thrawn’s Revenge Mod?? Makes it possible to see some of these ships in action and it’s amazing.

    my favorite part of the Gladiator, is that in most of its art you can see the hole for the peg. It was most heavily featured in the tabletop game star wars armada, and im guessing their sculp is used as the basis for most of its art and the artists keep forgetting theres not a huge hole in the middle of the generator dome

    The VT-49 Decimator
    The Gladiator Star Destroyer
    Raider ll Class Corvette
    Pelta Class Frigate
    Starhawk Battleship

    In the D6 SW RPG (TTRPG), Adventure Module "Strikeforce Shantipole", the Legends accounting of the origins of the B-wing, I had to just scrap the B-wing entirely in favor of the much more fun, Rylan Gunstar and Gunstar-S (Death Blossom Variant).

    • @HarvestMoonHowl
      @HarvestMoonHowl Před 2 lety +2

      One is a smaller, but relatively high yield conventional warhead. While the other is actually a scaled down hydrogen bomb. Considering that, it probably would take a couple of Proton Torpedoes to down the first Death Star, even while being detonated in the reactor core.

    not sure whats up, there is some problems with the sound mixing in this video, some segments, you talk loud, some segments you are quiet, and the inbetwwen music for the tranisitions are too loud, the video content is actually very intresting, but the mixing serious makes it a bit harder to watch.
    im a regular here, kinda odd cuz, this is the first time i noticed anything wrong about the sound mixing, maybe u guys hired a new editor, please dont fire them, just point it out.

    I looked at Ownasaber's stuff. nice hilts... just wish there was one with a duelist's hilt. like Count Dooku's. I fence as a hobby and I can't see any other logical way to use a blade that can cut through absolutely anything than as a rapier, assuming the light blade is weightless or at least very light.

    I was hoping that the Cantwell Class Arrestor Cruiser was going to have some history behind it. If It was a 1000+ year old cruiser prototype for the galaxy that no one wanted, then it could have been used by a planet as a space station/security post, when the Empire is declared the Cantwell Cruiser becomes their planetary sentinel.
