In this After Effects motion graphic tutorial we are going to be taking a look at how to use the roughen edges tool to give letter a gooy liquid text effect that simulates a liquid effect. This liquid effect tutorial can be used to produce liquid shapes as well. Liquid text effect is accomplished through a 2d animation style where dripping liquid appears to be dripping from the logo animation.

Adobe After Effects 2017 (AE 2017) is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of film making and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing and animation. It also functions as a very basic non-linear editor, audio editor and media transcoder.
Editor's Note:
Liquid letters in after effects uses the same techniques as any other liquid effects in after effects. The liquid effect does not require any plugins, therefore you can easily follow this liquid effect tutorial without any issues. Liquid after effects techniques all revolve around the same effect, roughen edges. Roughen edges gives after effects liquid properties, but is not a true liquid solution. However, it works beautifully for liquid letters tutorials, but really any liquid tutorial involving after effects. I hope you enjoyed this after effects liquid text video!

Nice tut :) If you want the word "H" clear without effect, don't apply roughen edges on the precomp and don't create precomp. Simply add adjustment layer over all shapes layers and apply roughen edges on it. Text layer move over the adjustment and you are done
Hey Mike,
I don't know if anyone has commented this yet, but to get the letter to look sharp after the drips I just ramped the border in "roughen edges" down to zero starting a few frames after the drips ended.
Thanks! Exactly what I needed! Clear, concise, and easy to follow. I'll tag this video when I upload my finished product.
Loved the tutorial! It helped me a lot for my college project!
straight to the point, love you tutorials, thanks for share!!!
Hey, amazing tutorial thanks. I just finished it, and I noticed that you can simply animate Roughen Edges border from, whatever number you got, to 0, and the letter will look sharp and clear :3. Thanks again.
i actually really love how it looks!
THANK YOU!! that was so helpful!
beautiful, just what I needed. Thank you!
Nice dude! i just learnt how to do 2d intros so that will be helpful :)!!
Love your tutorials, I subbed also :) and left a like
Great tutorial, thanks!
Perfect tutorial
Great, Man!!!!!! on such invisible place so light idea.....!!!!!))))))) just great
that's what i've been waiting for
Nice tutorial, a 'tip' maybe for the H: you could just cut the H out of your pre comp and paste it above the pre comp in your Tutorial 20 comp. Maybe add the roughen edges but put it a little lower. I think that might result in a bit of a smoother result?
8:12 if you turn "fractal influence" on the roughen edges effect down to 0, that might help the H stay sharp.
yeah, your BG is legit!
Perfect! Liked - Subscribed - In awe! :P
Great tutorial.
I appreciate this so much
Thank you so much! You're so cool!
hey nice tuto...this will be very helpful for my assignment ..again nice and keep upload this kind of trick ...now i m ur permanent subscriber.....
Could you do a tutorial for animated camo background like complex news
You're great, mate!
nice, thanks!
Amazing
It's really good and amazing this tutorial, just one question, why you don't remove the H from the precompose and then put the H and the surface in the timeline or no???
Great help for me. Plus I learned more about AfterEffects! :-)
Cool video the problem you are getting with the "fuzzy font" thats a syntax issue with how the font is when its used in AE I'm sure if you played around with different fonts or even vector png of a image of the "letter H" you will have more control over the "fuzzyness"
you're the best :D
Awesome ! But i wonder will it work if i convert an Image into an Object and try this ?
hey @MOBOX could you do a tutorial on melting text?
excelent
nice effect
Your Videos are Presents
nice background where did you find it I want ittt
the shape layer will attach to the solid layer and it will be weird if i change its shape, can you tell me how to get rid of this?
please help!!!! When ever I try to change the scale of the rectangles there position gets moved? I don't know if I missed a step?
duplicate the comp and turn off roughness edge effect use square mask on it as alpha matte and gradually increase it opasite to reveal the orginal h character
WOW
Nice
Great..
Can i just use a Logo instead of H?
Mike, can you write the name of the music, PLEASEEE
also, what's the name of the song? I clicked on the link but it just takes me to soundcloud, not the song.
How you getting new layers each time when a shape was drawn???
nice
what is name music ?

If it was a little slower than this, it would be better.

Логотип Navalny Live?
just fade out the roughen edges effect after
its not clear in the vid, when you scale the shapes u are using rectangle transform or the main transform scale, because the main doesnt seems to work, and its really frustrating after creating 70 shape layer
it works with the main transform, but shapelayers doesnt appears in the animation when I precompose
just dont include the H in the precomp
N i thought it was hard! Easy pesy
wer did u get da wallpaper?
+Ace Adolfo I made it. Would you like a download link? goo.gl/photos/t4ZWCoXyFxt9iT38A
+Mobox Motion Graphic Tutorials thank you so much! love ur videos!
I find it extremely unhelpful how you will sometimes select something or perform a keystroke without saying what it is, and it becomes impossible, even with pausing the video, to determine what you did, forcing me to Google it, which kinda defeats the purpose of watching a tutorial. Otherwise, great content.
Sorry about that. If you give me a time stamp I may be able to walk you through better.
It's okay, I figured it out. This was actually a very helpful tutorial, I was just stressed (as I tend to be when trying to figure out AE, lol), so I probably overreacted. I was confused about what Motion 2 is, since it doesn't appear to be a native plugin, and around 4:46 you automate keyframes but it's not clear what your keystroke was to do so.
No problem, I know the feeling
how did you figure it out, I'm stuck here too!
nice intro , i thought i entered the wrong site lmfao
what site did you think??
@@moboxgraphics heh..
h
That was very fast. Not very good for instruction.
I wonder if there's some way to pause the video and go back, so you can watch it at your own speed.

Thank you! Great tutorial!
