I appreciate this video, I really do, but the music is kind of obnoxiously loud.
That is wedge shaped, it just has cuts in it
Hi Alan! Just curious, where do you get so much of this “historical” Star Wars information from? Don’t worry- I won’t use it to try and put you out of business. Just curious if it’s all from different legends novels or what?
Thanks!
Long live Ukraine
@@ddge260 wikis I get my research from their you would be surprise on what you could learn about SW.
whoever mixed your audio needs to calm down with the loud music playing while you talk.
Anyone else noticed how the reactors on smaller ships can power more/larger guns that barley fit the ship in addition to everything else. While the larger ships tend to be very... Under armed
Yeah, the older Dreadnought cruisers (think Katana fleet) are a great example of that. In Star Wars Legends lore, by the time of the Empire they were relatively cheap and easy to maintain for a large capital ship. But, that was offset by outdated systems, a slow sublight cruising speed and not many heavy weapon hard points (even though they were roughly 2/3 the size of a Victory Star Destroyer).
The Corporate Sector Authority liked to use them as their ships-of-the-line in the old Han Solo novels.
Perhaps Star Wars reactors suffer from the law of diminishing returns as they get larger/need to power larger ships, so smaller spaceframes end up overpowered while larger vessels come across as relatively underwhelming and lethargic.
@@ChakatBlackstar That's fixable in a larger ship by installing several reactors built for smaller ships, You can't tell me a civilization that has mastered FTL technology cant figure out optimization of power between a multi-source system.
it's not like the couldn't add more guns either, during the vong war the Republic stripped all the guns off the lusankya (a super star destroyer) and just slapped them on isd 1's until they had so many guns that when light hit the side of the ships almost all you could see was turbolaser batteries.
@@MrANTICRAZY that would just take up more room also such thing would have training curves which was the problem with some more revolutionary and sophisticated ships adding to that point a new cooling system would needed to be thought of this would be more complicated and require more crew which would need more space cores don’t just supply power to the weapons they supply power to millions onboard the ship and the multiple subsystems needed turbo lasers one of the most used ship-to-ships tend to take up space and power and are resource draining as well when it comes to maintenance as well as the power needed to operate the multi layer shields sensor packages and communication arrays so the idea of smaller cores=smaller ship is redundant because a bigger core is needed this would not only need a new cooling design and training but maintenance would be longer

there are 74 ships on this list, also the editing needs a LOT of work. am i complaining? not really. my brain is just ultra neurotic and i can't help it (hence the mild sarcasm), i wonder if i'm on the spectrum. with that out of the way...
as always a lot of strange naming and classification conventions in star wars with little consistency in some places and a lot of consistency in other somewhat strange cases; case in point a galaxy with trillions of inhabitants and millions if not billions of worlds only seems to have about ten starship development companies but a lot of these ships just have letters for names (rho, lambda, C, X, etc.) when letters are typically used to denote variants of a model or class. also they throw around the word "class" a lot and don't use it the way we use it IRL, the F-16 isn't a class of fighter, it's a model within the fighter class (yes this is arguable but i believe this is how the conventions work IRL). to be fair this likely stems from the practice of combining aerial and naval real-life conventions (which often conflict) to create the norms we are typically used to seeing applied for spacecraft; furthermore this all adds a degree of depth and texture to the universe.
i will never get the last 90 minutes of my life back so i hope this list is helpful, you're welcome.
thank you
you rock
Yeah you rock
thanks everyone! 😬
Thank you so much
Mot sure if it was just me, but the audio through this vid was a bit iffy and might need to be fixed
Star wing wasn't as bad as you're saying. It was made to combat x-wings, having the same maneuverability while being a bit slower.
Still, it was an advanced starfighter, it had strong hull, stronger shields and could drop all of it's ordnance at once, making it a perfect strike craft. Ion cannons also helped to battle smaller capital ships. It also had a hyperdrive, which combined with it's 2 ordnance launchers made it an amazing surgical strike craft.
I always considered the Star Wing as sitting between an Y and B wing; A bomber/heavy fighter with the ability to defend itself against most fighters. Unfortunately on the wrong side of asymmetric warfare.
@@robertmartinu8803 oh it's way more maneuverable than an Y-wing. While also being faster. It's a good dogfighting craft, maybe some angled target profile leaves much to be desired but it makes it up with hull durability and shielding.
Strike-wise it has the same secondary loadout as the B-wing, but heavily lacks ion firepower. But with it's launchers and targeting computer allowing to fire all ordnance at once I think it can serve as a mini torpedo sphere against small frigates- fly in front of a Nebulon B frigate, completely overcharge&overuse ion cannons to dent the shields of the frigate a bit and then Fire 10 out of 12 of your proton torpedos directly at the frigate's bridge. An impact like that should lower the shields enough in order to fire additional torpedoes at now undefended bridge.
Or pack like 6 ion torpedoes and 6 regular ones. boom, boom. Frigate gone. Hell, I think it would work against a Dreadnought Heavy Cruiser but don't quote me on that.
The Star Wing gives off the same vibes as the A-10 Warthog. Point it at the enemy and see them flee.
man i love the Gladiator class ISD 600m ship with a decen't hangar for the size and weapons much more useful to deploy 3 or 4 of those insted of an ISD with pickets.
Agreed I wish it got some more love in and out of universe :D
Just imagine what it could fit with an extra 66m on its length
@@greatthinker4209 a lot of the devils lettuce
@@jwatt1800 ahh additional storage space for morale, good thinking 😁🤙
In thrawns revenge I usually use like 3 gladiators over an ISD
I always found it funny... In naval terms, a destroyer is a small, fast ship, usually assigned to carrier escort duty. In Star Wars, star destroyers are large capital ships that functions more like carriers.
No they arnt. Things like the praetor or even executor filled the rolls of a battleship. Star destroyers are simply all you need to secure a systemcfrom pirates. Likecdestroyers todsy are used to hunt down pirates. And destroyers arnt small. Frigates and corvettes are small.
Guy: "I have a terrible idea, wanna hear it?"
Jedi: "Sure."
Guy (slaps roof of fighter): "This baby here can only be armed by you inserting your wizard sword into the controls."
Jedi (rubs jaw): "Sounds legit, I'll take 3000 of them."
Lol! 😂
But can they throw in a toaster?
I remember playing the Star Wars: Rebellion strategy game on the PC in the early 2000's. The Carrack Light Cruiser was one of my favorites for exploration/scouting since it had a very high in-game hyperspace speed, but it was only available for the Empire. I would build a fleet of about 6 to 10 and just send it all over the place in an effort to find the Rebel headquarters.
A manufacturing message has been received!!!!
An elegant Game for a more civilized age. I liked playing Empire but I had more success with the Rebels. I loved the massive battles on my sick 500Mhz Gateway Computer 😋. I remember the game manual being fantastic and that awesome poster with all the ships and info on it. 🙂
I miss those gaming days.
I still have that game disc, nothing to play it on these days. I am trying to remember which ship was the anti starfighter platform.
Such a fantastic game, Miss it.
@Melody_Raventress GOG should release an updated version
The audio quality wasn't all there for this one ngl but still great video love the channel!
The time has come, execute rare ship list 66
It will be done, my Lord.
@@TruePacifist201 thank you
Audio mixing Is a bit weird this video
This is my favorite Star Wars channel, hands down. I love your breakdowns of ships and factions, and your relative neutrality on almost every topic - but having the right morals where it matters. Another great video, Allan.
58:97 Actually, the best way for the Trade Federation to have won the Clone Wars would have been for them to go for the more expensive Droid Option of Heuristic Processors instead of a Centralized Command & Control Brain and Remote Receivers in each Battle Droid...if all their Droids could operate independently from the Central Control Ship, then they would have been MUCH harder to stop and at least 10x more dangerous and effective combatants...
Also the gladiator star destroyer definitely packs more than 2 squadrons of starfighters, it must've been an error in the data. Especially considering how many hangar space it has and how tight can tie fighters be paced.
People estimate 4-6 squadrons on this ship
Perhaps the archives are incomplete
Im not sure how accurate it is but the one in empire at war thrawns revenge has 4 squadrons. Most of the details are accurate in the game with very few mistakes
Love it how the Music is louder then the Talking
Congrats to Steve for making flag rank! He'd had some tough times, so making it that far is damn impressive!
Hello 👋
I have a video idea if you already haven't done it.
You could do a video on what weapon(s) and|or vehicle (s) could counter an AT-AP, AT-DP, AT-ST, AT-AT, AT-M6, and any other walker I've missed. (The weapon(s) and|or vehicle(s) can come from any era in Star Wars. For example, Clone war, Imperial, and First Order era.)
Great idea!
Awesome video
Thanks for the video
Didn't know there will be such numerous ships in star wars universe
Great vid. Thanks for showing the C47. I grew up on Air Force bases around that plane. My dad put in a total of 21,000 flight hours with over 15k in the C47. He spent years working with the manufacturer to develop that plane as a gunship to be used in Vietnam.
I love the long format! Means I can listen to it like a podcast :)
Generally speaking, the larger a ship is, the rarer it tends to be.
yes and no
Be nice to have this time stamped with all the diffrent ships
feel free to make it
Massive content in this video that has to be respected. Sound mixing was sacrificed though.
The Tector, when your team made a mistake but you don't want to admit it.
Been loving this starship content you’ve been doing lately
You guys should make a video about rarest droids
I think this was a great video except for the difference in audio level for different ships and the poor editing
SometimES I HAVE difficulty CONTroling thE VOLUME OF MY voice
It is not poor editing, you are obviously just not blinking correctly. It requires much practice to get it right. Lol
The Eclipse-class Super Star Destroyer is probably one of my favorite Star Destroyer types
"The Jedi's mission to to maintain peace and order in the Galaxy, and most importantly, prevent loss of life."
"Let's give them Bombers!"
- Some republic aviation weapons officer
This video was a behemoth, but I loved it. This vid is full of cool ships that aren’t really given the spotlights.
Lots of work went into this. Thanks for creating!
Actually @Generation Tech ,the MC30C Frigate does not lack the redundant shielding Mon Cal ships are known for but it does have an extra thin hull plating/armor because it needed to be fast .
5:02 it looks like a romulan bird of prey!
Tactically, an open droid socket seems odd. You would think there might be an armored lid or something
Usually the shields would be enough to protect them. Vader got a lucky shot off on R2.
Assault Frigate Mark I was the continuation of the Dreadnought. Not the Mark II.
Bro I love your videos how deep in depth you go when explaining star warS have made me a true Generation Tech fan #KeepitGoing
Damn guys
A full hour video
Got a correction on the star wing in xwing games its classed as a gunboats in the tie fighter game and the others then there is a missile variant called the missile boat
thank you Alan for all the killer content you put out! i really appreciate it. you are bad ass brother!
Easter eggs everywhere in these great ships compilation.
Take a peek at the droid chef on the commercial ship our doomed lovers are riding. It reappears in Bib Fortuna's kitchen when Fennick & Boba enter the palace.
Love these longer compilation videos, keep up the great work. Humanity first!
I learn more about Star Wars here than any other place, Thanks!!
Video editing and sound is all over the place. Are you okay over there?
Thanks for all your teams hard work and as always attention to detail 🇬🇧👍
Something to listen to while I’m doing my art homework! Thanks!
PHILLY SPORTS!!!! Finally get a mention
audio is mad jacked up throughout the beginning
Great work GenTech, I really like the Carrack class cruiser and Victory class ISD.
Cool video out of no where!! Really awesome thanks!!
(At 29:07)
I have a hot wheels di-cast metal, model of the Imperial Arrestor Cruiser. It first appeared (in canon anyway) in one of the deleted scenes from the Solo anthology film.
Bruh that sponsor deal blew my ears out 😭😭
*I appreciate this video, I really do, but the music is kind of obnoxiously loud.*
Gladiator class star destroyer: "We tried to specifically find an imperial star destroyer that wasn't wedge-shaped" *Shows a picture of a ship with TWO WEDGES*
The volume of this video was all over the fucking place.
One moment I have to raise the volume because the guy is whispering, the next the music is super loud, then I lower the volume and suddenly I can't tell what he's saying, so I raise the volume again and he starts yelling (or rather, he's not yelling, but his volume is raised super high), so my neighbors are now knocking at the door.
I guess what I'm trying to say is: "What the fuck?"
Sincerely,
a subscriber
So much information to absorb. Any suggestions for more videos to study and watch?
I suggest ecksheartladder
As a philly native and lifelong philly sports fan, I will say you would only need that kind of fire power if you’re a Dallas fan😂 for anyone curious the joke starts at about 14:14
I LOVE starship content it’s the most amazing part of Star Wars to me and appreciate the vids. Also, Star Wars Empire at War, the Thrawn’s Revenge Mod?? Makes it possible to see some of these ships in action and it’s amazing.
Long videos are the best. Thank you generation tech
Even though it’s not on the list, the Gozanti-Class Cruiser will always be one of my favorites behind the I1SD and the Resurgent Class SD
" What would you like to call this new class of star destroyer? " ' GIRTH. '
Finally, someone mentioned the Jedi bomber!
my favorite part of the Gladiator, is that in most of its art you can see the hole for the peg. It was most heavily featured in the tabletop game star wars armada, and im guessing their sculp is used as the basis for most of its art and the artists keep forgetting theres not a huge hole in the middle of the generator dome
The Nu-Class attack transport is my favorite shuttle in Star Wars. Other ships I like that were mentioned include:
The V-Wing starfighter
The VT-49 Decimator
The Gladiator Star Destroyer
Raider ll Class Corvette
Pelta Class Frigate
Starhawk Battleship
5:14 Holy dam!! That looks more like a B-17 Flying Fortress...
"I specifically looked for non wedge shaped star destroyers." Galactic Empire: laughs in different arrangements of wedge shaped star destroyers.
In the D6 SW RPG (TTRPG), Adventure Module "Strikeforce Shantipole", the Legends accounting of the origins of the B-wing, I had to just scrap the B-wing entirely in favor of the much more fun, Rylan Gunstar and Gunstar-S (Death Blossom Variant).
Eeey! The Starwing is the Gunboat from X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter! :D I love that thing!
What’s the difference between a concussion missile and a proton torpedo?
One is a smaller, but relatively high yield conventional warhead. While the other is actually a scaled down hydrogen bomb. Considering that, it probably would take a couple of Proton Torpedoes to down the first Death Star, even while being detonated in the reactor core.
My ear drums popped like the death star. thanks Alan. :)
10:14 Don't ya mean Paratroopers?
Huh, looks like we're back to normal. Wonder if the Jedi bombers use any high yield munitions
Most Definitely, Most Abso-fraking-lutely loved and Truly, Truly enjoyed watching this Incredibly Awesome 1hr+ vid of some Star Wars Starship goodness right here!!!!!
This is, without a fraking doubt in my mind, my Most Absolute favorites video that I have watched So fraking Far!!!!!!!!!!
How do I find a list or the reference clips used in this episode specifically the one where he talks about the jedi T6 shuttle when two people are shot in one before lonch in the lonch bay?
37:15 isn’t that a battle moon?
Cantwell is now in Andor! 28:26
Looking at this background I think you should make a video on Star Wars best looking pilot outfits, infantry outfits, etc.
not sure whats up, there is some problems with the sound mixing in this video, some segments, you talk loud, some segments you are quiet, and the inbetwwen music for the tranisitions are too loud, the video content is actually very intresting, but the mixing serious makes it a bit harder to watch.
im a regular here, kinda odd cuz, this is the first time i noticed anything wrong about the sound mixing, maybe u guys hired a new editor, please dont fire them, just point it out.
I’ve been noticing editing problems like this for a while. Things like sound being too loud, to clips playing over each other or him repeating himself. I hope it gets fixed.
It was a good list, but sadly the SW EU is so big none of my favorites were in there-bellator class SSD, vigil class corvette, broadside class cruiser, revenge class super carrier and the VF-25 chiss cruiser
I looked at Ownasaber's stuff. nice hilts... just wish there was one with a duelist's hilt. like Count Dooku's. I fence as a hobby and I can't see any other logical way to use a blade that can cut through absolutely anything than as a rapier, assuming the light blade is weightless or at least very light.
49:16 Am I the only one who thinks the Pelta-class frigate looks blatantly Corellian despite being a Kuat Drive Yards product?
4:30 Darth maul has a mouse
We’re there any vintage ships such as capital ships that were 700-800 years old but still in service?
The B-Wing is awesome.
Liked for XG-1 gunboat!
I was so confused by the length of this video lol
when i read the title, i thought, alan hasn’t released a big vid in a while, an hour?? thank YOUUU!
I love Geonosian warships, it would be so cool to control a ship through smell.
That would be hard, what if i smell food while piloting?
Seriously this many videos in and you guys still do not know how to not overpower the explanations of the ships with loud music.
I’m starting to think that the cipher blade is the only lightsaber they have.
*The only one they have that HE owns
I was hoping that the Cantwell Class Arrestor Cruiser was going to have some history behind it. If It was a 1000+ year old cruiser prototype for the galaxy that no one wanted, then it could have been used by a planet as a space station/security post, when the Empire is declared the Cantwell Cruiser becomes their planetary sentinel.
How long did it take you to pick out the 66 ships to talk about - not counting recording and editing time? This is some serious detail bro..
Great video, could do with a lower volume mix on the music though.
love this kind of video
32:08 model is from a Roblox game called 'Project Stardust'
Let's just say that if the empire focused on even mass production of half of the ships planned for them.. then things certainly would have turned out differently
5:46 you sure thsts the nbt 630? Theres other designs thst look different, it was a better yet costly upgrade to the y wing
Love this show.
Music is way too loud!
