In this After Effects motion graphic tutorial we are going to be taking a look at how to make an Animated Background with the Time Displacement function coupled with the motion tile and mosaic effects in After Effects 2018. This is used to create a background video loop animation. The time displacement feature helps create a dynamic motion and an easy setup to test different shape morphs or movements.

Help, @MOBOX, you need to tell us a solution for "masks and effects ", we dont have source for Time displacement effect. I tried pre composing the grey layer, it doesn't work. Any other effect for the dynamic effect?? reply soon.

Btw, you can center up anchor point and center up in the composition using "Cntrl+Home" and "Alt+Cntrl+Home" hotkeys

When I use my time displacement adjustment layer, elements start to vanish after 8-9 seconds. I did EXACTLY the same but somehow I am unable to fix this problem. Someone able to help me?

That centering anchor point setting was an epic find, been using AE for a year now never knew about it!

Legit did everything the same as you with those dots, but they dissapear at the end with anything above 0 second displacement...

you can make shape layer composition smaller and it will work

if you used a transform effect (not scaling from timeline), time displacement would accept it.

0:26 How did you add the gradient to the dots?
Never mind, i got it. Just applied Gradient Ramp to the shape layer
I added a new shape layer > Effect > Gradient Ramp
Then I placed it below the dot layer > Set an Alpha luminescence matte
I actually added a Gradient ramp on top of the dots pre-comp and it worked as well. Thanks btw 👌 really love this stuff

for what ever reason the time displacement is having no effect any suggestions?
Pre comp the solid gray layer, making sure u selected to move all stuff into the composition (second option). When u apply the time displacement on adjusment layer, choose this new composition where u used to choose the solid gray, adjust the fps on time displacement to whatever u selected on your composition (mine's 25)... And adjust the "max time of displacement", here 50 was ok. But u may prefer another value (maybe 30, 40, etc)

can't fix the mosaic into the shapes....:-(
at 6:30 you just need change the size of the shape from the content > Ellipse 1 > Ellipse Path 1 > Size
:) Changing that many key frames is too boring and too difficult
you could have used transform to scale, instead of precomping
I wanted to retain the ability to modify the shape and object animation, if that makes sense?

adjustment layer was just turned off (eye button) no biggies!
The walls that you run into with the visibility of the dots and the align tool are testament to how nonsensical and frustrating after effects can be. This program feels like juggling cold spaghetti :
